Chapter 92: Shadow, Blade and Lightning

The sounds of sharpening blades intensified, and Kenzo’s energy poured out of his body, converging into two, floating, silver long swords by his sides.

The two long swords hovered in place, their designs appearing beautiful and flawless.

The torrent of red Draconic and Demonic flames raging around it created a scary picturesque in the eyes of Kaiden.

To him, he was being attacked by ’Demons’ while trying to escape, and although he didn’t know why, he knew he had to escape with his life—and also the life of the bargaining chip his father had asked him to bring back to him.

The importance of Matilda to his father eluded him. His father had always been secretive and mysterious, but this trait seemed to have been taken to another level in recent times.

There was nothing about Matilda that Kaiden thought could be useful to his family, so why?

’I shouldn’t question him,’ Kaiden thought, his lightning beginning to spark and run over his body. ’He said I should bring that Aspasia girl too, so I would do just that and return. It can’t be that hard.’

Hardly had these thoughts fully formed when he took a step back with a powerful bang, his body blurring as lightning was left lingering in his former spot.

He turned into a streak of energy and destruction, the jungle fauna parting before his destructive element.

Kaiden prided himself in having superior speed to any of his peers. He had also built his fighting style around it, making him the fastest of the first-years.

What he didn’t expect though, was for Wolves, with Yellow eyes burning with black flames and a body letting out the same black flames, to suddenly block his path, crossing in front and snarling at him.

Kaiden frowned.

If it wasn’t for Matilda slung over his shoulder, he could have dealt with them easily, but since his hands were tied, he could only fight with as much power as he could output.

The change in the wolves looks hadn’t escaped Kaiden’s senses, and he knew something was wrong.

His danger sense screamed at him to dodge, and he did just that, diving to the side.

Alas, dodging to the side was futile. As long as he was close to the ground, the shadows there could reach him.

Damion pushed his imagination to his limit, his Mana surging majestically and triggering the shadows to respond to his command.

Hands formed from the shadows around, rose from the ground and grabbed Kaiden along with Matilda.

Kaiden’s grip tightened when he felt the pull, and he subconsciously pushed his ability.

Dense, thick bolts of lightning danced around his body, merging and scattering around to destroy the shadow hands holding unto him.

Damion felt his control slipping as more and more of his Mana was drained, with nothing to show for it.

His eyes blazed with concentration, sweat rolling down his face, but he still didn’t achieve his aim.

It was now left to Kenzo to play his part.

The Wolves were destroyed one after another, their bodies exploding upon contact with the lightning bolts.

They were weak, weaker than Damion wanted to admit. Their numbers made up for their lack in quality though, and they slowed Kaiden down enough while he was distracted by Damion’s shadow hands.

The distance between Kenzo and Kaiden wasn’t that much to begin with.

Kaiden had gone far, and considering the little time he had to sprint before he was stalled by the Shadow Puppets, he had crossed quite a distance, but Kenzo was by no means slow either.

The distance was closed instantaneously, Kenzo having the weird idea to ride on his conjured long sword like a surfboard.

His speed was greater that way, and as soon as he reached Kaiden, he jumped, cleaving downwards, avoiding the shoulder his sister was placed on and going for the other.

Kaiden took a step to the side, evading swiftly without wasting any movements.

With the body over his shoulder, it would have been comical to fight had it not been a life and death situation.

Damion reappeared from a shadow not far from the battle, and he watched from the sidelines, his gaze trained on Kenzo and Kaiden’s body movements.

Teamwork... Something teacher Hakuro had always told them about.

Winning, regardless of your strength... Another thing teacher Hakuro had hammered into their heads.

Plans and tactics spun from his various experiences and imaginations in his head. The cogs in his mind shook, rattling as he came up with an idea.

And then he scratched the idea.

Teamwork... Winning regardless of your strength.

He only needed to follow Kenzo’s body movements, blend in with the surroundings like the assassin-cum-warrior that he was, then find the perfect chance to deal a decisive blow.

Kaiden was strong. Strong enough to fight two powered up Lesser Dragons while protecting someone at the same time, but could he defeat their teamwork?

Calling Kaiden crazy was an understatement. If it was anyone else, they probably would have abandoned the body on their shoulder and ran for their life, but Kaiden was committed.

He was intent on protecting the body at all cost, and this further triggered Damion, pulling him into rage.

’Focus,’ he chastised himself. There was a flash of killing intent in his eyes again, and Dragon’s Authority pressed down on Kaiden’s shoulder, slowing him down.

A blow to his lightning coated arms sent him reeling back, and a drop of blood escaped the crack in his lightning armor before it was zapped into steam by a stray bolt.

"There!" Damion thought, his aura spiking up for a split second.

He moved just as Kaiden took a step forward to counterattack, and Nyx formed into a scythe.

There was a strong pulse of Mana from the weapon as it exploded forth.

Mana and fire literally exploded from the intersection between the blade and the polearm, boosting it forward and almost leading to a catastrophic event.

The scythe whistled through the air cleanly, nearly faster than Damion could control.

There was a look of shock on Kaiden’s face, before he sneered, and continued with his counterattack against Kenzo.

Both Lesser Dragons were forced to watch out for anything after that weird reaction from Kaiden, and they got their answer soon enough.

The lightning running over Kaiden’s body was controlled by him. There were many properties of lightning, and one of them was its speed.

It was destructive too, but also creative—if you knew what you were doing.

Another aspect or property of lightning was its Electromagnetism.

It could be used as a minor form of Telekinesis if one was skilled enough.

Kaiden, though, didn’t seem like his Electromagnetism was strong enough to make a difference and push back the approaching scythe...

Until a sudden force exploded from his body, whipping everyone off their feets and flinging them back, Matilda included.

"Play time’s over, I’ve had enough of this shit!"
