[BL] Debut in Interstellar After Retiring as Grim Reaper-Chapter 248 - 247: A Devil
Chapter 247: A Devil
In the underworld, a grim reaper not only works to send the souls but also to fight against other spiritual beings like demons or evil ghosts. However above all, there was one thing that’s been difficult to deal with— Devils.
They are the higher creatures among the mentioned. They have more power and an authority to command those who are underneath them. That’s why it’s much more difficult and troublesome. They also have an intelligence far from average and thus became someone who can actually do whatever they want.
As grim reapers they are tasked to ’punish’ all the beings that are disregarding the laws of nature, especially when they are taking advantage of the human world and disrupting the balance.
As for Qin An, fighting with them has been actually just one thing that could make his ’emotions’ wavered a bit other than the rewards he could get from his merits. Only when he’s facing them could he feel the adrenaline rushing inside his body, making his blood boil— eager to fight them until death.
That was probably just his obsession to maintain his life as a grim reaper.
It’s just that he couldn’t believe that he will meet a devil in this lifetime— or rather on this timeline.
Qin An stood frozen as he gazed at the towering dark shadow enveloping the Marshal. If it’s in his past life he will definitely feel thrilled to fight, unfortunately he doesn’t have that capability right now.
His body can’t and the spiritual energy cannot sustain it like in the past.
However, what happened to him? How did a devil start to emerge inside his body? Clearly this wasn’t the usual possession but something that was more in depth.
’The Marshal seems to change. I don’t know what exactly it is but I can just feel it. Maybe I was just hallucinating and tired from the war earlier, right?’
But it’s not an illusion. There’s really something going on.
Qin An paused for a bit to conceal a complicated look on his eyes before going in.
"Marshal..." he called. The man turned his head to his direction and their eyes met. Qin An walked a bit closer and stopped with a smaller distance between them.
"I heard about what happened after I fell unconscious. Thank you for siding my decision," he paused for a second. "... I also heard about what you instructed others about what to do for Shen Lou and others’ ability," he paused again and looked at He Li.
"But, how did you know it?"
After his question, He Li didn’t answer so a strange silence gradually took over, making the atmosphere become somehow stiff and cold.
However Qin An didn’t mind or had plans to talk about it further. He couldn’t do anything to fight against the looming devil inside the Marshal for now so it was better to stay calm and not alert the enemy.
Although he knew that with its intelligence, the latter would sooner know that it’s impossible for a grim reaper like him to not notice his secrets, Qin An felt that the devil inside He Li won’t do anything at least for now. He could also feel that its energy hasn’t been stabilized yet and thus would take long to truly conquer the Marshal’s body.
He won’t let that happen of course. He just has to try harder to save him.
Qin An felt resolute and took a step closer again to the Marshal.
"I heard from Ji Wen that your mental power became unstable from the battle. You immediately took me to send the soldiers and I am sure that your situation isn’t stabilized yet. Have you taken inhibitors?" he asked.
"... I’ll take it later." He Li’s response was delayed for a few seconds because he was massaging his own temples. He seemed to be feeling something but in the next second, what he was feeling gradually disappeared and thus made him focus back from what Qin An said.
He Li frowned a bit because he knew that Ji Wen must have told the young man about his situation again but just like the time, he thought it was a bother to say it to the young man especially that everyone knows that inhibitors don’t work on him anymore. Other than the young man’s spiritual energy, his situation will just stay like this.
But how could he allow the young man to help him? He just woke up from sending many of their comrades and it’s obvious that the latter’s situation is not totally okay. He won’t allow him to use his power this time.
He Li was about to say something when Qin An took a step forward again, completely narrowing the distance between them. The man was sitting on his seat so the young man leaned down a bit and raised his hand without a word.
"!!!"
He Li’s body went completely frozen when the young man didn’t hesitate to put his palm above his eyes, covering his vision completely.
After a moment of shock, he instinctively raised his hand to push his palm when the young man’s voice sounded over just above his head.
"Don’t move and just let me."
His hand that was already placed on top of the young man’s hand and was about to move it away stiffened. It was as if He Li finally yielded at his request and really stopped his action but he also didn’t move his hand away from the young man.
At this moment, He Li’s senses focused on the warmth from the palm that’s covering his eyes and he’s holding softly. The familiar gentle energy slowly passes from the young man’s palm and it gradually penetrates inside his head, easing the aching pain that he’s been silently enduring.
Truthfully after that strange moment, the ache on his head became much worse. It was not only like needles that constantly pierced his head but was just like swords coated with poison were stabbing his head mercilessly. That poison keeps on tugging at the rationality that he has and he feels that any second that passes, the swords will finally cut the last strings of his rationality and he will feel into insanity.
And when that time really came, He Li felt an indescribable premonition that he may not make it. So he has to endure more than anything else.
Yet the moment Qin An put his palm on him, his corroded brain slowly fell into silence. The stinging pain lessened and the poison that constantly ate his will stopped from spreading.
As time passed by, He Li could feel the remaining grip on himself tighten again. He no longer felt the shuddering danger that was seeping and he could feel himself on his own control again.
Relief was poured inside him and when he could finally feel at ease, that’s when he also started to focus on the other things around him.
Since the young man’s palm is still covering his eyes, He Li could still feel the warmth on it. His hand that was placed at the back of the latter’s hand also felt the same. Even subconsciously he tightened his grip on that hand.
But unexpectedly when he did that, his heart suddenly started to beat wildly. He Li was caught off guard by the sudden rush of feelings and couldn’t help but tighten his grip again.
"... how was it?"
Qin An’s voice also sounded, which made him come back to his senses. He Li quickly pulled his hand away and answered the young man.
"I’m okay now." He Li raises his hand again and successfully pulls away Qin An’s hand on his eyes this time. He rais his head slightly and met the young man’s eyes for a second before he looked away and continued. "I’m fine. Thank you."
"..." Qin An didn’t respond and quietly stepped back away.
He Li cleared his throat and stood up from his seat. "You should take a rest again to completely stabilize yourself. You don’t have to worry about the other things and can just focus on your competition."
Qin An nodded. "Thank you again for helping me with that."
He Li shook his head for that small thing. He paused for a second and his eyes flashed with a thought. He looked at the young man and finally observed the changes in him.
Before he was deported to the war, the young man’s temperament was still somewhat different. At that time, even though he was gradually opening himself to others he can still feel the remaining distance between him and others. Maybe it’s because of his real identity or something that made him feel that way. 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖
However, now there was none. Qin An was standing in front of him and didn’t have the feeling of just doing something— whether being a trainee to debut or being a grim reaper who bore huge responsibilities. He wasn’t doing something now just because he felt a ’need’ to change to fit in as a human or feeling a sense of responsibility to act just because of his identity.
Instead he looks more relaxed— accepting all the things that happened to his life and just living with it, both as a human and a grim reaper.
He Li’s Adam’s apple moved up and down and he stopped gazing at the young man. He instead walked towards the glass wall and stand there before breaking the ice between them.
"Why do you like the stage?"
