Abyss System The Rise of the Lord-Chapter 80 level up path
The sun was already setting, but Zaber had long since fallen asleep inside the tent, lying in complete silence as if entirely cut off from the outside world.
Outside, Gobuto and Kargal were eating by the fire. The flames flickered gently, illuminating their faces one moment and casting them into shadow the next.
Kargal had nearly finished half his bowl when he suddenly stopped. His gaze was fixed on the bowl, but his thoughts were far away.
This food... I can sense the master’s blood in it. Why?
He slowly raised his head and turned to Gobuto.
"Do you feel anything strange in the food?" he asked in a low voice.
Gobuto shrugged.
"Nah. It’s just regular food," he replied carelessly.
Kargal fell silent. A thought was slowly taking shape inside him.
My rebirth was caused by the master’s blood. Perhaps that’s why I can sense it...
He said nothing more and continued eating.
At that moment, Luna was leaning against a tree among the branches, gazing silently at Ruya and Siamond in the sky. Deep thoughts filled her eyes, unanswered questions weighing on her heart.
I’ve seen so many who were bought for their bodies... yet I was bought to carry burdens. Why did they buy me, of all people? Will I ever find out...
With these thoughts, she slowly stood and headed back toward the tent.
When she returned, Kargal had already emptied two bowls and was now ladling more for himself.
He whispered:
"There is a gift from the master in this food."
Luna looked at him in surprise.
"What kind of gift are you talking about?"
Kargal lowered his head.
"It’s enough for you to know that it is a gift. It will lead you onto the path of levels."
Luna asked curiously:
"Did he add something?"
Kargal did not answer, only gave a slow nod. Luna asked no more questions and began eating without further curiosity.
As Kargal watched her, he thought to himself:
I cannot tell her it is the master’s blood. Whoever sees weakness, whoever sees something valuable, will lose their mind and try to take it. If I say I am the master’s son, that would be wrong. And I cannot reveal his secrets. Not even to the other servants...
With these thoughts, he tossed another piece of wood into the fire, keeping the flames steady.
After a while, Luna and Gobuto finished eating and went to sleep. But sleep did not come to Kargal.
The darkness was slowly drawing back its curtain, making way for light. The sun had not yet risen, but the sky was already whitening—dawn was about half an hour away, and the air was fresh and cold.
Kargal gazed at the sky in thought.
At that moment, a quiet but clear voice came from behind:
"Very beautiful. Even without stars, isn’t it?"
Kargal startled and turned around.
Zaber was standing there.
The moment he saw him, Kargal’s shoulders relaxed, and his heart eased.
"You’re awake, master?" he said softly.
Zaber came and sat beside him.
"Yes. Do you like the sky too?"
Kargal hesitated slightly before replying:
"I don’t know... but I don’t get bored looking at it."
Zaber took a deep breath and looked upward.
"Do you know the difference between not getting bored and love?"
Kargal looked at Zaber.
"I don’t know."
Zaber glanced at him from the corner of his eye and said:
"Not getting bored is finding a place where your heart is at peace.
Love... is an illogical illusion."
Kargal’s eyes dropped to the ground.
"Master... last night you dripped your blood into the food. Was that because you care about us?"
Zaber’s eyes widened for a moment. Then he returned to his usual cold, calm state.
"If I say I care — that would be wrong.
If I say I don’t care — that would be a lie."
The breath of dawn enveloped them. The fire was slowly dying down, and the sky was preparing to greet the new day.
Zaber stood up and turned to Kargal. His gaze was calm, yet carried the unmistakable tone of command.
"I am leaving. I leave Azuris in your care. He is very talented. Do not let Gobuto or Luna raise him. Gobuto is driven by lust, Luna is still a young girl. You are the experienced one."
Hearing these words, Kargal’s face lit up. He immediately stood, planting his long staff firmly into the ground. Confidence and loyalty radiated from his body.
"I will raise Azuris into a servant worthy of you," he said with determination.
Zaber extended his right hand and lightly stroked the top of Kargal’s head. It was not affection, but acknowledgment. Then he headed toward the beehive. Picking it up, he walked away from the tent without looking back.
Kargal, now filled with energy, thought to himself:
In the future... could he evolve into a Bone King? In history there was one such being... called truly invincible...
With these thoughts, Zaber distanced himself slightly from the other servants.
Behind him, Kargal looked at Azuris with passion. His voice came out in a whisper:
"My little brother... I know you too have consumed the master’s blood. Otherwise you could not have reached this level so quickly."
Gobuto and Luna had already begun muttering in their sleep.
Kargal approached Gobuto, who was lying on the ground. Gobuto’s green skin had slightly reddened, his eyes were closed, his lips twitched faintly. His body trembled, his breathing uneven.
At that moment, Kargal’s eyes flashed red. His heat-vision ability activated.
He examined Gobuto closely, then turned his gaze to Luna.
Both of their bodies were three times hotter than usual... Is this because they received the master’s blood?
Kargal’s gaze cooled.
But I will not accept them as brother or sister. Only Azuris.
Meanwhile, Zaber continued walking along the path, sword fastened at his waist. He wore a long black cloak with nothing underneath—only cloth tied around his waist, the sword hanging from it. In his hand was the beehive, and beside him two pouches filled with gold.
He headed toward the village whose inhabitants he had sacrificed without hesitation.
After walking for some time, he emerged from the forest. Ahead lay open plains, with tall grass brushing against his knees.
At that very moment, in that same village, Shoyu and Kilyan were waiting for Zaber.
Shoyu sat inside one of the village houses and turned to Kilyan.
"Why is there no one in this village? It’s close to the city."
Kilyan’s face carried a mixture of doubt and seriousness.
"Three weeks ago, the entire population of this village was mysteriously killed. No wounds, no signs of battle, no damaged houses. They simply... died in silence."
Shoyu grew anxious.
"Who did this?"
Kilyan thought for a moment and said:
"From what I’ve heard, it remains unknown. The incident spread quickly in the city. People think demons did it. The victims’ faces were frozen in terror."
Shoyu swallowed.
"We probably shouldn’t stay long in this village... If that person arrives quickly, we’ll leave."
Kilyan replied in a low voice:
"Don’t worry, my lady. We have five guards. They are not weak."
Shoyu answered irritably:
"Not weak? They couldn’t even turn one seal. Twenty were taken. I don’t trust them."
Kilyan opened his mouth but said nothing. Then he closed it again.
In this way, nearly a full day passed before Zaber arrived at the village. Sword and beehive in hand, he looked at the village.
This is the place where I lost... and where I found. I don’t like this place.
With that thought, he entered the village.
After walking a short distance, he shouted loudly:
"Kilyaaaaannn!"
Hearing this voice, Kilyan and Shoyu immediately stepped outside.
Shoyu stepped forward and saw Zaber. Kilyan followed and immediately assumed a combat stance.
Shoyu turned to Kilyan.
"Why are you standing like that?"
Kilyan hesitated before replying:
"He had no sword... but now he does. Even though we didn’t see it, he is approaching us with his sword drawn."
Zaber walked slowly toward Shoyu.
"Tell me about the job," he said in a cold voice.
Shoyu became serious.
"Right away? Won’t you rest a little?"
Zaber replied in an emotionless tone:
"I don’t need rest. As for the price... I am already walking. Two hundred fifty gold. It may change depending on the distance."
Shoyu grew irritated.
"Two hundred fifty gold?! Are you joking? An ordinary adventurer earns that in twenty-five years! And you ask for it for one job!"
Zaber turned to leave.
"I stated my price. If you don’t like it, find someone else."
With those words, he began walking away.
Shoyu clenched her teeth.
I gave two hundred gold... and there are three more cities. That means seven hundred gold? This is ridiculously expensive... but he can do it. I’ll have to pay from my personal savings. More than half of it...
But to become queen... this is a big step.
She paused for a moment. Then she raised her voice:
"I agree! But payment only after the job is done!"
Zaber stopped. A faint, dark smile appeared on his lips.
"So simple..." he whispered.
Then he turned back.
Shoyu swallowed hard.
The price was high... but the reward would be greater.
Zaber approached once more.
"Very well," he said coldly.
"Tell me the details."
