World's No. 1 Swordsman-Chapter 559: The Second Sword Spirit!
Inside the Shadowless Shuttle, Wang Sheng stared in surprise at the brand-new flying sword in his hand.
The materials he used weren't that rare. The core was made of Celestial Silverfall Iron, which was known for being extremely durable. Filling it with immortal power also made it really flexible, which was why it was a popular choice for making high-quality flying swords.
He also mixed in two taels of Frost Dust and three taels of Fuling Spirit Soil. He added half a jin[1] of Blue Moon Gold and small amounts of other supporting materials, too.
He strictly followed the recipe that the Wenqu Star had left behind.
Whenever Wang Sheng worked steadily and avoided wasting the spiritual nature of the materials, his new sword would usually be a grade higher than Flying Haze. Moreover, its blade would normally be silver and white with moonlight moving across the surface.
The flying sword floating above his palm right now was different. Though still shaped like a normal sword, it looked made of pure energy. It was almost translucent.
Bits of moonlight that looked as soft as smooth hair flowed quietly within it, exuding a faint, cold, and divine aura.
Chaos Spiritual Dawnlight had caused all of it.
Terms like artifact and treasure had very broad meanings. In ancient times, people did not divide them into many specific grades. They were usually just called treasures.
Now, the endless space followed a complete grading system.
Most items made by people before becoming immortals were simply called artifacts and treasures, while those made by immortals were labeled immortal treasures and split into low, middle, and high grades. Flying Haze was a low-grade item, and the sword that Lishang had given to Wang Sheng was a high-grade immortal treasure.
Above high-grade immortal treasures were those with deep spiritual awareness. Known as spiritual treasures, they could move on their own based on their owner's intent, and they were split into two types.
The ones that cultivators had made were known as forged spiritual treasures. Those that the world had naturally created at the beginning of time were called natural spiritual treasures.
Natural spiritual treasures were thought to be much stronger, but powerful forged spiritual treasures didn't really fall short of the legendary natural ones. They had mostly become legends within the endless space, placing them above the ones made by people.
This had little to do with Wang Sheng. He didn't believe that he would ever find things like the Qingping Sword, the God-Slaughtering Sword, or the Four Immortal-Slaying Swords. Those were just strange myths to him.
His real plan was to properly take care of Spiritless, which was undoubtedly a high-grade immortal treasure. Since it had a sword spirit, it also counted as a spiritual treasure.
Wang Sheng examined his new flying sword.
"Not quite a spiritual treasure, but better than an immortal treasure... A semi-spiritual treasure?"
Frowning, Wang Sheng tried imbuing it with a strand of immortal power and sensed that the strand smoothly flowed through it. It felt as though it were part of him. He didn't even feel it moving and pulling his power out of his body.
"You certainly have a rare forging method," Lishang said softly from the side. Her eyes were fixed on the new sword in his hand. "No furnace, no true fire. You relied only on your immortal power to fully melt the materials and then mold them into a sword."
Wang Sheng smiled. "This is only a sword embryo; I still have to nurture it with my Dao Body and Primordial Spirit before it can unleash its full power. What do you think of it, Vice Sect Master?"
Lishang took the weapon and held it up with her immortal power. When she lightly touched its blade with her thin fingers, the sword resisted a little, as if it didn't want her to touch it.
Wang Sheng smiled with satisfaction. The sword's spiritual nature was undeniably extremely strong. Finding Chaos Spiritual Dawnlight almost too powerful, he concluded that it would be best to save a good amount of it for Yaoyun.
He could now control six swords at once with the Sword-Controlling Art. Hence, he planned to later use the same materials to make four more identical flying swords and then reforge Flying Haze with a strand of Dawnlight.
Reconsidering his options, Wang Sheng looked at the greatsword and armor that the Eastern Kang Star Deity had left behind. They were currently the best treasures in his arsenal. Imbuing them with a small amount of Dawnlight should also improve them.
After a brief hesitation, he remembered that he planned to only use his Dawnlight once his cultivation had deepened further. He only wanted to imbue some of it into Spiritless because the sword was bound to his life. On the other hand, though, upgrading his greatsword and armor would immediately strengthen him.
The road ahead was long, and the threat of the Celestial Wind Sect had never gone away.
Fine! Let's do it!
While Lishang was still looking at the new flying sword, Wang Sheng took out his greatsword and laid it flat across his knees.
He rubbed his palm across its blade. If this offends you, Star Deity, please forgive me.
Several strands of colorful light flowed from his fingertips into the back of the greatsword. Right after, the broad weapon shone even brighter than it ever had and showed a faint sign of wanting more.
Wang Sheng looked at the Dawnlight inside him. After he had taken it from the Sea of Chaos, it had become over ten jin heavier. Since he hadn't even used a tael of it yet, he pulled out over a tael of strands and transferred them into the greatsword.
At that moment, they heard loud metallic rings, then waves of draconic roars.
The Shadowless Shuttle, which had been moving through space, fired huge amounts of bright light in every direction. Within them, a green dragon flashed past at extreme speed.
The commotion surprised even Wang Sheng.
The shuttle promptly accelerated. It quickly left the area and covered a large distance. Only then did Wang Sheng finally relax. A moment later, he broke into a wide smile.
Lishang stared at him in surprise.
The greatsword had changed immensely. It was still broad, but its edges now glowed with a cold and unsettling sharpness. Green dragon scales had also appeared all over its blade, making it look like the claw of a green dragon. Moreover, it had gained a softly glowing carving of a dragon head at the end of its hilt.
The greatsword's quality had moved up another grade.
From within the head flew out an azure dragon the size of a hand. Though small, it carried itself with immense pride, as though it looked down on the world. It had the same appearance as Long Aotian's azure dragon form, but its divine aura was easily a hundred times purer and stronger.
The small dragon circled in front of Wang Sheng. It then curled and lowered its head. In a deep and steady tone, it greeted, "Thank you for granting my wish, Lord Sword Master! From this day on, I will serve as your arm and follow your command!"
Wang Sheng smiled faintly, but he felt slightly awkward. After all, the greatsword had inherited the Thirty-Six Dragon-Slaying Slashes, yet it had given birth to a dragon-shaped sword spirit.
Nevertheless, he naturally had no intention of refusing a blessing that had been delivered right to his doorstep. "No need to be so polite. May my Dao of the Sword be worthy of you."
The small dragon roared several times and briefly circled Wang Sheng. It then requested, "Please grant me a name, Lord Sword Master."
"How did Senior Li address you in the past?"
"Frankly speaking, our previous master had simply taken the armor and me from the storage room. Since he was busy fighting nonstop, he never got to give us names. I simply assumed this form because my main material is the scales of the divine beast Azure Dragon. That's also why I have a trace of its aura."
Wang Sheng nodded. "Considering you exude the Azure Dragon's aura, and you've already grown dragon scales on your blade, you shall from this day forth be called... Do you have any suggestions?"
Finally failing to hold back her laughter, Lishang softly snorted. However, while silently watching the two, she wore her usual cold expression again.
Wang Sheng laughed. "I'm just kidding. From now on, you shall be known as Dragon Sword. It's simple and easy to say. It's only a name, anyway."
"Thank you, Lord Sword Master."
The small dragon circled him a few more times before returning to the dragon head at the hilt.
Staring at the greatsword for a while, Wang Sheng held it and brushed his fingers over the scales. He also started telepathically communicating with Dragon Sword to get to know each other.
When facing powerful opponents in the future, its sword spirit could augment his strength for as long as he had the greatsword on his back. Although it wasn't as powerful or could perfectly become one with him like Spiritless, it could still slightly increase his power and save his life in a moment of danger.
The small dragon also reminded him that the armor was its equal. If it were given a bit of Dawnlight, there was a strong chance that it could also create a spirit and turn into an extremely powerful defensive treasure.
Are they forming a group just to trick me out of my Dawnlight now?
Putting away the Dragon Sword, Wang Sheng sighed quietly. He had not expected to personally help create a sword spirit at that moment.
In high spirits, he smiled and reached out his hand to the side. Lishang returned the newly made flying sword to him.
Not bothering to hide anything from her, he placed his hands against the handle and the tip, then slowly brought them together. It shone brightly as it completed its first transformation into a sword core.
After giving it some thought, he sent it into a main acupoint in his left shoulder to be nurtured.
Lishang looked at Wang Sheng with clear surprise. "That seems to be a very profound method of caring for treasures."
Wang Sheng smiled. "What makes you think so?"
"I just feel that there are too many mysteries about you. You were only an Ascended Immortal when you got trapped in the blood mine, yet you were already a Primordial Immortal when you escaped. Not long after, you reached the True Immortal Realm. While your cultivation speed isn't unheard of, it is truly astonishing given the circumstances.
"Moreover, you're skilled in both the Heavenly Dao of the Sword and the Human Dao of the Sword. You have achieved a lot in each, which is unlike any normal sword cultivator. And now, you've just refined treasures to a new grade and even given them their own spirits." Lishang looked at him sharply, as though trying to look into his past. After a while, she whispered, "I find myself even starting to believe some of the rumors."
Wang Sheng raised an eyebrow slightly. "Oh? What rumors?"
"That you are the disciple of some very powerful immortal and that you have a terrifying force backing you."
Feeling somewhat helpless, Wang Sheng shook his head. "Those are really just rumors."
He had suffered so much over the past hundreds of years. If there truly were some powerful person or force backing him, his enemies would have been destroyed long ago.
It was somewhat close to the truth, though. Everything that he had learned came from extremely powerful ancient figures, but they could not protect him here.
"I merely had some fortunate encounters." Wang Sheng sighed and looked at the view beyond the window. Sounding a little empty, he added, "I have to protect quite a lot of people, and I can only do that with my sword and Dao."
"You seem to have a lot on your shoulders." Lishang frowned slightly. She whispered, "If you really see me as a friend from the same sect, then tell me about them. I can swear to keep it a secret."
Wang Sheng shook his head and pulled out the armor. He began slowly imbuing it with Dawnlight.
Lishang's expression darkened slightly. "You told me we were friends before, yet you still treat me this way. Are you messing with me?"
Wang Sheng smiled. "Vice Sect Master, you should also understand that if the public learned of my ability to improve treasures, I would likely become a slave to the big groups of this region. Even so, I'm willingly doing it right in front of you. How is that not treating you as a friend? How is that a lack of trust?"
Lishang's expression somewhat softened. Still, she answered seriously, "I swear upon my own Dao that I will never tell anyone about this."
Wang Sheng was rendered momentarily speechless. "Vice Sect Master... you didn't have many friends before, did you?"
"What does that have to do with any of this?"
"Nothing, I was just curious. Anyway, men and women are a bit different. My master often taught me that men should carry more responsibility. Dealing with more pressure is nothing, and complaining less is better than trying harder."
At that moment, his armor also glowed brightly.
This time, however, Wang Sheng was meant to be disappointed. Although the armor's quality increased and its spiritual nature became stronger, it did not create a spirit.
He put away the armor. Just as he took out another set of materials to make a second flying sword, he noticed Lishang thinking deeply beside him. "Right, I haven't named my new flying sword yet. Why don't you give it one, Vice Sect Master?"
"How about Flying Cloud?"
"That actually sounds nice."
It could be the perfect pair with Flying Haze.
