Sunlight filtered through the forest, casting scattered beams onto the ancient giant.
A towering, oppressive figure stood silently not far from the gathered Pokémon.
Regirock, the Rock Peak Pokémon.
Its body was composed entirely of gray and orange rocks, with a distinctive "H"-shaped pattern of seven orange dots on its head. It had two thick, rocky arms with massive gray boulders for hands, while its shoulders were adorned with towering orange spikes, connected to its arms by smaller rock fragments.
The torso was a columnar stone with an uneven surface, with two orange patches—one on its left chest and another above its right leg. Its legs were short and sturdy, and three orange spikes protruded from its back.
According to legend, Regirock was one of the Pokémon created by Regigigas, crystallized from the energy of rocks.
Like Hikaru, all the Pokémon present—whether it was Lilligant, Petilil, or the Voltorb and Electrode—became extremely tense!
"Ma-ma-ru!"
The Hisuian Electrode recognized the stone giant before them. It was the one that had caused disturbances in the forest not long ago!
Regirock had been digging up stones and moving materials, intruding into many Pokémon habitats. Fortunately, it didn't seem interested in those habitats themselves—once it took the stones it needed, it would leave without hostility unless attacked first.
Doublade translated the Hisuian Electrode's words for Hikaru, who continued to stare at the rock giant.
Just as the tablets had foretold, the legendary giant had truly arrived!
Moreover, back when they had visited the Rock Peak Ruins, they had already discovered that Regirock was no longer inside.
And now, Hikaru finally understood the meaning behind the missing stones in the ruins.
Oh no. He had taken quite a few stones from the ruins. Even though it was only a small portion, would this legendary giant be angry because of it?
At least he still had the Celebi stone carving, which reduced the probability of being attacked. But would it work against a Legendary Pokémon?
From a type advantage perspective, Rock-type Pokémon were defensively weak. However, the legendary giant's strength was not to be underestimated. Every region had its own legendary giants, except perhaps Johto, which seemed to lack such a legend.
In Kanto, the Tree of Beginning housed three legendary giants, which might be Kanto's own trio. Because they had never interacted with humans, they were never sealed away and had continued living within the Tree of Beginning to this day.

"Johto's giants? Or Sinnoh's giants?"
In ancient times, the people of Johto and Sinnoh had interacted. They lived in Sinnoh and built numerous temples, so it was possible that three legendary giants had followed the Johto people here and lived alongside the Sinnoh inhabitants.
"Regi..."
Regirock stood motionless like a statue. Its entire rocky body was covered in cracks and scars, as if it had just been through several battles.
Then, it raised its right arm toward Hikaru.
Hikaru thought it was about to attack, and Doublade immediately moved forward, preparing to intercept!
Here it comes!
Steel-types had an advantage against Rock-types. Even though Regirock was a Legendary Pokémon... at the very least, they should be able to hold out for a few rounds, right?
But the expected attack never came.
Instead, a beautiful flower was embedded in Regirock's raised right arm.
"Regi—"
Regirock let out a low sound, and at that moment, Hikaru suddenly felt the Pokémon's thoughts.
It was the knowledge of ancient crystals, "The Heart of Crystal," allowing him to communicate with Pokémon from the past.
In his perception, the entire forest fell into silence. The towering giant stood bathed in sunlight, lifting its right hand to offer a bouquet of flowers.
And within its heart, it repeated a single thought:
"If I give you this flower, we are friends. Don't worry, I mean no harm! Flowers are a symbol of friendship."
"The legendary giant... wants to be friends with me?"
"No hostility?"
Hikaru thought back to the damaged Rock Peak Ruins and suddenly had an astonishing realization.
Could it be that this legendary giant had been searching for him all this time?!
Was that possible?!
"Regi—"
Seeing Hikaru hesitate, Regirock let out another call, emphasizing once again that it meant no harm.
It even seemed... excited.
"Finally found you..."
That was the message it conveyed.
Hikaru took a step forward. Doublade, having vaguely understood Regirock's words, remained vigilant but still followed. Lilligant, nervous, also bounced closer.
The three of them stood before the giant.
Hikaru accepted the flower—it was truly beautiful.
This scene, of an ancient giant offering a flower to a human, gave Hikaru a strong sense of déjà vu from Laputa: Castle in the Sky.
And that flower was—
[Rare Material: Gracidea Flower]
[Description: On birthdays or commemorative occasions, it is sometimes bundled into bouquets as a symbol of gratitude.]
[Crafting Acquired: 1]
[Special Crop Cultivation (C+): Improves cultivation techniques for rare crops, enhancing their fragrance and significantly increasing Pokémon friendship levels.]
Hikaru stared in a daze at the flower, while Regirock lowered its arm.
Despite its heavy, rock-like body, Hikaru noticed deep gashes on its surface—cracks splitting the stone apart. Regirock seemed to notice his concern but didn't explain immediately.
Instead, it removed an orange-red stone from its chest.
Because that area was already orange, Hikaru hadn't realized at first that it had been patched up.
Regirock then handed the stone to Lilligant.
"Wowah?!"
Lilligant jumped in surprise, unsure what the giant was trying to do. Seeing its hesitation, Regirock's "H" symbol flickered, before offering the stone to Hikaru instead.
It was a gift.
Regirock had witnessed the recent battle.
It saw Lilligant fighting to protect its tribe, understanding what it meant to guard something precious. That was admirable, so this stone was meant to help Lilligant grow stronger.
Realizing this, Hikaru hurriedly accepted the orange stone.
[Rare Material: Sun Stone]
[Description: A mystical stone that triggers evolution in certain Pokémon, radiating a solar glow.]
[Crafting Acquired: 1]
[Environmental Engraving (C+): Allows for intricate carvings in caves and temples, creating calming environments for Pokémon. Can shape unique "regional habitats" by combining different types of soil.]
"This is a Sun Stone!"
Although Sun Stones could be mined underground, in the wild, only Solrock typically carried them.
Some even speculated that Sun Stones were extraterrestrial meteors, just like Moon Stones.
As a Legendary Pokémon, Regirock repaired itself using rocks it found, so unearthing rare stones like this was entirely reasonable!
The "H" symbol on Regirock's face flickered again.
"Sha... sha-li... sha..." It uttered a different tone.
Regirock trusted Hikaru, for he had been blessed by the guardian of the forest.
"A craftsman blessed by the Forest Guardian..." Hikaru understood and was momentarily stunned.
Regirock was making a request.
It had truly come looking for him!
Upon awakening, it saw the ruined shrine and recognized it.
A thousand years ago, the people of Sinnoh had built that shrine for Celebi.
Anyone capable of restoring it must also be capable of repairing the ruined temple!
"So, you want me to help restore your temple?"
Hikaru had never done temple restoration before, but his newly acquired crafting techniques might make it possible.
Ancient Architecture + Ruins Engraving + Environmental Engraving could potentially fully recreate ancient structures!
Regirock then spoke again:
"Regi—"
It assured Hikaru that it wouldn't let him go empty-handed. The temple contained many high-quality stones and materials, and if restored, all the extra materials would be his!
Since moving massive stone slabs was no issue for Regirock, Hikaru only needed to handle the carvings!
"You sought me out so earnestly, and I even took materials from your temple... I have no reason to refuse!"
"Alright! I'll give it a try—but you'll have to wait a few days. I'm expecting a friend."
Hikaru agreed to Regirock's request.
"Before that..." Hikaru glanced at Regirock's damaged body.
"If you don't mind... let me repair your body first?"
The "H" symbol flickered rapidly.
"Regi—?"
Repairing its body?
Ah... long ago, someone had helped it with this before.
It had been so long...
