Last Ruler Of The Empty Throne-Chapter 98: Halfway through
’I will actually die’
There was a saying, when one was on the verge of death, time slows down and you are able to recall all your memories or something like forcing yourself to not die, like in the novels.
However, Jon wasn’t like that,
He actually asked himself the question, ’Do I want to die?’
Maybe because of his ’Composure’ trait or his ’Brilliant mind’ skill, but he wasn’t scared in the face of it. He had taken the lives of others, it would be unreasonable for him to not have also expected his death as at any time.
He thought of the things he would leave behind and strangely nothing he had recently experienced came to him. It was a memory from before he entered university, it was his childhood friend. ’Ah’ he didn’t know why, but he had totally forgotten about that person ever since this world fell.
He had thought Alexa was the only one left among those close to him, however, it seemed he forgot one. Had that person survived? How was that person doing now? He asked himself this questions as he fell, but it was too late.
There was nothing he could do at this point, he was already late. All he did at this point was close his eyes to accept his fate.
But unfortunately or not for him, today wasn’t the day he died.
Before his body hit the ground, a shadow came over him.
And there, he saw the most beautiful woman he had ever seen carry him and carefully drop him.
"Y-You..." Amelia’s eyes were still wide open. She couldn’t count the number of times she had been surprised from just this place, she couldn’t even talk properly.
And when she looked down at Jon, his face was just blank. As if he had already died, if it wasn’t for the sign of life she was sensing from him she would have considered him dead.
"Kuhh..." Jon coughed black and blood all over his body as he tried to speak.
"Don’t try to speak." Amelia gritted her teeth as she held him. It was frustrating for her because this sort of injury was easy for her to deal with but she had to follow the rules to the dot.
She had a lot of questions for him, and she was also curious about this place. And she had a feeling this boy would have a lot of influence in it.
The power he displayed was enough to destroy even a higher level second realm monster and he used that as a first realm. And that wasn’t even all, he used ’Will’. That was the most shocking thing after the object on the ground she had seen. Then, he didn’t even fear death. He had even accepted it. He was just a normal person until recently, so who wouldn’t be curious about his situation.
Without even knowing, Jon smiled.
"Eh?" Amelia’s eyes widened for what felt like the thousandth time. She didn’t understand, what could possibly make him smile in this kind of situation.
"How can you smile in this situation" She couldn’t help but ask.
"I-" As Jon was about to reply, the messages began assaulting him,
[YOUR FOUNDATION...]
[YOUR *** LEVEL HAS...]
[YOUR LEVEL HAS...]
[YOU HAVE OBTAINED...]
[DIVINE JUGDEMENT....]
[YOU HAVE FORCIBLY...]
[...]
However, he didn’t look at it, at this moment he felt a sudden relieve he hadn’t felt in a while, he didn’t know the cause, however it felt good.
"You know, I wanted to die." He eventually said. At first he thought he would be happy with just dying, but until he escaped it, he didn’t know he wanted to live.
"What...you were about to break your promise." She countered.
"Which promise," Jon asked, his life slowly draining away. He didn’t have enough mana to activate his regeneration. And, he felt, he would need all his mana to heal this kind of injury.
And unfortunately, he didn’t have that kind of time.
"You will answer any of my questions" Amelia reminded.
"Well, I can do that, but..." Jon nudged his head as if saying ’take a look at my situation’.
"Sigh...you know I can’t help you."
"Huh? Why?" Jon was confused, how couldn’t she help him. The amount of pain he was currently was almost abnormal, but he thought it was over since Amelia had come. But, her saying she couldn’t help suddenly made the pain increase.
’Urgh...’ However, he forced himself to endure it.
"As you probably already know, I am not from here. And following that rule, I cannot influence the world directly." Amelia explained and lifted her gaze.
’So, I die in the end.’ Jon sighed and lifted his gaze to the sky.
Then, he had a sudden thought, shouldn’t she ask him her question before it became too late.
And she suddenly said,
"There are two people are running this way."
Jon’s eyes immediately widened.
He just remembered, he didn’t come here alone. He was suddenly happy that he left them behind, if not, they would have also been carried in the explosion and it would have been worse.
"Judging with your expression, you know them. Well, I can’t help you but I can only say this. Your bones..." Her voice trailed as she shook her head and disappeared.
’So it’s that bad...sigh.’ He sighed again as he began to think of what to do.
He was getting weaker and didn’t know how long he could stay like this before he died.
Thankfully, he wasn’t bleeding out anywhere, but was burnt. It would have hastened the process if he was bleeding. But, that didn’t even begin to describe the internal damage he had.
’So, this is what pain is.’ The pain he was feeling now was almost indescribable. It was like having that headache that could make one go crazy all over his body, and he couldn’t then touch his body because all of it was broken.
It was so much, it numbed his whole body. It was so immediate and intense, he became numb to it. The pain kept him from fainting, and it also kept his brain thinking.
’So bones,’ he was thinking of how he could heal his bones with the help of Alexa and Gar’al. He wouldn’t make it if they took him to meet Victoria and he didn’t think she could even heal all his injuries or remain alive till then.
’Think, Think...’ he then turned his head to the side. And, he didn’t see any zombie in the vicinity. ’Wait, zombie’
Then, he remembered. Even though the probability of finding an orb was so little, with this number of zombies, there would certainly be a skill that could help him.
And thankfully, since all the zombies were cleared, it would reduce the search time since the area was empty.
And as soon as he finished his thoughts,
"JON, JON, JON." Alexa just kept screaming his name.
’Oh, they arrived.’ Jon felt a bit relieved and ironically, it hastened his death process.
"Here." However, Gar’al had already sensed his location. And they began moving to his direction.
When they reached him,
Gar’al’s eyes wavered and became stiff,
One could now imagine Alexa’s expression, "No, No..." She rushed to his side and tried to lift him up.
"S-Stop" Weakly, Jon’s voice rang out.
"We need to hurry back to the camp." Alexa began screaming and looked at Gar’al as if to carry him. She was already thinking of Victoria healing him with her skill.
And Gar’al who had not looked away from Jon saw the look he was giving him.
And as if he understood, he nodded and stopped Alexa.
"W-WHAT ARE YOU DOING?" Alexa was clearly not in her right senses. She would even kill Gar’al if he tried anything funny.
"I think, we should listen to him." He pointed at Jon who seemed like he had something to say.
"T-That..." Alexa too seeing the look stopped. She was still thinking of how they could get him to the camp safely and on time.
Suddenly, little whyte came into the view,
’Huh!’ Jon weakly gazed at the little puppy in surprise. ’Why does look so tired, no when did it come.’
As he wondering, that was when little whyte approached him. It looked like it was sad and tired but it didn’t stop moving and started licking around Jon.
’The pain,’ it became obvious almost immediately, little whyte had been alleviating his pain all this while.
The truth was, he was meant to have collapsed from the pain, however, little Whyte had taken its time to reduce the pain by a large margin. It was to the extent he became numb to the pain.
And thanks to that, he could speak clearly one more time, "Orbs, Floor, Bones" And his eyes deemed further.
"Jon..." Alexa called out,
However, Gar’al stopped her and said, "We need to figure it out fast."
Now the two had the time to look around and saw the black expanse of charred land. Places where forests, monsters, zombies, buildings and maybe even people were located, was now like a bomb testing site.
However, that wasn’t really in their minds.
It was as if they understood what he was talking about after seeing the situation and immediately ran over and started checking for orbs.
Seeing his body, he needed a bone related skill and something that can stabilize him.
In the countless orbs scattered around, they had begun checking.
They found treasures, skills that could make them interested. However, they kept searching for only one thing.
After twenty minutes of searching, Jon’s eyes deemed again. His sight left and his thought process even stopped.
He didn’t even know where he was at that moment. He wasn’t in the real world, nor his mind world. He couldn’t feel, think, smell and see. He couldn’t even describe the feeling at all.
The scythe of death had already on his neck and pushing its way through, and he didn’t resist. Or rather, he couldn’t.
Five more minutes then passed,
His body had long gone, irresponsive and the scythe of death was half way through his head. It was then,
"I’ve found it." Alexa shouted and ran towards Jon without waiting.
"I also found something." Gar’al also stood seconds later and approached.
