Ark stared at the changes that had happened after his battle with the wolves and smiled.

He had been able to get a good amount of points, but the problem was that now his body felt like jelly. He had not give himself enough time to recover his essence and was feeling the drawbacks of essence depletion.

There was a noticable difference between how much essence he generated while in his armour and when he was in normal clothing, but it would still take some time before he would be back to full capacity.

The suv along with the fleet of military vehicles finally arrived in front of the impervious gate of the shelter.

The gate was ginormous and had walls that were just as tall, the shelter was like an impenetrable fortress.

Spikes covered the upper parts of the walls to deter anything or anyone from attempting to climb and of course, there were torrents mounted at the top of them.

They waited for a few moments, one of the soldiers at the head of the group speaking to the resident garrison before the adamantine gates creaked open, revealing the shelter within.

Although the outside of the shelter had the appearance of a prison, inside the shelter was much different. It was like a small city with multiple tall structures dotting the landscape, there were trees and flowers planted next to the buildings and even a few recreational facilities.

It was basically like a small city, which made sense considering how many people would be housed here.

The suv stopped in front of one of the buildings and they all got out and stared at the building in front of them.

In a normal situation, Faye and her friends would have been registered and given a room just like the other citizens, but Thalia had given them specific orders to keep them close at all times.

Faye stared at the building, a slight frown forming on her face.

"So this is where we’ll be staying till the apocalypse is over?"

Emma nodded and faced the direction of her voice.

"Never been in a shelter before?"

Emma shook her head.

"We often just leave any city when there is an apocalypse warning."

"Oh, well not everyone can do that, that is why we have the shelters. Don’t worry, I’m sure it will be a memorable experience."

Something about how she said it sounded rather ominous but Ark didn’t comment.

They had not entered the building yet because they were meant to be joined by someone else, and so they waited for a few seconds.

Another Military truck was already parked in front of them and had been for sometime now.

Ark could hear sharp whispers coming out of the truck.

"W..ake up c..tain."

He could hear the full thing but besides him Emma cocked her head slightly.

"Wake up captain?"

Ark frowned, was the man they were waiting for really sleeping?!

His body currently felt like jelly and yet he was pushing himself to stand while the man was busy enjoying a leisurely nap.

After some time, a man with tired eyes and messy hair jumped out of the vehicle and stared around the facility.

A cloud of white smoke waffled out of his nostrils just after he took a drag from the cigarette and exhaled. A woman came out of the truck as well, before the military vehicle drove off to join the others.

She had dark blue hair that almost looked black coupled with cobalt blue eyes and pouty lips.

The man turned around until his eyes landed on their group, he tossed the cigarette to the floor and stomped on it before approaching them.

"Good morning kids." The man spoke, his voice sounding gruff. "Ummmm—" The man paused as though confused.

Then he muttered underneath his voice.

"I need some darn sleep."

The woman standing beside him taped him on his shoulder and he finally righted himself.

"I am Captain Damian Ackeli, I have been appointed as your advisor."

Ark tried his best to hide his discomfort.

’Really? This guy?!’

He looked like the perfect example of a terrible example. His uniform was rumpled, he had sleep hair and the dark circles around his eyes made him look like a human panda.

If anything, the woman next to him was far more organized.

Ark put up his best fake smile and shook his hand.

"Ark Lysander."

The man quirked a brow at the mention of his name but otherwise said nothing and instead stretched his hand at Emma.

Emma didn’t move at first so Ark discreetly nudged her and she got the memo, she raised her hands forward and took his hand.

"I’m Emma."

Vivian and her friends also gave a short introduction, with Vivian keeping the part that she was the minister’s daughter a secret.

The woman with him also gave them her name, Lauretta.

Damian then pointed at the facility, "The resident commander we are taking over from us is waiting for us inside, shall we?"

When they were about to go, Emma did something rather strange. She grabbed onto his shirt as they began to move, using Ark to guide movement.

To others, it might have been the most natural thing to do, after all, she was blind. But Ark who had lived with her for some time now knew she was acting strangely.

He turned to face her but the look she was giving him told him to leave it and so he did not push further and instead played along with her game.

One word could describe the interior of the building, and that word was functional. Everything here had a purpose, from the slightest little bit of decoration, to even the way the rooms were structured.

Just as Damian had said, the former commander of the shelter was already there waiting for them.

The man stood at the counter, his fingers twitching at his sides, he would occasionally take glances at his watch repeatedly as though he was running late for something.

Once he laid eyes on them, the man seemed oddly relieved and rushed forward, giving a quick greeting.

Everyone could tell that something was wrong but before they could ask, Faye cut in.

"What is wrong?"

Lauretta frowned at this, Ark took note of it but acted as though he had not seen a thing.

The man glanced at her, his eyes questioning. It was easy to tell that Ark and Emma were curse bearers since they were still in their armour but Faye was not in hers.

Once his eyes locked on the mark on her forehead through the man walked up to her as though he had met his saviour.

He lowered his voice to a whisper that only those around them could hear.

"T-th.. t-there... there had been a breach in the facility walls."

Damian’s eyes widened.

"What the fuck?"
