Angle's Arrogance? My Pact with the Succubus Queen!-Chapter 242: 29th Star, Break the Hidden Enemies!
Darwin took the documents, his mechanical eye flashing the same red light as always. He immediately understood what Logan meant: "Philip... I get it. I’ll do everything I can to figure it out! Maybe... we can beat that old man again."
Natalia also nodded firmly, her eyes sharp. "Don’t worry, we’ll find a safe and workable way."
After everything was arranged, Logan didn’t wake up anyone else.
He took a simple bag, and went alone to the hidden space under Star Lake.
To keep things quiet, he released all his familiars around Star Lake to guard the area.
But when thousands of Legend-stage familiars appeared behind Saint Heart City, they scared all the monsters nearby away, completely changing the local ecosystem.
In the underground space of Star Lake.
Logan sat cross-legged in front of Yepera’s bones, his soul power wrapping around the runes on the bone’s surface.
A month after lighting the 28th star marks, he hadn’t broken through to Saint stage. He was looking for another way.
"The resonance point for the 29th star mark has been found." Kerparos’ voice echoed in his mind.
Logan adjusted his soul power, pulling on a newly decoded rune on the bones.
Golden light flowed into his body, and rule fragments automatically optimized the flow of energy.
Boom!
The 29th star mark lit up. The whole process took less than ten minutes.
Logan opened his eyes, feeling a huge increase in his power.
Lighting the 29th star didn’t make him break through to Saint stage. But this path worked.
Logan took out the Hero’s Badge, where Philip’s soul was sleeping inside.
He also took out a life energy crystal, thinking whether to speed up the revival of General Philip’s spirit.
But in the end, Logan didn’t start the process right away.
He was waiting—for the result of the Federation meeting.
Saint Heart City, Federation Parliament Building.
An emergency meeting was taking place.
People sitting on both sides of the long table were the highest-ranking representatives of the Federation.
Prime Minister Newson looked serious.
Judge Diablo, the second judge of the Judgement Tribunal, had a sharp gaze.
Representatives of the Military Committee, Camilla and Timo, looked solemn.
Senator Corleone and Holt, both old members of the Federation Council, sat side by side.
A hologram showed the footage of Logan studying the bones.
When the video ended, Newson spoke first. His voice was cold and unyielding: "Logan is researching the ability to control the dead and bring back spirits. This crosses the line of humanity."
Solon stood up and countered: "The technology left behind by Novan is a key weapon against the Lost World. Logan’s research is to strengthen the Federation’s fighting power—what’s wrong with that?"
Arthur nodded in agreement: "Our enemies don’t care about humanity. Any method that improves our strength should be tried."
Newson sneered: "If we ignore the rules, what’s the difference between the Federation and monsters? The peace of the dead is a line we can’t cross."
Old Corleone coughed and said: "Risk doesn’t mean we have to ban it. We can set strict rules to make sure the technology isn’t abused."
Newson immediately shot back: "Who will be in charge? Logan himself? Or you, the Senate? Bringing back the dead involves the soul world, which is the domain of gods. Humans crossing that line will only bring disaster."
Arthur shook his head. "Stupid gods have been beaten by Logan twice. What’s so holy about their power? Besides, the Lost World civilization has already mastered similar tech. If we don’t study it, and our enemies do, what will we use to fight them?"
That news made Newson pause for a moment.
Camilla broke the silence and suggested, "I suggest a compromise. Let Logan continue his research, but under Federation supervision. All results must be shared with all factions—no hiding anything."
Newson objected: "How do we supervise? What if the people we send get controlled by Logan? Then the supervision becomes a conspiracy. What then?"
Diablo suddenly spoke up: "Set up a joint supervision team. Members will come from the cabinet, the Military Committee, the Senate, and the Judgement Tribunal. Each group sends one representative. They all live at Star Lake together, check and balance each other, and make sure everything is fair."
Most people agreed with the idea.
Newson couldn’t find a good reason to argue.
The meeting passed the decision: form a joint supervision team to go to Star Lake and watch over Logan; also give him official research permission, as long as he doesn’t break the line of humanity, he can do limited experiments
After the meeting, everyone left.
Newson was the last one to leave the meeting room, his face dark.
Back in his office, he closed the door, pulled the curtains, and walked to the mirror.
The familiar face stared back at him.
But Newson knew, that was no longer himself.
He spoke, but his voice was not his own. It was [Novan]!
Then, a shadow flickered in Newson’s pupils. It was a fragment of Novan’s soul.
One month ago, during the Ancestral Spirits fusion event, Novan hadn’t died completely. Part of his soul had taken root inside Newson.
Now, he had completely taken control of the body.
The shadow in the mirror replied, "I’m here, Master."
Newson, or rather [Novan], coldly asked: "Did you hear the meeting result?"
The shadow in the mirror answered: "Yes, Master. Logan’s research must be stopped. Otherwise, he will find out the secret of the Shadow Seed."
Novan nodded. "I know. That’s why I acted early. The remaining members of The Night Watchman are ready?"
The shadow trembled. "Thirty Legend-level, five hundred Master-level. They’re ready to move anytime."
Novan laughed coldly. "Good. Tonight, we attack Star Lake. After the battle in Golden Sand City, Logan can’t be in good shape. We’ll give him a surprise while he’s weak."
"Yes, Master." The shadow disappeared.
Novan turned around, picked up the phone, dialed a number, and ordered, "Order all remaining members of The Night Watchman to gather. Target: Star Lake. Mission: Eliminate Logan, the Dean of Supervision. Operation time: Midnight tonight."
After hanging up, he walked to the window and looked at the busy Saint Heart City, his eyes cold.
"Logan, do you think you’ve won? No. The game has just begun. This time, let you know what real despair is." he muttered to himself.
Outside the window, dark clouds gathered. A storm was coming.
In the underground space of Star Lake.
Logan suddenly opened his eyes, sensing a cold and dark energy coming from the direction of Saint Heart City.
"Are they coming?" he muttered.
He tapped the ground lightly, once, twice, three times, as if counting.
Then he smiled. "Good. The 29th star mark just lit up. I was wondering where to test its power."
Outside the underground space, the lake water rippled, and moonlight passed through the surface, casting scattered shadows. Everything was calm.
But Logan knew, this calm wouldn’t last long.
He put away the Hero’s Badge and the life energy crystal, stood up, and walked toward the bones.
Logan ordered: "Kerparos."
"Yes, Master." Kerparos’ voice immediately replied.
Logan continued giving orders: "Activate all defense wards. Inform the Ashen Dragon Legion and the Black Ant Army. Prepare for battle."
"Yes, Master." Kerparos replied.
...
Late at night, outside Star Lake.
Thirty figures quietly approached. They were the remaining members of The Night Watchman.
The leader was a man with a black mask. His power was at Legend stage 5 star.
Behind him, twenty-nine companions who were familiar tamers. The weakest among them was at Master stage 3 star.
"Spread out and sneak in." the masked man whispered.
The thirty people quickly split into six groups and moved in different directions.
The lake was quiet. Only the sound of wind blowing across the water could be heard.
"This is too quiet." the masked man frowned, feeling something was wrong.
But the order had to be followed. He waved his hand, signaling the group to move forward.
Five minutes later, all six groups had reached their positions.
The masked man sighed in relief. "Looks like it was just a false alarm."
But at that moment, the lake exploded with a huge boom!
Thousands of dark figures burst out of the water—countless Ashen Dragons.
The Dragon Emperor and the Dragon Commander, both at the peak of Legend stage 5 star, led thousands of Legend stage dragons and tens of thousands of Master stage Ashen Dragons. Their power was overwhelming and suffocating.
"Surround them!" The Dragon Emperor gave the order.
The Ashen Dragon Legion quickly formed a formation and surrounded the thirty invaders.
At the same time, the ground trembled violently.
The Black Ant Army burst out of the ground, thick and dense. There were at least 100,000 of them.
Leading them were three giant Golden Ant Kings. Their power was at Legend stage 4 star.
The masked man’s face turned pale. "The intelligence was wrong! Logan isn’t injured at all. He’s set up a trap!"
"Break out!" the masked man roared.
But it was too late.
The Ashen Dragon Legion attacked first. Dragon fire raged, and a wave of Inferno swept over the battlefield.
In the first attack, more than half of the remaining members of The Night Watchman were killed or wounded.
The masked man barely escaped a hit. He gritted his teeth, pulled out a communicator, and reported urgently: "Master Novan, the intelligence was wrong! Logan has set up a strong force. We’re surrounded!"
There was a short silence on the other end of the communicator, then a cold voice replied: "Send five people to break through. Target the entrance to the underground space. Once you get in, you can interfere with Logan’s research, or even kill him."
"Yes!" The masked man put away the communicator, looked at the people around him, and said, "You five, come with me!"
Five top members of The Night Watchman, all at Legend stage 5 star, quickly gathered.
The masked man led the charge. The six of them became six blurs, heading straight for the island in the center of Star Lake.
The Ashen Dragon Legion rushed to block them, but the masked man was strong. He punched one Ashen Dragon and sent it flying. He broke through the defense.
Only 300 meters away from the entrance to the underground space.
At that moment, the space near the entrance twisted. A figure appeared out of nowhere—Logan.
He was wearing a black battle suit. Behind him, 29 bright star marks floated. His eyes were calm and emotionless.
"Going to die so fast?" Logan said.
His voice wasn’t loud, but it spread clearly across the battlefield.
The masked man stopped suddenly. The other five behind him also stopped.
They felt a powerful pressure far beyond Legend stage 5 star.
"Logan, you’re still fine." the masked man growled. "But do you think these familiars can stop us? You’re wrong! We six together are enough to kill you!"
