Mommy Wolf: Raise A Cub, Claimed By His Beast Daddy-Chapter 16: Preparation
Jojo was relieved that his savior didn’t blame him. After all, he was used to being obedient to his father, so he naturally felt the urge to be obedient to his savior too.
However, Jojo noticed her uneasiness and asked, "W-what’s wrong? Jojo did a good job, right? Why do you look so sad?"
"You did a good job," Sisi smiled thinly, realizing that her uneasiness must’ve shown on her face. "I’m just worried about what we should do next. We can’t stay here, and we can’t go to the city to ask for refuge. Your fur is too striking, people will try to take you away."
"I-I don’t like other humans..." Jojo muttered as he nuzzled his cheek against her neck. "That evil fat man was scary. I also saw a hunter in the forest before. They have those weapons, and they kill other animals easily."
Sisi knew the "weapon" Jojo mentioned must’ve been a revolver or maybe a rifle. It made sense that Jojo feared humans if the only ones he had ever met, aside from her, were a hunter and Mr. Piker.
"Besides, my Daddy told me to avoid humans at all costs! They’re dangerous, they’ll take me away and sell me!" Jojo added.
"Well, he’s not wrong," Sisi said with a soft smile as she caressed his head.
Jojo lifted his head, staring at her with a hopeful gaze. "Then let’s go to the forest. Don’t worry, Jojo will protect you, my savior!"
Sisi couldn’t help chuckling, and Jojo immediately took offense. "Jojo is strong! Didn’t you see what I did to that evil fat man? And uhm... I can hunt too!"
"Oh? Really? You can hunt?"
"Yes! Squirrels, moles, uhm... slow rabbits, and maybe baby foxes!" Jojo boasted. He held the confidence of an alpha provider, just like his father, but Sisi found it both cute and funny. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶
It didn’t matter in the end. Sisi already knew the answer in her heart: they had no choice but to go to Roc Forest.
She was simply worried. Roc Forest held countless unknown dangers, and they were just a defenseless woman and a little wolf beastman. She feared she wouldn’t be able to protect him when danger struck again.
Sisi hid her uneasiness, and Jojo, believing she had made up her mind, jumped out of her embrace once more and looked around the ruined house.
In awe, he turned to her and asked, "Hey, hey! Tell me how you did that!"
"Do what?"
"All this!" Jojo exclaimed excitedly as he circled her, tail wagging. "You were so strong! You went whoosh! Whuuz! Wah! Bang! Raaah! And then the ground shook and big plants came out everywhere! It was so cool!"
Sisi looked around and smiled. She honestly had no idea what had just happened. All she remembered was the extreme hatred that had poured out of her. For the first time in her life, she had felt such overwhelming anger, and it erupted like a volcano.
Then came the surge of power from within. She could sense every living plant around her, both above and underground. They responded to her will, yet she hadn’t given them exact instructions.
She simply wished, and the plants acted on their own.
Sisi looked down. She saw the giant vine on the floor and the smaller one that had caught Jojo’s cage earlier.
She tried to move the big vine, but it didn’t budge.
But when she looked at the smaller one, the vine actually moved and tickled Jojo’s ears.
"Wha— that tickles! Ahahaha! Wuuuu!" Jojo rolled around, covering his ears with his arms, so the vine tickled his belly instead.
In the end, Jojo was tickled until he became mad, and Sisi finally stopped her mischief.
The little wolf cub looked up at her with a wronged expression, as if he had been bullied. "Meanie..."
"Sorry, sorry, it was just a little... amusing," Sisi laughed.
Feeling more at ease, Sisi knew they had to prepare before going to the forest.
She searched through the rubble, followed by Jojo, who asked curiously, "What are you doing? Aren’t we going to the forest?"
"We have to prepare supplies," Sisi said as she picked up her leather pouch. She collected the medicines first, then one set of clothes. Since she worked on the farm, all her clothes were long tunics with bodices and tall boots for walking through mud.
She never felt restricted wearing them, so she assumed they would work fine in the forest.
Unfortunately, she couldn’t bring more than one set as her pouch wasn’t big enough. She also needed to make room for a padded jacket.
It was already autumn, and winter would come soon. Without something warm, she would freeze.
She also packed matches, strapped a dagger to her waist, and carried a flask for water.
Once she was ready, she took all the meat from the overturned fridge, piled it onto a plate, and set it in front of Jojo.
Jojo stared at the heap of raw beef. "What is this?"
"Your breakfast, lunch, and dinner until we can find something else to eat. This beef will rot quickly, so we can’t bring it into the forest. It’s better for you to eat it all now," Sisi said.
"But that’s too much!" Jojo shook his head. "Uhm, why don’t you eat it with me?"
"I can’t—"
Sisi was about to say she couldn’t eat raw meat. But seeing the amount of meat, she realized it would be wasteful not to eat any.
Besides, she needed all the energy she could get before heading into the dangerous forest.
After thinking it over, she nodded. "Alright then, I’ll cook some for myself."
Fortunately, even though the kitchen was destroyed, the cooking pot remained intact. So she made a fire, and boiled the meat into a simple beef broth.
She used her newfound power to toss Mr. Piker’s corpse out of the house. Then, sat down on the ground near the destroyed kitchen, enjoying her late dinner with Jojo on her lap.
