Chapter 75: Forgotten Memories ?

A few hours later, "ugh," Dennis opened his eyes. He blinked, looking at the white ceiling that he recognized all too well; he was in the school infirmary. Then he raised his arm over his eyes to shield them from the bright glare of the lights.

"No more dreams, huh... I slept as soundly as a log," Dennis muttered in his heart.

"Whoa... the sleeping prince finally woke up."

Dennis turned to see Nicole, the school nurse and health teacher, sitting in a chair next to the bed. She was leaning back, her eyes glued to the smartphone screen in her hand.

"Oh... hello, Ms. Nicole," Dennis greeted, getting up and sitting on the bed.

"Back here again, are you? Didn’t get enough sleep last night?" Nicole asked casually, still looking at her smartphone and not turning to look at Dennis at all.

"Um... yeah, I had a lot on my mind last night, haha," Dennis answered while rubbing the back of his head and laughing awkwardly.

"Hmm... really? Or were you playing around with that hot wife of yours?" Nicole asked casually, still without turning to look at Dennis.

"What are you talking about? Of course not, we went straight to sleep," Dennis answered quickly, his face turning red with embarrassment.

"I’m just joking. Just rest for now; it’s almost time for the lunch break. You can go back to class after lunch, it’s not worth going now," Nicole replied without looking, but she was smiling and sounded calm.

Dennis looked at the wall clock and saw that it was indeed almost time for the lunch break.

"Yes, ma’am. Thanks," Dennis replied.

Then Dennis turned to look around, searching for someone. Nicole glanced at Dennis for a moment, then returned her gaze to her smartphone screen.

"Relax. Your wife told me earlier that she would be back at lunchtime," Nicole said casually.

"Oh... ok. Thanks again, ma’am," Dennis replied.

Then Dennis noticed Nicole’s stomach, which looked a bit more bloated than the last time he had seen it. He observed that her stomach was larger than the rest of her body, and it was clearly visible because her nurse’s uniform was a bit tight on her.

"Did you get fatter, ma’am?" Dennis asked innocently.

Immediately, Nicole turned to look at Dennis so sharply it was as if her head were floating to Dennis. Then she glared at him and stood up. "Gyuut," she immediately wrapped her arm around Dennis’s neck, trapping his head in her armpit, and then rubbed his head with her fist.

"Talking to a woman like that is impolite, you know," Nicole said jokingly, as she was smiling.

"Ouch... sorry, ma’am! It’s just that it’s really obvious," Dennis said, struggling slightly since he knew Nicole was only joking.

"I’m pregnant, it’s been three months already. Last month when you were here, it wasn’t visible yet," Nicole said while releasing Dennis.

"Oh... really? Congratulations, ma’am," Dennis replied, holding his head with both hands.

"Thank you, this is my first pregnancy," Nicole replied.

Then Nicole twirled in front of Dennis and intentionally showed off her pregnant belly to him cheerfully; it was very clear that Nicole was very happy with her pregnancy. Dennis just watched his health teacher while smiling and pretending to clap.

"This teacher is really like a little kid, hehe," Dennis muttered in his heart.

But suddenly Nicole went silent and stared at Dennis seriously. Of course, Dennis was startled and stared back at her intently, swallowing hard. Nicole leaned her beautiful face close to Dennis’s, bringing it right in front of him and making Dennis lean back a little to get some distance. Dennis could feel Nicole’s breath getting closer past his head and could smell her fragrant scent because they were so close.

"You know, the father of this baby is you," Nicole said slowly beside Dennis’s head, right into his ear.

"Blam," Dennis’s head immediately felt as if it had been struck by lightning; his eyes widened and his mouth hung open. His mind went blank instantly and did a quick reboot. After he came back to his senses, his rational thoughts kicked in and he began to calculate. It was clearly impossible for Nicole to be pregnant because of him, but seeing Nicole’s serious face earlier, Dennis couldn’t help but think about it anyway.

It was the first time a woman had ever told him she was pregnant by him, and it felt like a lightning strike that made his heart race. Then he turned to look at Nicole and remained silent. The lunch bell rang while Dennis and Nicole were still quiet, just staring at each other, until finally, Dennis opened his mouth to counter Nicole’s statement.

"That’s impossible. I rarely come to the infirmary and we’ve never done anything," Dennis said, defending himself.

"Hahaha... just look at your face, you really are funny... I was only teasing you. The father of this baby is obviously my husband, you silly boy. But honestly, I like looking at you because you’re handsome and hot now. I hope my baby turns out like you," Nicole said, rubbing her stomach and looking cheerful.

"Are you sure the baby is a boy, ma’am?" Dennis asked, sighing in relief.

"Hmm... if it’s a boy, I hope he’s like you, and if it’s a girl, I hope she’s like your wife," Nicole answered, stroking her belly.

"Oh... I hope that comes true then," Dennis replied, smiling. "If she’s like Daisy, that means having seven personalities; can you handle that?" Dennis muttered in his heart.

"Anyway, I’m heading out now; the bell already rang. I’m going to eat in the teacher’s lounge pantry. Just relax here, bye-bye," Nicole replied.

"Ok, ma’am. Take it easy," Dennis replied cheerfully.

Nicole stepped out of the cubicle, then the sound of the door opening and closing was heard. Dennis lay back down with both hands behind his head and stared at the ceiling. He was still thinking about the dream that felt so real, to the point where he could feel the sensation with his heart pounding. It looked like a fragment of memory from his past when he was still a child—something he no longer remembered and had forgotten long ago. Then Dennis smiled and snorted.

"That’s impossible. I really don’t remember my childhood until I was 6 years old because that’s when I started playing with Bella, but it’s normal to forget, isn’t it? Is it really possible I was kidnapped like that? Don’t joke around," Dennis muttered inside his head while closing his eyes.

[....]

"Huh... Sami? Is there something you want to say?" Dennis asked.

[....]

"Hey Sami... answer me," Dennis replied.

[Nothing, Master. I have no intention of saying anything.]

"Hmm... I see. In that case, let me ask: what was that I just experienced?" Dennis replied in his head.

[....]

"Hey... what’s with you? Why are you being so quiet?" Dennis asked, starting to feel annoyed.

[Perhaps Master has been watching too many movies, and what you watched played back in your mind with you as the main character.]

"Hmm... that’s possible too," Dennis muttered while thinking.

Then, the sound of the door opening was heard, and not long after, it closed again. Footsteps approached, and someone pulled back the cubicle curtain. Dennis immediately smiled because he vividly recognized the scent of the person who had come to see him. He heard the person sit down beside him, and then he began to feel their breath as it seemed the person was bringing their face close to his.

"Honey... are you awake?" Daisy asked softly, seeing that Dennis still had his eyes closed.

"I am. I just woke up, and I feel refreshed now," Dennis answered, turning to look at Daisy, who was sitting beside him carrying a tote bag filled with lunch.

"Thank goodness then. Let’s just eat here," Daisy said while taking the lunchboxes out of her tote bag.

Dennis got up and took the lunchbox Daisy gave him, then Daisy, having already taken out her own lunchbox, placed her tote bag on the floor.

"Is it really okay to eat in infirmary like this?" Dennis asked.

"It’s fine, I already asked Ms. Nicole. I happened to run into her when I was leaving the student council room just as she was entering the teacher’s lounge," Daisy answered reassuringly.

"Oh okay then. Enjoy your meal," Dennis replied.

"You too, enjoy your meal," Daisy replied.

The two of them began opening their lunchboxes and started eating the food they had cooked together early that morning before leaving. Dennis glanced at his wife, Daisy, who was eating while looking at the smartphone beside her, then he looked back at his lunchbox. Something was still bothering him because Sami’s answer wasn’t satisfying; he felt as if there were several feelings he didn’t realize were inside his heart and that he didn’t understand. He glanced at Daisy again, then tried to brush away his doubts.

"Maybe it’s because I just heard Daisy’s story last night and thought about it all night, so I got influenced and hoped I experienced something tragic just like her so we would be a match. I think that’s all it is; I shouldn’t think like that for Daisy’s sake," Dennis muttered in his heart, even though that answer felt more like it was unlocking something within him, and he felt guilty for trying to deny the strange feelings in his heart, added to the fact that his gut seemed to be screaming, "there is something wrong with me."
