Chapter 543: Chapter 214 The So-Called Competent Lover_2

But that was only as a last resort.

No one knew if her suicide would lead the God of Omniscience to deem her lacking potential, and thereby strip her of his blessing, robbing her of the ability to resurrect from death.

"The situation sounds quite tricky," Xi Mu chuckled lightly, his gaze falling on the Goddess of Plague, "What do you plan to do next?"

"I want to take the Pestilence Witch to the high heavens," the Goddess of Plague revealed her thoughts, "This way we could ensure the Pestilence Witch’s safety without disturbing your time with Letixia."

"A very sound choice," Xi Mu said as he lightly clapped his hands, then his gaze shifted to the Pestilence Witch, "It looks like we’re going to part ways."

Rationally considering it, taking the Pestilence Witch directly to the high heavens to be under the protection of All Gods was undoubtedly the correct course of action.

However, the Pestilence Witch shook her head and turned her face away, saying, "Sorry, I have no plans to go to the high heavens."

"Can you tell me why?" The Goddess of Plague revealed a puzzled look, while the Pestilence Witch twitched the corner of her mouth, her gaze involuntarily falling on Ahtal.

Now the Pestilence Witch considered the situation to be the Goddess of Plague being petulant, looking for an excuse to leave this world. If she actually agreed to go to the high heavens, later when Ahtal sweet-talked the Goddess of Plague into forgiving him, who knows if he might turn around and deal with her harshly, leaving her to bear the consequences alone.

So it was better to make it clear from the beginning that she was unwilling to go to the high heavens. After all, as long as the Goddess of Plague remained in this world, it was unlikely for Ahtal to truly let her be captured by the Avatar Witch.

If the Goddess of Plague stays, she would lose her reason to stay as well.

"How could a witch possibly choose to go to the high heavens?" the Pestilence Witch said matter-of-factly, "I don’t know of any good relationship between gods and witches."

The Goddess of Plague replied, "The gods in the high heavens currently bear no great hostility towards witches; on the contrary, you will receive ample protection."

Xi Mu agreed, "You’re right."

"But I hold hostility towards the gods," said the Pestilence Witch in a cold voice. She had no fond feelings for All Gods; after all, her previous death had been due to them, even though she had never actively harmed anyone.

Seeing her stance, the Goddess of Plague said nothing more, realizing that the Pestilence Witch had made up her mind and was not going to be easily persuaded.

"I’m going to get some sleep," said the Pestilence Witch as she transformed into a black wind, disappearing on the spot and drifting towards the second floor.

"She still harbors prejudice against All Gods," Xi Mu chuckled, earning an eye roll from the Goddess of Plague, who then picked up a long loaf of bread from the table and poked it towards Ahtal’s mouth, stuffing it in.

"Don’t waste your breakfast," the Goddess of Plague said with a hint of resignation, standing up and leaving the living room.

The Pestilence Witch’s motives weren’t hard to guess; it was simply the belief that as long as she stayed, she wouldn’t be in danger. Although Ahtal claimed not to be protecting the Pestilence Witch, he would likely protect himself, and the Goddess of Plague was obliged to protect the Pestilence Witch.

In the event of real danger, even if not for the Pestilence Witch’s safety, he would probably intervene for the sake of the Goddess of Plague.

So staying put was actually the safer option.

Xi Mu shook his head, finished the long loaf of bread, and then headed to the edge of the lake beside the manor, where the Avatar Witch, with a parasol resting on her shoulder, stood elegantly by the lake’s edge like a graceful lady.

"It’s quite rude to make a young lady speak up first," she suddenly said, as if certain there was someone beside her.

Xi Mu laughed, "Can you see me?"

Turning, the Avatar Witch saw no one, still unable to detect hidden presences.

But her demeanor remained calm and graceful.

"Maybe it’s a young girl’s intuition," she said with a seductive smile, lying through her teeth. In reality, she was basing her assumptions on logical deductions.

Having stood outside for so long, and with the Goddess of Plague’s conversation with the invisible presence over, it was highly probable that she was the next point of interest.

So she only had to wait a short while before speaking up.

"Is that so?" Xi Mu said, then brushed past the Avatar Witch, but the one left standing in place didn’t notice the anomaly, still trying to communicate with an invisible presence, seeking to glean some related information.

However.

"Avatar Witch, why are you talking to thin air?" The Goddess of Plague appeared out of nowhere and addressed the self-muttering Avatar Witch:

"He has long since left."

The atmosphere fell silent.

The Avatar Witch silently turned her head, met the perplexed gaze of the Goddess of Plague, and quietly lowered her umbrella to hide her expression.

That invisible man is truly vexing.

"Would you like to come in for a cup of tea?" The Goddess of Plague gestured toward the villa, wanting to have a chat with the Avatar Witch, but the latter had no interest in conversation anymore. After lightly stamping her foot, the umbrella resting on her shoulder rotated slightly, and her figure vanished on the spot.

...

...

In the afternoon.

Letixia propped herself up on the bed with one hand, the covers slid down her snow-white graceful body; she instinctively covered her chest with her hands and glanced around the room. There sat Ahtal, leaning against the bedpost, putting down his book.

"Are you feeling any discomfort?" Xi Mu asked, and upon hearing this, Letixia checked her physical state and discovered that she had no discomfort, seeming to have been healed by magic.

"Mmm, I’m fine," Letixia said as she pulled up the covers to her upper body, concealing it.

She leaned against the headboard, looking out at the dusky sky through the window.

"Before you killed me, I was thinking that if I had another chance, I would hope not to encounter you again, so that you would not become the King of Ash because of me. If we must meet, I would hope not to be the princess you’re protecting, but rather to become a... Knight who can stand with you against adversity."

Xi Mu chuckled, "To want to become a knight capable of facing adversity alongside me is no easy feat."

To qualify to stand beside him and face adversity would require at least the power of a witch, but Letixia lacked the aptitude to become a witch, and even reaching the pinnacle of humanity was nearly impossible for her.

It’s not that Letixia’s aptitude is poor; rather, she has the potential to grow into a strong knight.

But compared to witches, who may not appear even in hundreds of years, there’s no comparison. It’s almost certain Letixia’s growth will stop before she can reach the pinnacle of humanity.

This era is indeed teeming with witches and demons, but that’s only because the Time Witch has dragged heroes from the past into this era.

It has never been easy to become a witch or demon.

In this era, the only one with the aptitude to become a witch is Hecate. As for others, even having a primal soul doesn’t guarantee they could become a demon or witch; qualifications and rituals impose further constraints,

"Hmm." Letixia raised her hand to neaten the hair by her ear, showing a content smile towards Ahtal, "I am quite satisfied now."

This world does not grant success merely through effort; she had come to understand this at a very young age. Now, just being with Ahtal, she considered herself very fortunate. But this did not mean she would choose to give up. She would still choose to keep growing until she could grow no more.

Being satisfied doesn’t mean one has to settle, right?" Xi Mu said, and Letixia paused momentarily before softly saying:

"People must always continue to grow." Now her goal in growing was to stand by Ahtal’s side, to truly comprehend the person Ahtal is, to become his confidant; otherwise, she’d be quite incompetent as a lover,

Being unable to understand the person you love.

"If you want to grow." Xi Mu’s gaze settled on the Sword of Light placed at the head of the bed; he remembered that part of the DLC storyline provided by the system involved Letixia and the Sword of Light.
