Chapter 76: Competition Match Day

A few days later, at the start of the following week, Dennis, Daisy, Gary, Olivia, Jason, and Kimberly skipped school with Steve’s permission. They were allowed to watch a sparring match at the hunter guild arena in the southern region—a dark area where many dimensional rifts appeared.

This was the place where military school graduates would work as hunters and live in the military complex located there. After traveling in Gary’s car, they arrived at a building shaped like a colosseum, though not quite as large and covered by a metal dome.

Dennis looked up, observing the building in front of him closely and with full admiration because he had only just seen an arena located right next to the tall building that served as the hunter guild headquarters, or the Emerald City military command center.

"Wow... so this is the hunter guild arena usually used for training and hunter matches," Dennis muttered in his heart.

"Hey, come on man, we have to get inside, otherwise it’ll start before we get there," Gary said.

"Oh... right, let’s go," Dennis replied.

"Is this your first time here?" Daisy asked.

"Yeah, have you been here before?" Dennis asked.

"Hmm... when I was working back then... but not often," Daisy answered.

"Oh... back when you were working, huh," Dennis replied, knowing exactly what kind of work all the personalities inside Daisy’s body used to do.

They all went inside and walked through a long corridor toward the spectator seats located above. Dennis turned to look at Jason and Kimberly, who were being quiet; Jason looked calm, but Kimberly seemed very tense and a bit restless. Then he also noticed Olivia walking while holding onto Gary’s arm; her face also looked tense, to the point where her jaw looked tight from the side.

Then Dennis turned to glance at his wife, who looked relaxed, not nearly as tense as Olivia and Kimberly. Dennis leaned in close to Daisy and lowered his head to whisper in her ear.

"Honey, what’s up with Kimberly and Olivia? Why do they look so tense?" Dennis asked in a whisper.

"They’re still mad at those girls from Willow, and of course, they’re hoping Sasha and Minji crush them," Daisy answered.

"Why are you so calm yourself?" Dennis asked in a confused whisper.

"I’m angry... but I believe in Sasha, Minji, and the others. I’m sure they’ll win. Besides, if that Natasha tries anything with you, I’ll take care of her," Daisy answered calmly.

As he studied Daisy’s face, which appeared calm and relaxed, Dennis finally realized that his wife wasn’t tense—she was simply ready to do whatever had to be done if everything went south. And there was a steadiness in her face, showing she wouldn’t change her mind, because her expression looked cold even though she was smiling; it actually made her look more terrifying than usual and sent a cold shiver crawling down Dennis’s spine.

"Don’t overdo it, okay," Dennis said.

"Relax, honey, I’ll try to hold myself back," Daisy replied with a smile, staring straight ahead.

They all began climbing the stairs to reach the seating area in the right wing that they had reserved. When they emerged, Dennis saw rows of seating that were quite vast, encircling the arena and tiered like a soccer stadium. It wasn’t completely empty; several teams were seated around the stadium. On the left wing, several senior hunters could be seen sitting in groups. On the right wing where Dennis was, several student teams from different schools across the city were visible. Suddenly, Jason grabbed Dennis’s shoulder and pointed toward a team sitting in the right wing, far from them.

"Look over there, man. Red Wind. They’re sitting right there," Jason said, pointing.

Dennis turned to look in the direction Jason pointed. He saw Sean sitting with his friends, scattered about carelessly with their feet up on the seats in front of them, looking completely disrespectful. Plus, they were so loud that Dennis could faintly hear their voices even from a distance.

"Huh... just leave them be," Dennis said.

"Seriously, they make my blood boil. I really want to bash those guys," Jason replied.

"Be patient. Let them laugh for now. Have you heard anything from Blake yet?" Dennis asked.

"Yeah, I already met with the detective investigating the case and Blake’s contact to give a statement. Plus, remember I took photos of my face after getting hit and Kimberly’s bruised arm from being pulled? I gave those to the detective as additional evidence," Jason answered furiously.

"Good. We’ll just wait for that annoying smirk of his to turn into endless tears," Dennis said.

"Hmm... but if you look closely, Sean is actually staying quiet; it’s just his friends who are being rowdy," Kimberly said, pointing toward the Red Wind team.

Dennis, Daisy, Gary, Olivia, and Jason turned to look at them once more, and it turned out Kimberly was right. Sean appeared to be sitting silently, even though his feet were also up on the seat in front of him, and his eyes were fixed straight ahead with a tense, smileless expression on his face.

"Maybe he already feels trouble coming his way. Blake said he’s targeting the father first, then him," Dennis said.

"Oh, I see," Kimberly replied.

"Yep, I heard him say that too; he said it right in front of me at the time," Daisy replied.

"I heard from my dad while he was talking to my mom; he said there’s actually a contracting company being investigated for some issues... I don’t really get it, but it might be his dad’s company," Gary muttered.

"My dad is handling the case, too. Blake’s people already reached out to my dad’s law firm," Olivia added.

"That’s great then. Now we just have to wait for karma to catch up to him, right?" Dennis said to Jason while grabbing his shoulder.

"You’re right, man. I don’t even need to get my hands dirty," Jason replied, finally calming down.

"Let’s sit down. The practice is about to start any minute now," Gary said.

They walked to the seats designated for their school as listed in the email. When they reached their row, the six of them saw Rika already sitting there, joined by a beautiful girl with blonde hair and green eyes. She wore no makeup, looking completely natural, and was dressed in the same school uniform, staring straight ahead at the arena without blinking.

Rika turned and saw the six of them, immediately waving them over. Dennis sat next to Daisy, Gary next to Olivia, and Jason next to Kimberly. All six turned to look at Rika, who was sitting right beside them.

"Who is she?" Gary asked Rika.

Rika immediately turned and called to the girl who was staring straight ahead, then whispered something to her. The girl turned to look at the six of them with a smile.

"Hi, you guys are the new school core team, right? My name is Elisa Taylor. I’m a senior, in the same class as Ivan, Sasha, Hyunjin, Minji, and Akira... I’m here to support my boyfriend, Brad," Elisa said.

The faces of Gary, Olivia, Dennis, Daisy, Jason, and Kimberly immediately went blank; their jaws dropped and their eyes widened after hearing Elisa’s introduction, causing Elisa to tilt her head with a smile, though her face was full of questions. Seeing her friends’ confusion, Rika spoke up immediately.

"Sasha introduced her to Brad and they clicked instantly, so yeah... they just started dating," Rika explained.

"I see... that was fast," Gary blurted out without a filter.

"Hush... nice to meet you, my name is Olivia and this is my husband, Gary," Olivia said, nudging Gary beside her while introducing herself and Gary to Elisa.

"Nice to meet you, I’m Daisy and this is my husband, Dennis," Daisy added, continuing the introductions for herself and Dennis.

"And I’m Kimberly, and this is my husband, Jason," Kimberly followed, introducing Jason as well.

"Nice to meet you all. I’ve already heard stories about you from Brad. Let’s watch together," Elisa replied with a smile and a friendly tone.

"Okay," everyone replied in unison, still trying to process what they had heard about Elisa, who looked so naturally beautiful—a far cry from Bella.

Then, a screen lowered from above and explained the joint training program, which was also being treated as a competition. There were three exercises the two teams would perform: first, teamwork against a rank-A Crawler in a simulation; second, a castle-style capture-the-flag match in a simulation; and third, a head-on, one-on-one fight to test their strength. All matches would be limited to one hour each.

They could see that the entire arena was surrounded by glass, similar to the mezzanine at their school, which would be used to broadcast the simulated matches. They also saw a glass-enclosed room on a deck above the arena, where teachers, hunter guild staff, and technicians operated the simulation. Dennis could see Steve standing there alongside Vanessa.

"So this match under the guise of joint training is actually very official; I hope Ivan and the others win and those girls from Willow lose big time," Dennis muttered in his head while glancing at Daisy beside him and holding her hand. She looked calm, but her hand felt cold and she wore a cynical smile with sharp eyes, ready to do whatever had to be done.
