What Do You Mean I'm The Captain Of A Yandere Mercenary Company?-Chapter 512: Why They Need To Worry About Assassins
"I'll take you back to your place, Tera," Ragbar offered as we started to leave the club.
I waved at him, "Thanks but it's alright. It's already pretty late anyway and the lift isn't that far away from here."
"We insist, Tera. It's not that big of a deal for us, anyway," Valiea insisted.
Well… I guess it would be rude to keep rejecting their offer. And I don't really fancy walking around this part of the station at this late hour after all…
"Alright… Then allow me to impose on you."
"Like I said, it's no big deal. We're not strangers anymore are we?"
I simply gave her a wry smile without saying anything.
We left the club through the back entrance after the two of them put on their hooded cloaks to hide their identities.
"I just want to say though, Tera…" Ragbar whispered as we moved out of the alleyway and onto the main street. "If you ever want to stop being a Merc and just want to work a more stable job… You can always come to our place."
I didn't get to answer as Valiea scoffed beside him, "Please, husband. Let's face reality here… There's no way she's going to work under us even if she does decide something like that. She could just start her own bar in the upper rings of the station and make a killing there."
Ragbar chuckled, "True. Those people would literally be throwing money at you once they get a taste of the alcohol you're making."
Valiea let out a chuckle, "That's right. Funny story, Tera… We only managed to get this club of ours thanks to the stupidity and arrogance of those rich idiots in the upper rings. So if you want to get rich quick, just target them."
I raised an eyebrow at her, "How?"
"You could, for example, set up a small bar and then get a couple of rich idiots hooked on your drinks. Then reject any offer from them to work under them. Then act interested when they mention buying out your bar. After that is the most important part as you will come up with a contract where they will purchase the establishment for an exorbitant amount of Credits while putting in fine print that you will not be part of the deal. Then once they pay, you take the money and leave them with a shell of a business."
I gave her a pointed look, "And I'm guessing you guys did just that?"
"Yep!" Ragbar admitted proudly. "Went through five idiots and the money we got was enough for us to buy the entire building there and renovate it into the club you see today. To be fair though, we kept telling them we weren't interested and they could not take no as an answer."
"Aren't you worried that those rich guys might hire people to take revenge on you?"
"Oh we do. Those are some of the people that we have to avoid when we're out and about you see."
Oof… If you ask me, that trade off is definitely not worth it. I definitely wouldn't want to live a life like some kind of fugitive just for a little bit of--
BANG!
Ragbar's shield flared to life as the bullet made contact with it, saving him from getting shot through the head.
Ragbar reacted immediately as he pulled out his pistol from a holster underneath his cloak and pointed at his attacker, a middle aged man wearing a pair of sunglasses and a casual suit with a pistol in his hand.
Ragbar shot at him without hesitation but the guy also had a shield that deflected the bullet away harmlessly.
There were a few screams and shouts of alarm coming from the people around us and I realised that the people here must not be used to sudden fire fights like the people in the lower rings were.
The assassin fired a few more shots at Ragbar but his shield held strong as he returned fire, only for the assassin's shield to block his shots as well.
Just as I was thinking about joining in the fight as well, a van pulled up and several similarly dressed men stepped out, all of them armed with rifles instead of just pistols.
Unfortunately for us, it seems like they were with that assassin as well.
"Tera, this way!" Valiea shouted, grabbing my wrist and pulling me towards the alley beside us.
Ragbar also retreated, firing a few shots at the group before running into the alley before the bullets whizzed past the space he had just been in.
"I'm guessing those aren't fans of yours?" I asked as we ran.
Ragbar reloaded his pistol and rolled his eyes at me, "Oh geez, I wonder what gave that away, Tera? Was it the sunglasses?"
"Are we just going to run back to your car?"
Valiea shook her head, "I don't think they will let us go that easily… And I don't fancy leading them to our house either so we'll have to take care of them."
"There's like… Eight of them though. And we don't know if more are coming either."
Ragbar grinned at me, "Don't worry, we've had this happen to us before. We can handle it. Though I suppose I have to apologise for dragging you into this since they already saw us interacting with you, they would definitely try to get you as well even if we were to run from them."
I reached behind my back and pulled out my shotgun, "Hey… Did you actually forget what my main line of work is again?"
The two of them skidded to a stop and Ragbar actually facepalmed.
"I won't lie… Yeah, I did…"
Valiea chuckled, "To be honest, so did I. I hope we're not troubling you too much by asking if we can count on you for help in this?"
I slid in a few shotgun shells into my shotgun and nodded at them, "This isn't my first time dealing with some thugs, don't worry about it."
We spun around as the footsteps of those assassins running after us neared the corner.
All three of us dove behind cover and I took position behind a stack of boxes at the corner with my shotgun pointed at the place where those assassins would appear from.
I flipped the safety off and as soon as I saw a figure appear around the corner, I lifted my gun to aim at their head and pulled the trigger.
The shield buster round I loaded in immediately shattered their shield and the assassin looked at me in surprise.
Most likely he was not expecting his shield to break so easily which was also probably why all of them were walking so confidently here.
He tried to step back around the corner to hide but I was faster in squeezing the trigger again, firing the buckshot round that splattered his brain all over the other wall.
I expected the people following behind him would be stunned by the sight so I quickly stepped out from around the corner and fired twice without hesitation.
An assassin was unfortunate enough to be standing at where I was firing my shotgun, resulting in his chest being blasted open right after his shield broke.
To their credit, the other assassins recovered quickly and raised their weapons to point in my direction.
Too bad for them, I had already ducked around the corner just in time to avoid the hail of bullets fired at me.
I ducked back behind the boxes and the assassins rushed after me while I was loading another four more shells into my shotgun.
A pair of them came running around the corner with rifles and both Ragbar and Valiea opened fire on them.
I got to see Valiea holding a pistol in each of her four hands shooting at our assailants, two of them being ballistic pistols while the other two being energy pistols.
The assassins also tried to shoot back at them with one running forward to look for cover.
Unfortunately for him, he had decided that the corner right in front of me was the best cover he could get and he only realised I was behind him when he ejected the magazine of his rifle to reload.
"Hi," I greeted him, before shooting him twice with my shotgun.
His corpse flew back to crash against the wall before it slid down to roll over onto the ground, a pool of blood already forming underneath him.
Peeking out, I saw the rest of the assassins were now at the corner of the alley firing at the couple in an attempt to kill them.
The fact that there was one new corpse on the ground meant that Valiea and Ragbar managed to kill that one with their combined firepower.
At this stage, we've already eliminated half of their number so I was quite confident that we could finish them off easily. freewёbnoνel.com
But just as that thought crossed my mind, there was another van that screeched to a stop on the other entrance of the alley and even more armed assassins jumped out.
Fuck, we're surrounded…
