Chapter 121: City Lord, Alderic

The Red Cliff City bustles with activity and grandeur. Its enormous walls could not hide the sounds of activity from within as the group finally saw the entrance of the city at the same moment when the sun set at the end of the horizon.

Albert looked back to where they came from as he wiped away the sweat and trepidation that rolled down his neck. "Where should we go? Miss Erika?" he politely asked Erika, who was inside the carriage that he was driving.

There was a moment of silence before Erika’s voice, one without emotion, echoed in Albert’s ears.

"Go directly to the City Lord’s manor."

Albert nodded his head and immediately ordered the Wind Horses to move forward. This was also for the best of them as a mercenary group, as they could only claim their reward if they brought Erika and the others directly to the Lord’s manor.

In truth, he also wanted to deal with the situation as soon as possible. Mercenaries can risk their lives if money were involved.

However, the risk meant that they still had a chance of survival and winning, but the assassin that attacked yesterday was clearly out of their league. If they still continued to become busybodies to help Erika and the Red Family, who knew how many Elite Rank Summoners they would have to face in the future?

He decided to leave Blazing City for such existence; why would he meddle in this matter if such existence were involved?

Deep inside, Albert was just happy that they finally reached Red Cliff City and would be able to move away from the group as soon as possible.

The City Lord’s manor was located at the heart of the city.

It was a heavily guarded place that no one could enter easily.

The City Lord was not only the most influential person in the city; they were also the most powerful in terms of wealth and authority.

The Red Family’s Alderic was the current city lord of Red Cliff City.

He was a person who was much stronger than Marcel, Erika’s father.

It was rumored that Alderic was not far from breaking through to Master Summoner Rank with his Silver Grade Grimoire.

When the carriage arrived near the Lord’s manor, everyone immediately disembarked the carriage as city guards wearing armor slowly approached them.

Erika went forward and explained the situation to them after she showed them the Red Family emblem.

The guards nodded their heads as one of them ran inside the manor to inform the City Lord, Alderic.

After a while, all of them were guided inside the manor to meet the City Lord.

In a spacious garden inside the manor, Erika and the others stood in front of a man with slicked-back red hair.

The man was wearing a red shirt and brown pants and leaned on an ordinary chair. He was Alderic Red, the current City Lord of Red Cliff City.

He was already around fifty years old, with a little bit of a wrinkle on his face, but he still looked fit and strong.

Two strong guards wearing a red coat imbued with the Red Family emblem stood beside him respectfully. Both of them also looked strong and must be ranked Martial Artists like Murphy. Behind them were also another set of guards, ready to defend the City Lord if anything goes awry.

"You guys should take a seat," Alderic stated courteously with a gesture of his hands.

Seats were already provided by the guards for them earlier.

However, none of them decided to sit but instead looked at each other.

At the next moment, Erika took a step forward and stated, "There’s no need for that, City Lord. We are just here to report our status and also to give these gentlemen the necessary rewards for leading us here."

Alderic paused his actions as he noticed Erika’s change of attitude.

She was still calling him uncle a few days ago when she asked about matters regarding demonized beasts. Why was she acting so formal and distant now?

He thought for a moment and guessed that she might just be stressed because of what she had just experienced.

"Very well," he said, nodding his head and gesturing for one of the guards beside him to come forward and give Albert and the others the rewards for helping a Red Family member in distress.

Albert went forward to receive it with a huge smile on his face. He thanked Alderic respectfully and went back to the crowd to bid farewell. He especially went near Miguel and promised that if he needed help, he could look for the Red Devils, and they would gladly come to help.

The Red Devils were then escorted out by the guards, leaving behind Erika and the others inside the manor.

It seemed that none of them wanted to move out either, as they waited for what Erika or Mister Journey would do.

Erika looked around for a moment before stating, "City Lord, the manor seemed big. Can you let us stay here for a few days while we wait for the main branch’s instructions? Who knew if the bandits were still lurking around to kidnap us once more? "

Previously, Erika was very respectful and chose to rent an inn for everyone to stay in. She was afraid of disturbing the peace in the lord’s manor and thought that it was much better to rent an inn.

However, it was apparent that she no longer has the same respect for the name Red Family as she used to.

Alderic thought for a moment and thought that it was not a problem. He was also curious and wanted to know what had happened to them when they were captured by the bandits and how they managed to get out.

He did not believe that it was the Red Devils who saved them.

He told one of the guards to lead them to the guest quarters and let them rest. He also reminded them to come out later for a sumptuous dinner.

After they left his view, he gestured for the guard on his right side to come forward and say, "Bring me the messenger responsible for this matter."
