Even If I'm Reborn as a Cute Dragon Girl, I Will Still Make a Harem-Chapter 102Book 6: : Caught Off Guard (part 2)
Lilith felt as if she’d been struck by lightning.
The news hit her so hard she had to draw a sharp breath. No, one wasn’t enough… another! It was only then that her brain finally rebooted from the crash caused by sheer shock.
“W-W-W-What… what did you just say?”
“Ugh, stop playing.” Lesiah shot her a reproachful look. “Don’t make me repeat something like that, okay?”
“N-No… no, I mean… how could… how could I…” Lilith stammered incoherently before finally bursting into non-existent tears.
“I didn’t even have the *tool*! How could I possibly…”
“So, you’re trying to dodge responsibility now?”
Lesiah’s coy smile vanished in an instant. From somewhere, she pulled out a gleaming cleaver and waved it lazily in front of Lilith’s face.
“Well, I can understand why. People panic when they hear news like this. It’s a rite of passage, right?”
*N-N-No, that doesn’t sound like you understand at all! You look like you’re about to cut me in half if I say something wrong next!*
“Um… let’s talk through this calmly. Something like this needs proof, right? You can’t just say it’s mine. I mean, I’m still innocent!”
“Proof? Isn’t this enough?” Lesiah pointed at her belly.
Lilith’s gaze followed and froze.
That belly was huge and perfectly round! She looked like she was ready to deliver at any moment now!
*Fine… It’s clear that… No! That’s impossible! She still had a slender waist when I snaked my arm around her earlier! There’s no way a belly can grow that fast! She’s totally lying!*
“Looks like you’re determined to deny everything.” Lesiah sighed dramatically, wiping away imaginary tears.
“I guess I’ve no choice, then. I’ll just stuff you into an urn and show you to the baby after she’s born—*Look, that’s Daddy.*”
“I told you, it’s got nothing to do with me!”
*And what kind of urn is that supposed to be? The one for ashes?!*
Before Lilith could say more, a sharp whistle sliced through the air.
A flash of silver gleamed beneath the streetlight. The cleaver came down, aiming straight for her neck.
“Holy s̲h̲i̲t̲…! She’s serious!”
Lilith had never moved so fast in her life. Her instincts screamed, and she rolled away, barely dodging the blade.
“Why did you dodge, Lilith? Do you hate me?” Lesiah asked, sounding genuinely hurt.
*If I hadn’t dodged, I’d be dead already!*
Lilith wanted to scream that, but Lesiah didn’t give her the chance. The cleaver swung again, faster and fiercer than before.
Lilith tumbled, rolled, and dove headfirst into the darkness.
For once, she was grateful for the dark. No matter how skilled Lesiah was, she couldn’t possibly hit what she couldn’t see.
“Lilith, why do you always break my heart?”
The mournful cry echoed behind her, sending chills down her spine.
Lilith glanced back and saw a faint light was blooming in the dark. It was a lantern. Lesiah had somehow found a lantern and was using it to chase her down.
“Lilith, stop running away! Let’s just talk, okay? We haven’t even named the baby yet. What should we call her? Lis? Lidoth? Lizith? Come on out, Lilith. You should be the one choosing the name!”
*Yeah, right! I bet you’d rather talk to me when I’m inside a cremation urn!*
Still, Lilith felt a tiny wave of relief. The lantern’s light only covered a small area. There was no way Lesiah could find her with that.
But just as she let out a breath, everything seemed to turn bright around her.
Of course, she wasn’t glowing. Lesiah’s lantern glow suddenly concentrated into a blinding beam, shining on Lilith like a spotlight.
From within the shadows, Lesiah grinned. “Found you, Lilith~ Are you happy?”
“Not at all!” Lilith howled, spinning awkwardly to escape the spotlight. But no matter where she ran, the light followed her like a homing beacon.
Lesiah was getting closer.
“I don’t want to play anymore!” Lilith sobbed.
Just as despair began to creep in, a hand suddenly reached out from the darkness and pulled her aside.
“Who?!” she yelped.
A slender finger pressed gently against her lips.
“Shh. Don’t speak.”
Lilith blinked in agreement.
In the darkness, footsteps drew near. The blinding light of a lantern swept back and forth, searching restlessly. Yet it seemed to lose its target, blocked by a thin veil of shadow.
“Lilith… where are you? Why did you leave me… Lilith…”
The weeping figure finally vanished into the distance after her unsuccessful hunt.
Lilith let out a long sigh of relief. “Phew. Thank you. If it weren’t for you…”
She turned, ready to thank her savior—then froze.
“Ciel?” Lilith blinked at the familiar figure. Memories surged back like a tide, and she instinctively took a cautious step back.
“You’re… not pregnant and expecting me to take responsibility, are you?”
“What are you talking about?” Ciel Hesse gave her a puzzled look. “Who’s pregnant?”
“No… No one at all.” Lilith waved her hands quickly, forcing a strained smile. “Just… pretend I was talking in my sleep, okay?”
“Hm?” Ciel eyed her suspiciously. “You sure?”
“Of… of course.”
Lilith’s eyes darted around as she tried to whistle nonchalantly. “Would I lie to you?”
“Good.” Ciel nodded, satisfied.
Lilith exhaled in relief.
*Thank goodness. If she hadn’t bought that, the next thing flying my way might’ve been another cleaver.*
“Stop spacing out. Come help me,” Ciel called out.
“Help you with what?”
“Pack these into that box.”
Ciel pointed to a large box in the corner.
“Oh.” Lilith nodded. It was only then did she finally take in her surroundings.
They were inside something like a tent. It was cramped and dim, but not pitch-black like the world outside. In the faint light, she could make out vague shapes and outlines.
Ciel was pulling out pieces of clothing, folding and tucking them neatly into a suitcase.
*Are we going on a trip?*
Lilith wondered, but obediently helped Ciel pack.
Before long, everything was neatly arranged. Ciel wiped the sweat from her forehead, then waved her hand. The tent collapsed inward, shrinking until it became a bag. She slung it over her shoulders with practiced ease.
“Alright, let’s go,” she said.
“Go? As in… us?” Lilith blinked. “Where exactly are we going?”
“Didn’t we already decide that?”
Ciel grabbed the suitcase with one hand and Lilith’s wrist with the other, giving her no chance to pull away.
Before Lilith knew it, they were standing in a vast, open expanse.
A deafening hum tore through the silence, forcing Lilith to cover her ears with her hands.
As the noise faded, brilliant lights flickered to life in front of her.
“T-That’s…”
Lilith’s eyes widened at the colossal structure floating on the ocean.
“What’s that?”
“A steamship,” Ciel replied, giving her a curious look. “Don’t tell me you don’t recognize one?”
“No, I know what it is… but why is there one here?”
“Lilith, are you feeling alright?” Ciel leaned in, pressing a cool hand to her forehead. “Are you running a fever? How could you forget what day it is?”
“What day it is…?” A bad feeling suddenly welled up in Lilith’s heart.
“Today is…” Ciel raised their clasped hands, then pointed toward the massive steamship.
“Today is the day you and I… elope.”
