As the familiar neighborhood came into view, He Juan was struck by a wave of nostalgia. For a split second, it felt as if he had never left, as if the seven years chasm had never existed and he was just returning after a long day of work— to where his mate was.

He Juan’s heart began to pulse irregularly once the car parked smoothly in front of the house. At a glance, it did not seem like anything had changed at all. But upon closer scrutiny, he noticed that Mu Yuze had switched the gate to a taller and sturdier one, and he had also decorated his yard with several potted plants, adding a touch of extra warmth to the already cozy space.

To think that Mu Yuze was still taking care of the house so well during his long absence instead of abandoning it and moving somewhere closer to his workplace... the emotions that surged within He Juan at that moment were so wild and intense that he lost his breath for a while.

I’m back, he thought, emotional. I’m really back.

"We’re here," Chen Youzhi announced. "You will be fine, won’t you, Boss? If you need anything, don’t hesitate to give me a call."

He Juan waved off the man’s concern with a chuckle. "Of course, Chen’er. What could possibly happen to me? Thank you for bringing me around today. I will see you later."

He stepped out of the car at the same time as the gate burst open. Mu Yuze had run out as soon as he heard the sound of the engine outside, and the depths of his black-blue eyes glimmered in joy at the sight of He Juan. "Gege, you’re here..."

At the sight of his precious, He Juan’s heart swelled with so much tender affection that it threatened to burst out of his ribcage and vibrate along with the air around him. He was one heartbeat away from engulfing the omega in his embrace, when he noticed that the other person had come out only in a short-sleeved shirt and slippers.

Frowning in concern, he quickly ushered Mu Yuze inside, "What are you doing out here, dressed so thinly like this? Come, let’s go inside first."

"Mn," Mu Yuze nodded his head obediently and turned to enter the house, though he made sure to look back at He Juan every three steps as if he was scared that He Juan would vanish into thin air. It was a gesture so endearing that He Juan felt his heart squeezing in his chest, almost giving him a cardiac arrest. Goodness, how could his mate be so adorable?!

The instant the door closed behind them, He Juan finally surrendered to his impulse and let himself loose.

Grasping Mu Yuze’s arm, he pulled the omega towards him, encircling the slender waist with his arm. He swallowed Mu Yuze’s tiny gasp into his mouth as he devoured the omega’s soft and moist lips intensely, hungrily. "W–Wait, Gege..." Mu Yuze let out a soft moan and He Juan returned it with a deep groan of his own.

Like a man possessed, he parted Mu Yuze’s petal-like lips with his thumb and slipped his tongue inside, sweeping over the rows of gum before entangling himself with Mu Yuze’s soft tongue. He sucked on it hard, as if eager to extract every drop of sweetness he could find there.

The kiss descended as sudden and fierce as a whirlwind that all Mu Yuze could do was grasp onto He Juan’s arms tightly and receive the man’s love and desperation for him, struggling to keep himself upright.

"Haa, Mu Yuze..." He Juan forced himself to withdraw before he lost control of himself. Still, he couldn’t resist pressing his lips on every point of Mu Yuze’s face – his forehead, eyelids, nose, cheeks, and the corner of his lips. In the end, he rested their foreheads together as they struggled to catch their breaths, gazing deeply into Mu Yuze’s dazed and intoxicated eyes with a gentle smile.

"Mu Yuze, I’m home," he whispered, his voice as soft as the spring breeze gracing the Earth after a prolonged winter.

Perhaps it was because they were in a familiar house – the house in which He Juan had left Mu Yuze behind seven years ago – the sense of surrealism he felt was too strong. He still couldn’t believe it. He still couldn’t believe that he could have Mu Yuze like this, that he could hug and kiss Mu Yuze whenever he wanted, when last time just the mere notion of their future together seemed impossibly bleak. And judging from the reddening of Mu Yuze’s eyes, it seemed like the same memory was also playing in his mind.

Back then, both of them were wounded, cornered and desperate. They hurt each other with sharp words when all they ever wished for was to be together.

But now, everything was different.

It was like a dream coming true for He Juan, and the sheer happiness he felt almost seemed unreal. It wasn’t until he vividly felt the tingle on his lips, the warmth of Mu Yuze’s ragged breath fanning his face, and Mu Yuze’s very presence in his arms that He Juan could convince himself that he was not dreaming, that this was not something his mind had conjured up to cope with his crumbling sanity.

"I... I..." a layer of moisture clung to Mu Yuze’s lashes as he burrowed himself into He Juan’s embrace and wrapped his arms tightly around the man’s torso, ears pressed against the strong and powerful heartbeat. "Welcome home. I’ve missed you so, so much..."

Mu Yuze rubbed his forehead against the Alpha’s shoulder and discreetly sniffed him, eager to savor his most favorite pheromones in the whole universe. However, he was dismayed to discover that he could detect none, for He Juan had managed to control himself remarkably well.

How? he wondered, a little upset. Isn’t his rut coming soon? So how could he still control himself so well?

Unaware of the complaints in Mu Yuze’s heart, He Juan was currently drowning in bliss. He felt like he could die from cuteness overdose from how lovely and adorable his mate was with his clingy demeanor. Looking at him like this, it was hard to believe how guarded and prickly Mu Yuze was when they first met. Hidden beneath the layer of hard shells and sharp thorns was a piece of sweet and sticky flesh, and He Juan was the first and only one to discover that.

What had he done to deserve such a perfect and amazing mate? Kissing Mu Yuze on the temple, He Juan bent down slightly and scooped the omega into his arms, causing the slippers to slip off Mu Yuze’s feet.

"G–Gege!" Shocked, Mu Yuze scrambled to cling onto He Juan’s shoulders for purchase, but He Juan merely responded with a playful laugh as he toed off his shoes and entered the living room.

"What is it? Can’t I carry you around? Hmm?" To demonstrate, He Juan made a sudden spin, earning him a surprised yelp from Mu Yuze, who was hiding his reddened face in his Alpha’s neck.

"O–Of course you can..." he stammered. What had gotten into Juan-gege? First, the unusually sudden kiss laced with desperation and now this... oh, if he kept this up, Mu Yuze’s heart wouldn’t be able to survive from the sheer amount of happiness he was feeling!

Reluctant to let go, He Juan tightened his hold on the omega instead as he showered kisses onto his hair and crimson earlobes, murmuring, "How I wish we had some music; I could have invited you for a dance."

Mu Yuze’s heart skipped a beat when he heard that. A dance? He had spent the first half of his life simply struggling to survive, then the other half chasing after He Juan until he ended up becoming a police officer. Where would he have thought of dancing before? It was a foreign notion that had never crossed his mind even once, but now that He Juan suddenly brought it up...

"But I..." Mu Yuze peered up at him hesitantly. "I’ve never danced before..."

He Juan’s eyes immediately lit up as an excited grin spread across his face. "Then, shall we?" he offered. "Don’t be afraid, Gege will teach you."
