Magus Supremacy-Chapter 757: Mage Exchange
Chapter 757
"I knew my senses were not dulled yet. You really were a mage." A voice could be heard speaking as Grey finally reappeared four metres away from Gunlag.
Gunlag was just as confused by the sudden interruption as he began twisting his head around, searching for the source of the voice.
Grey lifted an eyebrow slightly as his ears perked up at the phrase the unknown person had used.
’Mage.’
"... And a really, really strong one at that. How strong? I don’t know yet, and I intend to find out."
’Above.’
Grey swiftly lifted his head, eyes narrowing as he saw a... lightning bolt?
No. It was a human wrapped in crackling lightning, and within the blink of an eye, the figure crashed down between him and Gunlag.
The ground trembled.
The man stood there, cloak fluttering violently as lightning crawled over his body, his hood still covering his face.
Grey raised an eyebrow at the sight.
’Wait. This is that mysterious fellow from earlier. I knew there was something sketchy about him. To think he was a mage, eh? And a lightning one at that?’
Lightning continued to crackle fiercely around the man for a few seconds before dying down almost immediately.
Accidentally, when he crashed down earlier, stray sparks had flown outward, jolting the unconscious men from Gunlag’s squad awake with sharp spasms.
"Who are you? And how dare you save him from me?!" Gunlag finally barked aloud, clenching his sword tighter as a deep frown etched itself onto his face.
"...."
A few seconds of silence passed before the mysterious man suddenly burst into loud laughter.
"Saved him from you?! Hahaha~ what a pleasant joke I’ve heard in a long time."
"Huh?" Gunlag muttered, clearly thrown off.
The man laughed for a few moments longer before adding,
"Fool. I just saved you from him. With what I sensed, you were seconds away from meeting your maker if I hadn’t intervened on time."
Grey casually tucked his hands into his pockets at those words.
"Why are you speaking like you know me?"
The mysterious man did not acknowledge Grey’s words at all. He did not even turn around.
Yet, he still replied.
"I don’t know you. But I’m old enough to sense a monster even from miles away. I knew I sensed a mage among the crowd gathered earlier, but for some reason, I couldn’t pinpoint your aura."
Grey’s eyes narrowed slightly.
’And I couldn’t sense his aura either. How did he conceal his power even from me? Does he have an artifact helping him do that?’ Grey wondered inwardly.
Despite how powerful the man in front of him felt, Grey remained strangely calm.
The mysterious man continued speaking.
"And I’m still shocked by what I can sense. Not only can you use magic, you can also wield Ki? That makes you a... warrior mage. A hybrid? The same thing he wanted to create? Now, I’m intrigued."
’He?’ Grey frowned inwardly. ’What is he talking about?’
"Now... I want to know if you are a good mage or not before I delete you from the surface of the earth. So... who are you?" the mysterious man demanded, pointing his palm directly at Grey.
Lightning crackled violently around his hand, radiating deadly intent.
"Wait! Delete me?" Grey burst into pure, unhinged laughter, as if he had just heard the funniest joke in existence.
"... Do you even know who I am? Wait. That’s right. You don’t. Haha~"
The mysterious man showed no emotion for several seconds as he stared at the warrior mage.
Then, he let out a quiet sigh.
"Wrong answer."
Bang—!
A concentrated beam of lightning erupted at breakneck speed.
Grey was still laughing, eyes closed, when he sensed the attack racing straight toward him.
Swinging his hand upward with his palm opened to the sky, a massive earth wall rose out of the ground in a single second.
The beam of lightning tore through the wall as if it were nothing more than parchment before continuing onward.
The only thing was that... Grey was nowhere to be seen as the attack smashed into the ground, burning a hole straight through it.
"It isn’t good to threaten me. Do you know the number of people who have threatened me? Shall I tell you where they are?" Grey’s voice whispered from behind the mysterious man.
Without turning around, a long pole of lightning screamed down from the sky like a divine sword, aimed at cleaving Grey in two.
As usual, the Supreme Magus teleported out of view.
BANG—!
The pole tore through the ground like a hot knife cutting through butter.
A gust of wind blasted outward with fierce intensity, bringing with it sparks of lightning, while Gunlag simply stood there with a stupefied expression frozen on his face.
"You know? I’m not taking you seriously yet because I want to know who you truly are and whether you are with them." The mysterious man spoke calmly.
Grey appeared three metres away, wearing a calm, nonchalant expression.
"Wind magic: Sky Cutter." 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮
’Wind magic? I thought he used earth magic?’
Swoooosh—!
The wind howled loudly as a massive horizontal wind slash burst from Grey’s palms and rocketed toward the man at neck-breaking speed.
Bang—!
The man blitzed away with blazing speed, dodging the attack that now headed toward Gunlag unrestricted.
"Shit." The warrior swiftly lifted his sword, preparing to clash with the incoming strike.
When—
"I would advise you to dodge that attack instead. Fool." Grey suddenly uttered with a mocking tone.
For some reason, Gunlag followed the advice, attempting to sidestep.
Even then, the attack grazed his armour, chipping a massive portion off before tearing through the air and cleaving a massive trench that stretched for metres on end.
Gunlag’s heart began pounding violently as he stared at the destruction.
’Wh-What would have happened to me if I hadn’t dodged? I-I would have been split in two?’
"You are a dual-elementalist? Who are you really?!" The mysterious man demanded, his voice rising sharply.
"It’s rude to ask for someone’s identity when you’re hiding behind a stupid hood!" Grey countered fiercely.
Then he added calmly,
"... Now why don’t you do us a favour and show us your face."
Swooosh—!
Grey hurled the dagger in his hand with all his might, causing it to break through the sound barrier.
A lightning sword instantly materialised in the man’s hand as he lifted it and slammed the dagger away, a loud boom echoing across the terrain.
Unfortunately, that was a feint.
Grey was already directly in front of him, Clara firmly gripped in his hand.
Swinging his sword downward, the mysterious man’s eyes widened beneath the cloak.
But with the aid of the lightning element, he leaned backward, dodging the slash by the skin of his teeth.
A violent gust of wind still blasted outward, smashing into the hood on his head and flinging it off, sending the cloak flying from his body instantly.
Leaping away to avoid a counterattack, Grey tilted his head as he examined the man’s face for any sign of familiarity.
There was none until—
"Wait. It’s you?!" Gunlag shouted in recognition, staring with his mouth agape.
"What is the vice clan leader of the Waterfall Clan from the Aetherian faction doing here?!"
