Chapter 844: Chapter 844: Fix Things

Yu Lin’s eyes flickered.

He suddenly remembered something... something from when he was young. Maybe 21 or 22 years old.

He had taken Ruo Lan to meet his father, Old Master Yu.

And Old Master Yu had been furious.

He had said, "If you keep seeing this woman, I’ll throw you out. I’ll take away your position as heir."

At the time, Yu Lin had thought it was just a threat. So he left with Ruo Lan, thinking things would calm down later.

But they didn’t.

Old Master Yu didn’t take him back. Not even once. He was completely serious.

Yu Lin panicked. He had no choice. He asked Ruo Lan to hide somewhere far, while he married a woman his father picked.

From then on, he lived a double life.

He secretly met Ruo Lan every few years. They would meet in different cities, always quietly. Ruo Lan always came when he called, no matter where or when.

Then, one year, during one of their secret meetups... Ruo Lan got into a terrible accident.

She almost lost the ability to have children.

That night, Yu Lin felt like a monster. He was angry at his father, at himself, at the world.

He swore to himself that he would never love the woman he married. Never.

That’s why he treated Mrs. Yu so coldly all these years.

Now, hearing Ruo Lan’s voice on the phone, he suddenly felt like maybe... maybe he had been right.

Maybe Ruo Lan really was the one who deserved his love.

So what if he had slept with Mrs. Yu for twenty years? So what if they had shared thirty years of marriage?

None of that mattered... right?

Looking down at the divorce papers, he tightened his grip and said softly,

"Don’t worry, Ruo Lan. I’ll do everything I can to make you my official wife."

On the other end, Ruo Lan gasped softly.

"...Really?"

Her voice was filled with surprise and hope.

But then she quickly added in a sweet, pitiful tone,

"But don’t pressure yourself too much. I understand... even if you can’t give me the title, I’ll still stay by your side.

You’re working so hard. I know you’re a good man, Yu Lin. I just want you to be happy. Even a little happiness falling into your pocket—I want you to have it."

Yu Lin felt his chest tighten.

No one had said anything like that to him in months. His children ignored him. His wife had left him. But Ruo Lan... she was still here.

He nodded and said gently, "Take care of yourself. I’ll call you soon."

Then he hung up the phone.

The room was silent.

After a moment, Yu Lin picked up the pen. His hands shook.

And then... he signed the divorce papers.

It was done.

It was painful, but he had made his choice.

He mailed the papers back the same day and immediately started making arrangements for Ruo Lan to return to the city.

A few days later, she arrived at Yu Mansion.

It was her first time seeing it.

The mansion was huge, beautifully designed, with clean white walls, golden light fixtures, and a soft scent of fresh flowers in the air.

Ruo Lan stood at the entrance, staring.

Her heart twisted with envy... and anger.

’Why didn’t he bring me here earlier? Why did I have to wait so long? I’m already over fifty... I’ve wasted so many years on this man.’

She clenched her fists.

’If I had married someone else... I could’ve had a proper title. A real family. A life with pride.’

But then she looked up at the beautiful mansion again.

’It’s still not too late.’

Now, she could finally get the title.

She could have the mansion.

With that hopeful thought in her heart, Ruo Lan stepped into the mansion.

The doors opened quietly, and the scent of polished wood and fresh flowers filled her nose.

The floor sparkled, the chandeliers above shimmered like stars, and everything looked so new and expensive that it made her heart ache with jealousy.

But she quickly pushed that feeling down and put on her sweetest smile.

The moment Yu Lin saw her, his face lit up. He rushed over and hugged her tightly like a man who had just found shelter from a storm.

"I did it, Ruo Lan," he whispered against her ear. "We’re finally free. I’m divorced now."

Ruo Lan blinked, stunned. She hadn’t expected things to move this fast. She had prepared to act innocent, to play the long game, to twist things slowly. But now... it was already done?

Still hugging him, she widened her eyes and said softly,

"Yu Lin... I didn’t think it would happen so soon. You must have gone through a lot... thirty years with someone isn’t easy to forget."

Her voice was full of kindness and care.

Yu Lin sighed and leaned into her. "You’re right... It was hard. So hard, Ruo Lan. I wasn’t even sure I was doing the right thing. My heart felt heavy. I kept wondering... Am I making a mistake?"

Ruo Lan’s smile didn’t fade... but inside, her heart turned cold like ice.

’What did you just say, Yu Lin? A mistake? Are you actually crying over that woman after everything I did for you?’

She felt her fingers curl slightly against his back. She wanted to push him away and scream.

But she didn’t.

Instead, she gently patted his back like a caring partner and said in a soft, loving voice, "It’s okay, Yu Lin. You did the right thing. Now you’re free... no more pressure, no more pretending. Let it all go. Let her go. Let your past go. Let’s just live a simple, peaceful life from now on."

Yu Lin pulled back and looked at her with tired eyes.

Then he said quietly, "I’m thinking... I might not be able to handle Yu Corporation anymore. It’s too much. Maybe I should give it back to Yu Sicong."

The moment Ruo Lan heard that, her heart jumped—and not in a good way.

"No!" she said quickly, then caught herself. She softened her voice. "I mean... I don’t think that’s a good idea."

Yu Lin looked at her, confused. "Why not?"

Ruo Lan gave him a concerned, thoughtful look.

"Sicong already knows what you did to him. He knows you tried to frame him... If he becomes CEO again, he’ll never forgive you.

He’ll make your life miserable. And... what if he doesn’t even give you a penny to survive on?"

Yu Lin went quiet.

She watched his expression carefully. He was thinking. Doubting.

Good.

Ruo Lan kept smiling, but her thoughts were sharp and angry.

’Originally, I agreed to let Yu Sicong become CEO because once my sister finishes her revenge and gets rid of Yu Holea, all this wealth will come to me and Yumi. But now, I hardly think that Yu Sicong will die... then everything I’ve done for the last thirty years... will mean nothing.’

She couldn’t allow that.

So she leaned forward a little and said sweetly,

"I just worry about you, Yu Lin. What if you lose everything? Can you really survive that?"

Yu Lin nodded slowly. "You’re right. I’ll... I’ll think about it."

"Good," Ruo Lan said gently. "Just don’t rush into anything."

He nodded and led her inside.

As soon as she entered the main hallway, her eyes lit up.

’This mansion... It’s mine now. Mine. I won’t let anyone take it from me.’

She walked around slowly, observing the rooms, the expensive furniture, and the paintings on the walls.

Then she looked up the stairs and said with a soft giggle, "Which one is your bedroom, Yu Lin?"

He pointed. "That one... but Ruo Lan, I don’t think we should sleep in the same room right now. It’s still... too soon."

She blinked. "Too soon?"

He looked away awkwardly. "I’ll ask the servants to... clear out Mrs. Yu’s things first. I don’t think it’s right to let you stay there yet."

That was the last thing Ruo Lan wanted to hear.

Her heart sank. Her hands clenched by her side.

’You still care about her? Even after signing the divorce papers? You’re still thinking of that woman?’

But once again, she forced a smile on her face.

"You’re right," she said softly. "I understand completely. Let’s take it slow."

Then she picked the guest bedroom, one far away from Yu Lin’s.

As soon as the door closed behind her, her smile vanished.

She stood in the middle of the room, her fists clenched, her teeth biting into her lip.

’You still think of her... even now. You b*stard!’

That evening, the grand dining room was quiet.

Yu Lin sat at the head of the long table, slowly cutting his food, his thoughts heavy.

Ruo Lan sat nearby, picking at her plate. The candles flickered, casting soft shadows across the table.

Suddenly, Ruo Lan spoke up gently,

"Yu Lin... if you really plan to hand over Yu Corporation to Sicong, maybe... you should fix things with your children first."
