Antihero In the Hero Academy: I Can Connect the Past Heroes-Chapter 141: It Is Finally Done!
Chapter 141: It Is Finally Done!
Cain held Atlas tightly with his magic and Atlas watched Constantine’s movements carefully.
As Constantine began to use his magic again, drawing and writing hundreds of symbols and words as quickly and in as much detail as possible, strange runes started to coat the bond that connected the energy of the house and the World Tree.
After a short period, the band began to thin incredibly, almost to the point of breaking.
The black magic began to lose its strange darkness, albeit slowly. It was as if the contaminated mana and the contaminated life energy passing through it were being purified again.
When the runes began to overlap, it finally happened, and as a result, the bond between the house and the energy of the World Tree was finally broken.
Atlas was smiling involuntarily. The unfamiliar symbols and unfamiliar words drawn and written in the air seemed to act as a seal or a sword.
The resulting image was very, very ’cool’.
When Constantine disconnected, he realised that the gate was slowly becoming unstable and dangerous. It began to behave like a magic device ready to explode.
While Atlas was still trying to understand what was happening, he could see that Constantine’s hand movements were changing, and therefore the amount of mana he was releasing was also changing the unknown symbols and words he was creating.
"Haha...What a strange man...How can you get even better at a technique you have perfected?" Cain muttered aloud.
Indeed it was. Cordelia herself was the one person who was likely to be shocked by what Constantine was doing right now.
Even high-ranking titans and superior rune masters like Selene and Hecate, let alone Cordelia, would be surprised by the sight.
The runes formed were so stable, so clean, so fast, and so powerful that it would be possible to misuse them to create earthquakes that would destroy cities and huge tsunamis that could be created in the seas.
It didn’t even take a genius to realise why Sages were demigods. Just watching this image was enough for that.
When the runes were arranged one after the other, they turned into dozens of hands. Each hand was trying to forcefully close and keep the portal open, which was trying to explode in contrast with the life energy and black magic inside.
While this was happening, Cain did not stop for a second and continued to write down everything he saw as a report in the notebook in his hand.
As Constantine changed his hand movements again and began to create another device, colourful runes began to appear.
To put it bluntly, Constantine was painting a picture with the vague symbols and words he was writing and creating.
Every second the runes would turn into an attack pattern, attacking the life energy with the black magic as it entered the portal and prepared to explode. When the attacks were extinguished, the runes seemed to bar the explosion, in a way trying to be a protection against an attack from the outside.
Atlas was dazzled. The beauty of the image, that image of the dark magic that had begun to shine pure in the passage, was so attractive that he forgot to blink and just stared at the image in front of him with teary eyes.
"Woah..."
He could not help expressing his astonishment. How could he? The sight was so beautiful that even Cain had stopped taking reports.
The successive attacks were moving as if they had their consciousness.
After a short period, the attacks stopped.
Constantine ordered Cain to retreat after creating a barrier with the runes, and then snapped his finger once:
"Snap!"
It was a very clean snap, like the endpoint of a magic formula. The only reason Atlas was thinking about it was the sight he saw.
The energy inside the portal had suddenly exploded. This explosion had travelled inwards, not outwards. This meant that whatever was on the other side of the passage, the mana purified by the sacred life energy of the World Tree was overflowing outwards.
Atlas was inwardly happy. Even though he was showing this happiness outwardly, his heart was still pounding. He was literally shaking with joy at the thought of how many angels might have been killed by that explosion.
"Huff..."
Constantine suddenly let out a huge breath.
Immediately after this, he began to set up a rune assembly again. As usual, he began to write unknown symbols and words one after the other, and after a few seconds he stopped and said, "You can purify the magic in the other barrier, Cain, I’ll build a barrier around the World Tree so we’ll know if this thing happens again."
As soon as Cain heard those words, he and Atlas left the area, leaving only Constantine, who was focused on finishing the job.
When Cain and Atlas arrived at the barrier-sealed house, they realised that the barrier covering the house was insanely weakened.
There was a mass of dark magic on the house that even Atlas himself could have corrected and thus cleared.
Nevertheless, Cain had quickly spread his mana around, and by the time the stench of death had perhaps filled the entire capital, the barrier over the house had not only been cleared but had almost shattered on top of it.
It was a different sight than watching a master wizard or even a Sage. The muffled, cold and seriously pessimistic smell of death was so deep and sharp that one could even think that Thanatos, one of Nyx’s children, who was death itself, had descended to earth.
Demi-gods...Sages...And the fact that only a tiny part of the power of one of these people has been controlled in detail.
Sage of Death, Cain Sterling.
It was just a small pressure spell, that’s why he spread his mana around, but this...It was literally ’mesmerising’.
In fact, there was no direct reason for Cain to spread this level of mana around and cover the entire capital.
Or rather, Cain just wanted to give a warning. Maybe a little bit to rise to a higher status than other Sages in Atlas’ eyes.
When he saw the gleam in Atlas’ eyes as he looked back at him, he wanted to smile inwardly, but he held himself back and coughed a few times.
The warning he had given was to any angel worshippers observing this place. He had tried to pass a warning that the Sages were always watching them with certainty. Of course, this was completely successful.
At least the angel worshippers would have to find somewhere else to open a portal. Unless the World Tree had enormous and literally infinite life energy, it would be incredibly difficult to get it.
After all, there was nothing else in this world that possessed so much life energy that could open a portal so quickly.
To put it briefly, Atlas had succeeded in delaying the plans of the angel worshippers to release the true angels into this world, perhaps for decades.
All that remained now was for Archangel Michael to be released from the cage in which he had been kept. Atlas had a very good plan for this.
There was only one god he had to reach.
"Hermes." he thought in his mind. The name of the great god kept echoing in his mind.
Still, it was not something he could do right now. After all, Constantine had to be finished and the High Elf Palace had to be made sure everything was in good order.
Once the entire capital had been checked on the matter of the angel worshippers, Atlas could make it back to his chambers and finally choose Hermes, the god he had to choose.
This was not a very good choice. After all, Hermes was the god of merchants, thieves and travellers. There was no god faster than him, including Zeus himself, who had lightning bolts to represent speed, and even Apollo, who was light himself, was out of this list.
The God of Swiftness, as he was commonly called, had not earned this rank for nothing.
After almost two hours, a long time indeed, Constantine had finally finished the barriers he had been working on in the World Tree and had covered every side of the massive tree piercing the clouds with barriers, even the leaves.
This meant that it was time to go back, that everything was in good shape, and that the reason they had come here was over.
After an hour, when the High Elven Palace had been completely checked and the royal family was fully secured, Cain had already checked the capital from top to bottom for security reasons and found that none of the creatures belonged to the angel worshippers.
This showed that it was indeed possible to go back.
As time passed and the portal opened, the trio now waited in front of Cordelia and the other five Sages.
It was report time. Though this was of little concern to Atlas.
