Blood Nemesis-Chapter 226: Reconnecting
Alongside Woojin, Yuna, and Jiah's father were both present in the living room. And they were talking to Oliver's parents before he arrived.
'This early?'
Oliver didn't know why they arrived this early to talk. After all, no one visits someone else's home at seven am.
'Unless they didn't visit just now.'
'They could have come yesterday and been forced to stay because of the blood beetle swarm.'
'That might be the case.'
Oliver's eyes glanced over them apathetically.
This caused Yuna's heart to thump. The fear she buried deep within her heart instinctively emerged, causing her to stand up in respect.
"Ah…!"
She exclaimed when she realised what she had done.
Oliver was a younger man in his teens. She was not required to stand up and receive him, and yet, she did.
With an awkward smile, she looked around and slowly sat back before anyone could say anything.
"Hello, Oliver," she awkwardly said as she sat.
"Hello, Yuna." Oliver acknowledged her and walked into the living room.
He was still wearing the almost pleasant smile he tried his best to fake. Like that, he went near the sofa his parents were sitting on before taking a seat.
Oliver had a bad opinion of Jiah's father. So, his eyes were focused on him for the majority of the time.
'They must have come here with some purpose. They are not the kind to visit without any.'
'...b*stards…won't let me even rest for a day.'
Oliver said in his mind, while smiling at his parents.
Oliver's mother noticed the awkward air that the conversation stopper called Oliver permeated. She gave a gentle tap on his shoulder and asked.
"Where were you for the past eight or so hours?"
Although the hero union had reported Oliver was resting, she still asked her son.
"Sleeping… I was exhausted because of the beetle swarm." 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
"You could have called us before you went to sleep."
Oliver's mother wanted to pinch his ear and teach him some sense, but because of the guests, she managed to control herself.
"Oh! I will do that next time." Oliver nodded and said.
However, it caused Oliver's mother's brows to crease into a frown.
What does he mean next time?
Is he going to jump headfirst into similar situations again?
This kid!
Maya wanted to pick up her broom. But when she thought about the service her son had done to the city, she couldn't find words to admonish him.
Without Oliver working hard for hours, the swarm wouldn't have left in a day. From what the Hero Union said, it could have taken a week, or maybe two, for the entire swarm to go on its own. So, if Oliver hadn't done what he did, they would have been trapped inside their homes for a week.
To someone well off, it wouldn't have mattered. But for those who earn daily wages to support their family, it was the difference between having food to eat and starving.
How could she, after knowing all that, scold her son?
"Ah…sigh!"
Oliver's mother took a deep breath, accepting what he said.
"Next time…if there is a next time…inform us before you do something like that."
Oliver happily nodded, leaning back into the sofa. As he did, he turned his attention back to the guests.
After looking at Jiah, who was standing nearby for a few seconds, Oliver faced Yuna.
"Why are the great Kim family members in my humble abode?"
Yuna felt a suffocating feeling shroud her the moment Oliver turned towards her. The image of the red blood giant emerged in her mind once again, forcing her to clench her fist tightly, mostly in trepidation.
Despite her rationality, she was convinced that something bad would happen. Just a glance from Oliver had thrown all her thoughts into disarray.
Fear was never rational.
And for some reason, the Oliver who was standing before her had become even scarier than the one she had known in the past.
Did his strength grow in these few days? She wondered while swallowing hard.
Meanwhile, Oliver's mother pinched him on the side, asking with her eyes to be respectful.
Oliver pouted and continued.
"I thought you might never come here after what happened last time we talked."
His words were directed at both Yuna and Jiah's father.
Jiah's father knew it was challenging to win against Oliver in a battle of words, so he tried his best to ignore him.
Yuna, on the other hand, blushed and silently looked away.
"What happened last time?" Oliver's father inquired.
"Oh! Don't you remember? I maimed Woojin over here and then scolded them without end." Oliver pointed at Woojin standing nearby as he spoke.
His words made both his father and mother reel back in shock. Finally, they remembered what Oliver had done when he went to visit the Kims. Because of their cordial interaction up to this point, they had forgotten about it.
"I don't think you forgot that, right?" Oliver inquired.
This time, Woojin silently stepped back. Even if everyone else forgets it, he wouldn't.
"So, why did you come here this time? I thought you disowned her?" Oliver pointed at Jiah this time.
Jiah's father had nothing to say. Although he initially spoke about disowning her when she decided to leave with Oliver, he really didn't mean it.
It was his anger speaking at that time.
That was why he came here when he knew the blood beetle swarm was about to attack the city.
He thought his daughter wouldn't be safe in Oliver's house if they were attacked. So, he brought Yuna with him and came here to protect his daughter.
Woojin arrived later, after the exam was over.
Seeing the silence permeate, Oliver's mother stepped in and smacked Oliver on the head.
"This kid, didn't I ask you to be nice?" She said and began to apologise.
"Sorry about that. My son can be a little extreme at times. He really doesn't mean it. I hope you don't take it to heart."
"Mom…" Oliver wanted to say he really does mean it, but stopped immediately, noticing her expression change.
So, he quickly changed his words and asked, "...What's for breakfast?"
