Chapter 47: Deja Vu

After the succubus and blood knights ventured around the Noctyriss City, eating in a high-end restaurant, they finally arrived in the duel arena.

The arena was a colossal circular structure of black obsidian and crimson stone.

Its outer walls were smooth, towering, and engraved with historical duel records. ,

There were seven massive gates surrounding the structure, each aligning with the seven infernal crowns—painted on a massive banner atop.

Blood-red lantern pylons mark the approach roads.

From afar, it looked like a sunken crown embedded in the city.

When Myles saw the structure, he was in awe. It appeared terrifying but at the same time leaving him awestruck.

They followed the path leading to the gate signifying the Crown of Velvet.

The Guardian of Scarlet Bond led the group, with Rose on her side, having a casual conversation with her.

When they passed the gate, they entered a wide crimson vestibule—a transitional entry space between an outside door and the main interior of the building.

There were Common Demons, working as officials, talking with a group of incubus.

When the succubus and the blood knights arrived, they quickly caught the attention of the incubus and the officials, causing their conversation to be interrupted.

The leader of the incubus glanced at the Guardian of Scarlet Bond and smiled.

"You’re finally here, Guardian of Scarlet Bond."

The Guardian of Scarlet Bond took out her hand fan and fanned on her face.

However, the moment the Guardian of Scarlet Bond took out her fan, the incubus lowered his gaze.

The Guardian of Scarlet Bond chuckled and said, "It seems even your artifact can’t protect against your generational trauma, Guardian of Obsidian Descent."

The other incubus, when they heard what she said, was infuriated. Even then, they refrained from showing their temper as they were already trained to resist against the succubus’ provocation.

The incubus has a humanoid appearance, albeit, their shadow was acting independently. Furthermore, the Guardian of Obsidian Descent seemed to be accustomed to the succubus’ behavior that his facial expression hadn’t changed.

He said, "As far as I know, there are only three who passed the entrance examination, correct?"

The Guardian of Scarlet Bond replied, "Well, as your source has pointed out, there are only three of them. But, there is an additional. She’s exempted, you see."

The Guardian of Obsidian Descent frowned.

He still didn’t dare to raise his eyes and asked, "What do you mean?"

The Guardian of Scarlet Bond said, "Royal Academy golden letter. Have you become senile you didn’t know it existed?"

The incubus were surprised but, at the same time, were incensed that their instructors were insulted. However, the Guardian of Obsidian Descent seems to have grown to her behavior as his emotion did not budge at all.

He said, "I wonder, whose lady is that?"

"Who else has it currently?" The Guardian of Scarlet Bond shrugged. "It’s the Lady of Chains and Whisphered Vows."

The Guardian of Obsidian Descent was surprised. He thought. Isn’t her daughter known to be ignoble?

The Guardian of Obsidian Descent contemplated deeply. What does this supposed to mean? Is she trying to risk her daughter’s reputation just so she could attend the Royal Academy? I thought she would use the golden letter wisely.

The Guardian of Scarlet Bond noticed his silence and said in an amused tone, "What are you thinking about? I’m just saying there are four of them. I supposed there are four of your batch too, right?"

The Guardian of Obsidian Descent nodded and halted contemplating. He replied, "It seems all my future students will get to fight with you."

The Guardian of Scarlet Bond said, "Exactly. To make it even more interesting, since you’re obviously trying to be dominant in terms of the number of students who passed the entrance exam, why won’t we settle this in this tradition?"

The Guardian of Obsidian Descent frowned. He asked, "What do you propose?"

The Guardian of Scarlet Bond chuckled. "Of course, through a life and death duel of one of our knights."

The Guardian of Obsidian Descent fell silent. Inwardly, he was appalled. The last time the life and death duel between knights occurred was when the Lady of Chains and Whisphered Vows confidently provoked them.

In the end, the most potential Shadowbind Knight during that time was defeated by her Blood Knight. The incubus learned their lesson then, but strangely, after that year, there were no succubus who dared to propose a life and death duel against their Shadowbind Knight.

That was then they realized the Lady of Chains and Whisphered Vows’ Blood Knight was simply a different breed, who could keep up with his master’s monstrous potential.

The Guardian of Obsidian Descent was silent for a while before asking, "I supposed it’s the Lady of Chains and Whisphered Vows daughter’s Blood Knights?"

The Guardian of Scarlet Bond grinned. "Deja vu?"

The Guardian of Obsidian Descent failed to respond. After all, he witnessed himself, how the incubus, who had the most potential during their batch, was heartbroken when his Shadowbind Knight was defeated.

Although it was a hard fought victory for Lady of Chains and Whisphered Vows’ Blood Knight, and his elder brother should have accepted his defeat, the fact that his Shadowbind Knight, raised with massive investment from his family, died before enrolling in the Royal Academy made it difficult for him to attend and inevitably dropped out.

He became a criminal later on, who was murdered by his own father.

The Guardian of Obsidian Descent witnessed with his own eyes how his elder brother, who would have graduated as the Lady of Chains and Whisphered Vows’ biggest rival, began his downfall because of a life and death duel.

He was about to refuse when a succubus behind him shouted, "Bring it on!"

He was shocked, quickly turning around and discovered it was the new succubus, who had the best potential among them.

He was speechless.

The Guardian of Scarlet Bond’s voice echoed in his head.

This couldn’t be anymore deja vu.
