Chapter 42: The Heir of Ophidia

Damion paused, read the words on the screen, lowered his head and smirked.

The man sitting across him stroked his red beard, waiting patiently for Damion’s response.

The three hooded individuals’ aura changed, appearing to be getting impatient by the lack of a reply. Their mana was draining just to keep their abilities active, yet Damion wasn’t saying anything.

Damion felt the change in their aura through Dragon’s Authority, and unwilling to waste any more time, he answered. "No."

The red bearded man briefly glanced at the two hooded living lie detectors behind Damion, before shooting Damion a piercing gaze.

"Okay. Where were you last night then?" The man asked again, raising an eyebrow and leaning forward to rest his elbows on the table. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦

"In my room," Damion answered.

"What were you doing," he pressed on.

Damion frowned. "Sleeping, until I was attacked."

"A network blocker was used then," The man spoke silently to himself. "There’s no other reason for the necklace to suddenly jam."

He stroked his beard, a habit Damion realised he had. The man paused, collecting his thoughts before asking again. "Did you see your attackers?"

Damion shook his head. "They were wearing masks."

The man fell silent, his eye narrowing as he formulated his next question.

"There have been rumors circulating that you’ve awakened your Ability," the man began, his voice shifting to a serious tone —not like he wasn’t serious before. "There are video footages of you using a dark power to stop attacks and move around with a certain purple glow in your eyes..."

"What do you have to say about these?"

Damion folded his lips, acting as if he was excited and couldn’t wait to spill the beans. "Yes, Sir, I recently awakened my Ability!" He exclaimed energetically, feigning excitement.

"Very well. Your necklace has been updated," the man voiced out, rising from his seat. "You’re dismissed."

Damion was escorted out of the weird room, back to his dorm. He was a bit skeptical about how easy it was to be released, but he just shrugged it off as the Blessing of Luck kicking in to save his ass.

As soon as he left and was brought back to his dorm, he found out that the building was already fixed. In fact it looked much better compared to before.

He immediately went to bed and tried to catch some rest. The last night had been hectic after all.

In not more than an hour, he was back on his feets, ready to rumble. His constitution made it so that he could work for longer and sleep lesser, but still gain the reinvigoration an eight hour sleep would grant a mundane person.

It took no time for him to clean himself up, get to the Combat Class and settle down. On his way though, he overheard some conversations that sparked something in him.

"So they’ve come out of their hibernation," Damion muttered as he picked up his sword, testing it as usual.

He turned around and walked over to Hakuro, tuning his mind off distracting thoughts.

"The Blessing of Strength has only begun to show its perks," he said. "I need to learn to use it properly."

Hakuro stood before them, his eyes gleaming with intensity. "Today, you would be learning the technique, Phantom Slash," he said as he walked forward, unsheathing his cane-like sword.

"This might look easy, but trust me, it’s harder than it looks. Done wrongly, and it might even put you at a disadvantage,"

"I would demonstrate it once, and if you can’t replicate the footwork, we won’t proceed."

With that, Hakuro performed the Phantom Slash, his movements swift and carrying a strong intent. He took a step forward, his sword flashing in the light as it cut through the air.

The result was obvious. The decapitation of a dummy standing ahead.

Hakuro repeated the technique again, this time moving slower than before.

Kenzo’s gaze sharpened, and the silver light coming from his left eye intensified.

[Would you like to learn the skill, Phantom Slash?]

Damion smirked, acknowledging the power of the Blessing of Knowledge. It seemed like if he wasn’t intent on learning something, the Blessing of Knowledge and system wouldn’t interfere unless necessary.

The glow in Kenzo’s eyes dimmed, and Hakuro stopped after the fifth time showing the technique. He turned to them, and with a blank stare he ordered. "Do it."

Damion and Kenzo took a stance simultaneously, drawing their swords and sheathing it fluidly.

Damion channeled his concentration into the new skill he had acquired, and his Mana surged.

’Somehow, using Mana to activate the skill feels wrong,’ he said in his mind. ’But... fuck it!’

Damion unsheathed his blade in one smooth motion, cutting down just as fast as Kenzo.

A small slash was made, barely traveling forward a meter before dispersing like dust in a wind. Damion cursed under his breath.

Kenzo’s slash moved forward five meters, before also collapsing on itself.

Then suddenly a third slash streaked past them and landed on a dummy ahead, cleaving it into two unequal halves.

Damion creased his brows, and Kenzo frowned.

Hakuro was clearly standing in front, and hadn’t moved. Also, their attacks had dissolved before doing any noticeable damage, so where had the third slash come from?

They spun around, and to their surprise, found a girl standing behind them, her hands akimbo.

Damion’s creased brows scrunched up more, morphing into a deep frown. For some reason he felt bad vibes coming from this girl with weird green scales on her body, and the evil grin on her face only made him feel more apprehensive.
