Fuck, looks like I was right again in being worried about this guys not being the entire group…

I didn't have time to count the people at the back but I do know that there's four people in front of us right now.

If nothing is done, we're going to get pincered and most likely wiped…

What to do… What to do…

Do I have time to call for help? No… I doubt the girls could rush here in time even if I called now… And I don't think the police would be here to save us either…

Maybe if I shouted, other people might come save us?

Nah, they would definitely end up as collateral damage here instead…

Fuck it, I guess I'm balling.

"Ragbar, Valiea! Can you two deal with the ones behind? Just stall them!"

They turned to give me a worrying look.

"What are you planning to do?" Valiea asked.

"Just trust me!"

"Whatever it is, I hope it gets us out of this!" Ragbar grumbled, though he had already turned around to start shooting at the assassins behind without question.

Seeing that they were dealing with the ones behind, I reached forward and picked up the dead assassin that I shot earlier and flung him over my shoulder.

With him in place, I rushed out from my cover and sprinted towards the remaining assassins.

Two of them reacted immediately as they turned their guns towards me and fired several shots in my direction.

I felt the impact of their bullets on the human shield I was carrying which saved me from relying on my personal shield to block their attacks instead.

Once I was close enough, I threw the corpse towards one of the assassins who was not expecting it, watching with great satisfaction as the corpse crashed into him and sent both of them tumbling to the ground.

I then charged at the assassin next to the guy I just tossed the corpse at.

I was hoping that he would be distracted by the corpse I threw. But unfortunately, he completely ignored the corpse entirely and tried to continue shooting at me.

My shield flared as it protected me from the ballistic bullets fired at me while I lunged towards the guy, knocking his rifle to the side while shoving my shotgun against his gut.

His eyes widened as he realised what I was trying to do and tried to back away from me.

Too bad for him but I was faster as I squeezed the trigger to fire off a round into his gut.

I was prepared to fire a second time since the one I just fired was a shield buster round and not a buckshot round as, ironically, I have not tried to see what happens when a shield buster round was shot at something aside from a shield.

But it turns out I didn't need to as the shield buster round functioned like an energy buckshot projectile as it punched through his skin and left several sizable holes in his gut.

Unlike the actual buckshot round or the slug round however, it didn't completely pierce through his body and merely burned up to his intestines.

He wasn't actually dead yet but I chose not to finish him off as I grabbed him by the collar to start pushing him towards the last two assassins, using him as my new meat shield.

I had to pass by the guy who got knocked down by the corpse I threw earlier on the way there, the guy still trying to push the corpse off of him.

He looked up just as I lowered my shotgun to point the barrel directly in his face at a distance where his shield would be useless.

"Wait--"

I pulled the trigger even before he could finish his words, blasting his head into bits.

At the same time, I felt impact coming from the front and I realised that the two remaining assassins had actually chosen to fire at their comrade I was using as a shield without mercy, not even caring that he was still alive.

The fact that his shield was already broken at this point showed that they had already started shooting in my direction even while I had just started to push him there.

Do they hate this guy or something?

Nevertheless, I continued pushing forward while using the now dead guy as my shield.

The two remaining assassins obviously already saw what I did with the first corpse earlier and weren't too keen on being on the receiving end of another corpse toss so they both tried to flank me at the same time.

That was something I had expected as well so I quickly shoved the corpse to my left, aiming it at the assassin who was trying to flank me from that direction while lifting my shotgun to shoot at the guy on the other side.

His shield quickly shattered under the blast of my shield buster round, leaving him completely defenseless against the buckshot round that I fired immediately after that.

The assassin got blasted back into the wall with parts of his face blown away by the blast, his corpse sliding down from the wall before falling heavily onto the ground.

Just as I turned towards the last remaining assassin, I found him charging towards me with a knife in his left hand poised to stab at me.

It seemed like he had managed to redirect the body I threw at him away even though it caused him to drop his gun in the process. But instead of retrieving it, he opted to charge at me with a knife instead.

I couldn't swing my gun back in time so I had to take a step back to avoid the stab, prompting him to chase after me to attempt a slash at my throat.

I managed to lean back to avoid it but his other hand quickly shot out to shove my shotgun away to prevent me from pointing the gun at him.

He then rammed his shoulder into my chest, knocking me a few steps back.

I looked up just as he lunged, his knife thrusting towards my face.

I reacted by holding my shotgun with both hands to raise it up, using the gun to parry his blow away.

Pain then erupted from my abdomen which knocked me back a step, the assassin quickly lowering the foot he kicked me with to lunge at me again.

This time, I chose to sidestep him before delivering an elbow strike into his chest to knock him off balance.

I then quickly grabbed him by the shoulder to pull him back before shoving my shotgun under his chin.

He only had a moment to let out a croak of panic before I pulled the trigger, shooting the shotgun round directly into his head and killing him instantly.

Thankfully, the one that fired was a shield buster round and not a buckshot round or else his head would have literally exploded and I would be drenched in blood and brain matter right now.

I shoved off the corpse and turned my attention to the other side of the alley now that this side was taken care of.

I did a quick headcount and it looks like there were six more assassins still there with two corpses left on the floor.

Seems like the couple there were holding on just fine even if they were currently pinned down at the moment.

I moved to pick up one of the dropped rifles in my other hand and started shooting in the assassins' direction, the hail of bullets forcing them to take cover and allowing me to reach my original cover without getting shot at.

I quickly slid behind it and started reloading my gun, my mind already coming up with a plan on how I should attack the assassins.

Right as I popped out from there to fire at the assassin that should have been hiding behind a wall, I realised that all of them were running back towards the van in full retreat.

Eh?

Waait, they're seriously just running away?! You guys still outnumber us two to one you know?! And then you're running?!

I switched to the rifle I picked up again and started shooting after them to try and stop them, but they completely ignored me and let their shields tank my shots while they climbed back into the van they had left there.

I emptied my clip at the van but they managed to speed off before I could kill any of them.

Tch… Bloody cowards… So they realised that their ambush had failed and just ran away instead of trying to fight to the end huh?

Well that was disappointing…

No wait… I should just be happy that no one on our side was actually hurt.

Yeah, Valiea and Ragbar seemed a little shaken by the ambush but they were both fine.

Well… Now that the assassins are gone, I guess there's only one thing for me to do…

Time to loot!
