Captured By The Cold Detective (BL)-Chapter 644: Dangerous Factor
As expected, the entire room erupted into chaos at the shocking intels, just like a big stone thrown into the surface of the calm lake, creating a loud and noisy splash. Corruption and nepotism always existed in every workplace worldwide, but knowing it was one thing; having their identities exposed was another thing altogether. Even more so when the person who provided the information was none other than XIU!
This was the police bureau, for God’s sake! How did he manage to obtain information which they couldn’t?!
When questioned about it, He Juan merely gave a casual shrug,
"I have my ways – ways that you guys will deem inappropriate. So? Will you continue to interrogate me about my precious informant, or will you start dealing with the Manipulator’s underlings?"
Of course, the latter would be the priority. They had been enduring great humiliation caused by the Manipulator for months, yet as it turned out there were officers who colluded with him right under their nose? How unforgivable! According to the data from He Juan, three individuals were involved, two of whom were stationed in the local bureaus whereas the other one was right in their city bureau. Li Zhi wasted no time in seizing them all.
"Summon them right away and lock them in separate rooms. I will question them personally!"
Captain Li had been fuming ever since yesterday, so this was the perfect chance for him to vent his anger.
As the three officers were torn apart by the callous and merciless Captain of the Violent Crime Unit, He Juan leisurely sipped his hot tea while enjoying the sight of his little mate sitting across from him.
"Don’t you find it amusing?" he asked with a mocking curl of his lips. "You guys treat me as a criminal, but you spring into action at the slightest meat I throw. Isn’t it a little too... shameless?"
Mu Yuze shot him a pointed look that seemed to say ’what are you putting on this act for?’ but He Juan merely returned it with an innocent look as though he was just making a casual comment, knowing fully well that his words must have incited the ire of every single person in the monitor room. He couldn’t help it. At this rate, the police would keep losing to Ku Jin if all they did was to stick to their rigid and ineffective procedures.
What He Juan did was to give them a small... lash of motivation. This was his Xiao Ze’s workplace, after all. Of course, he wanted it to become better in the future.
Mu Yuze released a long sigh, seemingly wearied by his antics. "We’re the law enforcers. There are certain boundaries we must not cross, or else we would be no different than thugs on the street. Isn’t that the whole point of our cooperation? So that you can fill in where we’re lacking?"
He Juan concealed a smile behind his cup. "Who knows? What should I do, Officer Mu? I’m starting to doubt the efficacy of all this. Which do you think will be quicker – me working on this alone or waiting for you guys to solve it for me?"
Mu Yuze’s jaws tightened. "What are you trying to say? Just get to the point and stop talking in circles."
What an impatient little rabbit, He Juan mused inwardly. He placed the cup on the table and leveled an unimpressed look on Mu Yuze. "I’m talking about Luo Xuan, the Boss of Xuanlong. How long have you kept him under watch? One month? Two? And yet I didn’t see any efforts to extract any information from him. If it were me... heh," he sneered, "I would have squeezed out every single drop of blood in his body until he’s completely dry. You asked me to cooperate, and I did. But so far, I’ve seen no results from your side, Officer Mu."
Mu Yuze’s glare intensified. He tilted his head slightly to the side, most likely listening to the instructions from his earpiece. He then responded to He Juan’s query, "We understand your concerns, but we’re unable to go through with the investigation, because the target’s medical condition is—"
"Haa..." a low chuckle interrupted him.
In an instant, the temperature in the interrogation room seemed to plunge into the freezing point as the smile faded from He Juan’s face. His steely gaze remained fixed on Mu Yuze, yet it also seemed like he was staring at the mirror behind him – right at the people next door. "Medical condition? Did I hear that right, Officer Mu? Please, don’t make me laugh. I heard he managed to wound an Interpol agent, quite severely at that."
Of course, He Juan had learned this information from the very person who was sitting before him, but the way he worded his sentence made it seem like he had ears and eyes everywhere. And it was a very daunting notion to everyone present. Despite being in the position of a criminal under investigation, his commanding and imposing aura created an illusion as if he held the world beneath his feet.
An extremely dangerous and unpredictable factor.
"Do you believe such a person couldn’t endure a few mere hours of questioning? Or... are you afraid that the blame will fall on you if something were to happen to him in between?" he demanded sternly, causing Mu Yuze to flinch. Not only him, but everyone in the monitor room also sucked in a sharp breath, equally intimidated. The air turned so heavy with silence that only the ticking clock could be heard.
But then, He Juan abruptly withdrew his aura and offered an amicable smile, "Of course, this is just a friendly suggestion. Please take it with a grain of salt." He casually blew on his tea and took a sip as if nothing had happened at all. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢
Li Zhi had only learned about this after he returned from interrogating the rats. Everyone was certain that he would blow his tops again because come on, XIU had just mocked their incompetence, not only once or twice but repeatedly!
But contrary to everyone’s expectations, Li Zhi fell into a thoughtful silence. "... He’s right."
Everyone was dumbfounded, "Captain...?"
"We’ve been too passive all this time. Without his help, our investigation would have hit a dead end by now. We put the questioning on hold because the doctor cautioned us not to agitate him in case his condition will suddenly worsen, but who is he? He’s the Boss of Xuanlong, for God’s sake! He’s not a fragile omega we should coddle and tolerate!"
He Juan’s provoking words sparked a fiery spirit in Li Zhi, who declared with conviction. "We will commence the investigation tomorrow. Shall anything happen to the target, I will take full responsibility. Let’s not delay this any longer."
The previous gloomy atmosphere immediately heated up thanks to Li Zhi’s resolute stance. Just then, Mu Yuze entered the room, having called for another break during the investigation. In an instant, the officers crowded excitedly around him.
"Good work, Officer Mu!"
"That’s an awesome session!"
"Goddamnit, that bastard’s aura is really no joke! For a split second, I almost thought the one-way mirror was malfunctioning because he made eye contact with me!"
"How did you stand your ground against him? If it were me... shit, I would have pissed my pants!"
"It’s nothing," Mu Yuze replied coolly, but only he himself knew that his fingertips were still trembling until now, and the back of his shirt was soaked with sweat.
