Abandoned by the Alpha, I Became the Lycan King's Mate-Chapter 357 Abnormal
[Margaret’s Perspective]
The concern on the young man’s face was somewhat touching, and I glanced at him, responding with a slight smile, "Of course, I’m thinking of my sister. We haven’t seen each other for a long time."
As I spoke, I sighed, feeling somewhat listless, and added, "I really wish I could see her now. She makes several kinds of snacks, all of which are very good."
Lisa was still too young, and the mention of delicious treats made her mouth water involuntarily. She licked her lips, took my hand, and asked eagerly, "So when can you meet her? I want to try her snacks too, can I, Angel Margaret!"
At her words, I smiled helplessly and looked down at Lisa as I replied, "So I become an angel just by mentioning food? You really are charmingly blunt." 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖
Lisa was tickled by my teasing, her eyes curved into crescents, and she looked like a little sweet fruit!
Maybe it was because of the pregnancy, but I really enjoyed talking and playing with children now. Their simple and pure happiness was quite contagious.
But happy times are always brief. After dining together, night had fallen, and I knew they had to leave for home.
"Alright, that’s enough fun for today, you need to behave on the way home with big brother, okay? We’ll see each other tomorrow," I said, petting Lisa’s cheek and looking at Brand with a gentle voice.
The person responsible for transporting Brand and his siblings was Lcyan Louis. He was always meticulous, indeed better suited for the task than Elliot.
Louis stretched out his hand to open the car door and stood up straight, bowing slightly to me.
I nodded at him, and said softly, "Be careful on the way, and make sure to hand them over to the butler."
"Yes, Your Highness the Lycan Queen," Louis responded, indicating he understood, and he closed the car door for Brand after Brand got in.
Brand rolled down the window and looked at me as if he had something to say. I turned to look at him and asked with my eyes, What’s the matter?
He pressed his lips together and shook his head, not saying much else.
I didn’t pay much attention to this interlude and waved goodbye to the siblings, signaling Louis that it was time to leave.
It wasn’t until a half hour later, when the news of their being attacked came from an accompanying bodyguard, that I suddenly realized Brand’s earlier peculiarity.
"Where’s Donald? Is there no one left in the manor now?" I asked while pulling on a soft, long coat, questioning Ruth.
Ruth, crouching to help me with my shoes, responded, "Yes, Your Highness. His Majesty and the others left 10 minutes ago. Since you were resting at the time, His Majesty did not wish to disturb you."
Listenting, I nodded, remembering Donald had indeed mentioned this to me during the day, "Alright, I know. Call Christian immediately and tell him to inform Donald that I must go and see the place where Louis and the others were attacked!"
I paused, then turned to look at Ruth and continued, "Eric is still recovering from his injuries in the manor, isn’t he? Go tell him..."
Sensing that I had stopped mid-sentence, Ruth looked at me with a puzzled face and asked, "What is it that you want to say to Lord Eric, Your Highness?"
I took a deep breath, suppressing the unease and anxiety within me and said calmly, "Never mind, perhaps I’m just overthinking. Just do as I’ve instructed for now!"
With that, I walked out of the room. Outside, several members of the personal guard force were standing duty, with the tall and muscular Mark at the forefront. He and Louis were mainly responsible for my security.
"Are you all ready?" I asked without turning back, not halting my steps.
Mark followed behind me and responded solemnly, "The stretch of road where Louis and the others lost contact isn’t far from the manor, it’s only a 15-minute drive away."
After hearing this, I frowned slightly and, wrapping my coat around myself, continued, "Then why did it take half an hour before we received the news? Was there deliberate interference?"
"The satellite signal in that area was suddenly cut off, and the cameras stopped working, too. If it weren’t for the alertness of the patrolling team, it might have been another half hour before anyone discovered the night attack! His Majesty and the others are on a mission tonight, all personnel are outbound. I have a bad feeling about this," Mark said with an uneasy look toward me.
He thought for two seconds before speaking, "I disagree with Your Highness going out at this time. It might well be a trap set by the enemy to lure us out. For your safety, I recommend that I lead the team to check it out while you stay at the manor."
Of course, Mark’s concerns had crossed my mind, and I stayed silent for a while before raising my eyes to the inky night sky and speaking firmly, "I’ll go with you. There’s no one else of significance in the manor tonight besides me. How do you know the enemy isn’t using a diversionary tactic? Gather all the other members of the personal guard force. Let’s go."
Seeing my firm stance, Mark no longer argued. As I got into the back seat of the car, he bent over to hand me a black box, saying respectfully, "Just in case, it’s best for you to hold onto this box. It contains items prepared for you by His Majesty."
I glanced at Mark, took the box, and said softly, "Let’s go, quickly and decisively."
