No Substitutes for the Bigshots' Dream Girl Anymore!-Chapter 1908: Hayes Edwards Extra (65)
Hayes Edwards rarely encounters Grace Winter during morning school time, since the junior high school starts earlier than the elementary school, but today is one of those few times.
Grace Winter stands in the hallway, worried about the weather outside, holding an umbrella decorated with rabbit designs.
Such weather is indeed troubling; without the umbrella you’ll get wet, but with it, the wind might carry it away.
Grace Winter glanced at the time and finally decided to run out directly; after all, the distance between the school and the neighborhood is not far, if she’s quick, she’ll be there in a few minutes.
Just as she was about to dash into the rain, she felt a lightness on her back.
Her backpack was picked up by someone.
"Are you stupid?" Hayes Edwards looked at her disdainfully, "Don’t you know it’s raining?"
Grace Winter looked at him, the straps of her backpack pulled, and her hair blown messy by the wind, inexplicably looking a bit pitiful, "I’m rushing to open the school gate."
The sports commissioner who was responsible for opening the gate took leave, so she was asked to help for a few days.
Hayes Edwards looked at the weather outside; the wind was still strong, but the rain wasn’t heavy.
He reached out, took off his baseball cap, and put it on Grace Winter’s head, pressing it down with his hand, "Wear it, don’t take it off."
Grace Winter curiously reached out to touch it and asked him, "What about you?"
Hayes Edwards didn’t answer her, put the hood of his jacket on, "Alright, let’s go."
He stepped outside, and Grace Winter hurriedly followed his pace.
Probably disliking Grace Winter’s slow walk, after a few steps, Hayes Edwards stopped, reached out to grab her wrist, and explained, "Afraid you’ll be blown away by the wind."
Grace Winter obediently nodded, moved along with him; when he stopped, she stopped, when he walked, she walked.
After May passes, it’s time to prepare for the final exams.
The homeroom teacher said that this final exam would affect the last class assignment for junior high school.
There are nine classes in the whole grade; although there’s no explicit label for top class, parallel class, and lower class, everyone knows their own level and class level.
Since the start of junior high, there have been two class adjustments; the sixth class, where Hayes Edwards is, hasn’t changed much, each time just gaining or losing a couple of people.
Hayes Edwards’s grades have always been "stable."
Stable to the point that for him, this final class assignment exam was neither here nor there.
Little Fatty and Joy Hoffman had the same attitude.
The final exam results would be announced the day before the holiday starts, and the report cards still need to be taken back home for parental signatures.
The first-year semester requires exams in seven subjects, with the exam duration spanning three days.
Elementary school’s final exams come earlier than those of junior high, and so does the holiday.
On the first official day of vacation, Grace Winter ran to knock on the door of the Edwards’ house.
Father Edwards and Mother Edwards weren’t home; Hayes Edwards had just woken up, with messy hair, didn’t even glance, opened the door and turned back to walk into the room, "Go play by yourself, don’t bother me." 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂
Hayes Edwards had lots of toys, all sorts of blocks, models, Rubik’s cubes, stacked in the corner; when he didn’t want to play house with Grace Winter, he took them out to amuse her and distract her.
He did this at age five, and now at twelve, it’s the same.
Hayes Edwards hugged a pillow and directly lay on the sofa, eyes closed.
Grace Winter looked at the toys in the corner, then at Hayes Edwards on the sofa, still walked over, squatted down.
