Divine Heritage: Only I Can Judge The gods-Chapter 81: Blood and Tears
A large elaborate mansion sat in a very opulent neighborhood, other houses around this mansion were abandoned, its occupants either in one of the shelters or somewhere else.
But this compound was different, just as the apocalypse warning had been issued, the house had been transformed into a shelter of its own.
Iron bars barred the windows, the tall fences were crowned with barbed wires, and there were tons of security guards with military grade weapons and tall towers with overhead spotlights.
It was the minister’s house and as such he had made adequate preparations just in case of an emergency like this.
The chief security was doing his usual patrol, an earpiece in his ear and a pistol in his hand.
It was a calm yet ominous night.
Just the red moon overhanging in the skies alone was enough to send a shiver down his spine but that was not where the horrors stopped.
The air had a certain ashy scent to it and there was something wrong with the soil— it was mushy, like it was no longer sand but something else, something he did not want to imagine.
He let out a breath as he watched the gate, the night was silent, like a graveyard there was not a single peep.
But quiet was good, far better than action. As a retired military personnel he knew just how terrifying noise could be.
The minister himself was not around, gone on urgent business, he had left his daughter behind who was now in the mansion with her friends.
Who would have known that such a thing would happen?
The safety of his daughter was his number one priority and thankfully, they had a chopper on the roof. If anything happened they would simply fly to the next shelter.
After ensuring that everything was okay, he was about to move back into the house when someone ran up to him, panting and sweating profusely.
"T-the..."
The man tried to speak but found himself tripping over his own words.
’Rookies... one of the most annoying people to work with.’
The man placed his pistol in its holster before addressing the boy.
"Speak up!" The man said, shocking the younger man out of his stupor.
"T-there is something on the field!"
The chief guard pushed the man to the side and peered down at the field. His eyes widened once he saw it.
A dark slender oval shadow was on the field, but there was nothing around to cast that shadow.
The chief guard could not believe his eyes but he had known exactly what it was immediately he set his eyes on it—
A portal had appeared right within the walls of the mansion, rendering all their arrangements to keep them out useless.
He had no time to think about the consequences, he had a job to do and intended to do it right.
"Sound the alarm!" He said as he ran forward, pulling his pistol from its holster.
A few seconds later a loud beeping sound blared through the entire area, the spotlights flared immediately locating the area where the portal was laid and the guards all pointed their rifles at the unshaking darkness, ready to unleash hell.
The chief guard, Baron, walked past the group, standing at the head of the formation.
"Immediately they pop out, I want to see grenades flying, gas popping, lead tearing through the air and batons at the ready!"
"Hesitate and you are dead, miss and you’re dead, show fear and you are dead. If the monsters don’t kill you then I’ll fucking kill you myself! Got that?!"
"Yes sir!" They all screamed in unison.
"And someone, get me a fucking cigar!"
They all waited, watching the dark circle in nervous anticipation, Baron had his hands on the trigger ready to unleash hell on the beast.
Their weapons were specifically made for taking apocalypse beasts out so at least they had a chance.
Seconds passed by and then minutes until suddenly—
TZZZZZ!
Blue lightning suddenly shot out of the portal, electrocuting the guards on the frontlines within seconds, and snacking around a few others as well.
Their bodies spasmed violently, spittle dripping out of their mouths as they collapsed to the floor.
Baron heard someone scream as madness broke loose and little green creatures poured out of the portal like ants.
They had bald heads with thick wrinkled skin, yellow eyes, slim arms and bellies as big as their heads.
They were also humanoid and wore lip clothes to shield their privates.
"Shitty goblins!"
His soldiers seemed paralyzed with fear as they locked eyes with the monsters, Baron shoved one of them to the side and unhooked a grenade, tearing out its protection with his teeth and tossing it right at the horde.
Boom!
Multiple of the tiny demons were blown to smithereens, and this seemed to be a wake up call to the others because they finally unloaded.
The wonderful smell of lead and gunpowder filled the air and the night was brightened up by the glare of the muzzles.
The creatures were slowly being pushed back at first but it was only due to the grenade which disoriented them. Once the next batch emerged, it became hell.
Goblins were fast, far too fast. They spread across the field, dodging the bullets of the soldiers like it was nothing and then finally, the first group broke their formation.
The little goblin slashed forward with its corked sword, ripping the face of one of the guards apart.
The goblin’s body was swiftly filled with holes but there were far too many, with each one they killed there were five more to compensate for them.
Guards were dying left and right much to his horror, the goblins even swarmed the tower, climbing up and pushing the guard atop it down from the height, their horrid laughter reaching them from above.
It was hell, and he was right in the midst of this hell.
And yet Baron continued to fight, unwilling to leave his guards behind.
A goblin sneaked its way towards him and stabbed him right in the side causing him to drop his pistol.
He stumbled to the ground and the creature jumped, about to land atop him when Baron pulled out his dagger.
Whoosh!
He dug the dagger right into the beast’s eye, twisting it until it finally stopped moving.
Baron then held onto the wound that was now profusely bleeding and searched for his gun, but he could not find it.
All around him, he could hear the screams of dying men, adults screaming like children just before their lives were taken out of their hands.
By his side, a goblin was violently stabbing an already dead man in the head, saliva pouring out of its lips in excitement as it was lost in its own world.
And yet, this was not the most terrifying part...
It was when ’it’ came that everything went to hell. Out of the portal came a blue skinned goblin far smaller than the rest, on its neck was a necklace of shiny stones and feathers and on its head was something that resembled a crown.
The creature stepped out of the portal with a strange kind of elegance and sucked in the air, a smile appearing on its face.
Just then, fire erupted from one of the remaining towers, a rifle roared and bullets poured right atop the goblin.
The guard kept shooting up until he had no ammunition left, the blue goblin was now covered in a cloud of dust.
"Attaboy!" Baron shouted as he rose to his feet, but his smile quickly vanished from his face.
TZZZZZ!
Lightning tore through the dust and right at the tower.
Boom!
The entire thing was blown up and engulfed in flames, the mighty structure reduced to rubble in mere moments.
That was when Baron realized, they couldn’t win...
And so he ran.
He made his way to the control room as quickly as he could and locked the door behind him, stumbling through the room to get to the communicators.
Baron quickly turned it on and began searching for any active channels.
"I-is anyone there?!"
Blood spewed out his mouth as he struggled to keep himself lucid.
"We need help, a g-gate, a gate has opened in front of the Silver Pavilion!"
Bang! Bang!
The door rocked violently, no doubt the goblins. Baron tried to say something else but his vision was already running dark.
Boom!
The door was blasted open and the goblins came upon him, hacking and stabbing, his screams drowning in gurgling blood and tears.
