Draconic King of Shadows-Chapter 40: Ambush in the Night
Damion’s body was slung over the shoulders of one of the mysterious individuals, and they brazenly left through the front door as if the place belonged to them.
Unfortunately, they didn’t even take three steps outside before Damion stirred, his eyes snapping open and his body jerking slightly.
"Knock him out," the leader of the two-man team ordered.
Just as the person carrying him moved his hand to smash Damion’s head with a chop, Damion’s eyes flashed with a dark glint, and two green beams of energy left his palms, hitting them on the back and rib respectively.
"Bold of you to think of doing something this stupid," Damion’s voice drifted into the ears of the two students as he stood to his feets.
The two masked students exchanged glances, before the leader spoke. "How did you know?" he asked, clenching the side of his torso where he had tanked the Drake’s Poison Blast.
"Lets just say I have my ways," Damion replied, the green ring surrounding his eyes dimming.
A smirk appeared on Damion’s face, and he cracked his knuckles before summoning his Tang Dao. The Jaws of Ophidia wasn’t used, and his coat was kept in his storage.
Damion, after suffering from Kaiden, decided to leave his hunt for another day after his injuries were healed completely.
He left immediately, crossing into the academy, and sprinting back to his dorm room. On getting close to the dorm, an idea struck him, and he activated Drake’s Sight, scanning the surrounding area to see if he would spot the mysterious observer who had been watching him before he entered the forest.
Damion was surprised to find two figures in his room, waiting, so he pretended to be tired and crashed on his bed, making use of the opportunity to prepare the Drake’s Poison Blast.
The two individuals were deceived by his act, and Damion struck when they least expected.
They were shocked by this, but retained their composure nonetheless.
"You’re only making things harder for yourself," one of them said. "You’ll be captured either way."
"Oh really?" Damion asked with a smirk. "It’s nighttime you know?"
The two students cocked their heads in confusion, and before they could react, Damion disappeared into a dark corner, his purple eyes being the last thing they saw.
The leader of the duo twirled his fingers, and strong swirls of Blue wind began to revolve around him.
The second student raised his hands, a green glow coating them. He held a hand over the spot he had been hit, and his injury began to heal.
The leader raised a hand, and the blue wind swirling around him intensified. The air in the hallway began to distort, and a massive gust of wind shot towards ths corner where Damion was hiding.
Damion, who had already predicted the attack, moved, diving into the shadows and reappearing at another corner, a sly grin spreading across his face.
The second student, already fully healed, charged towards Damion, pulling out a Trident from nowhere, the green glow in his hands slipping unto the prongs of the weapon.
Damion, unfazed, raised his Tang Dao, and his focus reached an unprecedented state.
The sword cut through the air at a stunning speed and clashed with the Trident, pushing the second student back. However, the green glow on the Trident’s tips shot out like bullets, Damion barely dodging out of the way.
He took a step to the side, parrying a wind lance that almost impaled him.
The leader, though, remained stoic, the blue wind revolving around him like a vortex.
The student with the Trident charged in again, clashing with Damion and unleashing a flurry of deadly thrusts, combined with an avalanche of punches and kicks.
The leader supported from behind, throwing out his own sets of wind blades and lances. He even tried to make Damion falter using his wind to throw his balance off.
However, Damion remained calm and calculating, using his momentum, combined with the force of the attacks to shift and turn at unpredictable angles.
He felt more in tune with Blessing of Strength, and his actions carried an undeniable grace in them.
His gaze flashed with bloodlust, and he jumped through his shadow, reappearing at another angle and slicing at the Trident user.
The leader flashed forward in that same instant, coating his arms in drill shaped currents of slicing wind and out punching out at Damion.
The leader was far away from Damion, yet the attack crossed the distance in what felt like a split second and crashed against his blade.
Damion’s arms vibrated, his wrists straining as his sword was thrown of course. He barely managed to activate Shadow Pulse as another attack found its way towards him, catching the two students off guard and disappearing again.
Damion reappeared behind... and Dragon’s Authority activated.
His aura changed, his eyes glowing brightly in the dark and his bloodlust pouring out like a broken dam.
"Let’s try this again," Damion said as the Jaws of Ophidia appeared, setting on his jaw.
Before the two students could comprehend the new change that had occured, Damion kicked off like a rocket, barrelling towards the two students like a raging bull.
Two bullets of wind streaked through the air towards him, but he did something no one expected.
[Dragon’s Reflective Skin has been activated]
The two bullets hit his chest, but his constitution plus Dragon’s Reflective Skin did a good job reducing the strength of the bullet and making them almost useless... almost.
Damion bled, two ripped holes in his shirt pouring out blood. Three more bullets were shot, and the same thing repeated itself.
The two students seeing the absurdity of his actions shot each other a knowing stare, and they charged at Damion together.
Shadow Pulse smashed against a Trident thrust and Wind scythe, and when the shadow receded, Damion was already swinging his sword in a wide arc.
"Now!" The leader of the team yelled, and the two students jumped to the side.
A second later, an explosion rang out, sending flames, smoke and a devastating shockwave around.
The building groaned and creaked as the windows were smashed to pieces, and a loud bang traveled omnidirectionally.
The leader reached out to grab Damion, but he escaped by the skin of his teeth into his shadow.
"Damnit," the leader cursed. "Retreat... we’ll come back for him."
