Our Love Story: Hard to Guard Against the Sudden Love Strike-Chapter 400 - 379: The Forrester Group Chairman’s Wife
Sienna Thornton looked up and saw Simon Forrester still peeling shrimp, and in the blink of an eye, he’d peeled another one and placed it in her bowl.
She smiled and put one back in his bowl, whispering in a voice only the two of them could hear, "You should eat more."
Hearing this, Simon Forrester wiped his hands with a napkin, leaned in to her ear, and softly said, "So good, I’ll reward you when we get back."
Understanding his implication immediately from the context, Sienna’s face flushed, and she pinched his thigh under the table.
He laughed and pinned down her mischievous hand.
Their interaction, completely ignoring those around them, made Melinda Linton and Auntie King smile like doting aunts.
Auntie King complimented Melinda Linton, "I must say, Linton, you’re so blessed! Your daughter and son-in-law are not only capable but also so filial, and they love each other dearly. You’ll soon have a grandchild! You should take good care of yourself so you can take care of your grandson in the future!"
These words made Melinda Linton, whose eyes had often been dull, light up.
Seeing how a few words from Auntie King had cheered up Melinda Linton, Sienna Thornton felt a bit better about her mood, which had been weighed down by Melinda Linton’s health concerns.
.
After settling Melinda Linton and Auntie King, Sienna Thornton and Simon Forrester sat for a short while before leaving.
As soon as the elevator door closed, Simon Forrester wrapped his arm around Sienna Thornton’s waist and leaned in for a seafood-flavored kiss.
Sienna Thornton pushed him away, saying, "Your mouth tastes like shrimp, it’s disgusting!"
"Then I’ll have a piece of gum." As he spoke, he reached into the pocket of his trousers and really took out a small pink candy.
Sienna sneaked a peek, "Strawberry flavor?"
Simon Forrester chuckled muffledly, "Yes."
"Next time, buy mint ones, I’m tired of strawberry already."
"Alright." With that said, a strawberry-flavored kiss followed.
...
After exiting the elevator, Sienna Thornton asked, "Did you drive?"
"No." 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂
"Then how did you get here?"
Simon Forrester wrapped his arm over her shoulder as they walked to the car park, "I wanted to go home with you, so I had my assistant drop me off."
Sienna Thornton thought he was troublesome and said disdainfully, "It’s just a half-hour drive, why go through the trouble of driving separately?"
By then, she had already opened the car door and sat in the driver’s seat.
Simon Forrester followed in, sat in the passenger seat, and suddenly kissed her on the corner of her mouth as she started the car.
After the kiss, he contentedly reclined the passenger seat, lying back like an old man, "You’ll be busy in the future, so I want to treasure every moment I have with you."
Sienna Thornton was amused and exasperated, "No matter how busy I am, I still have to come home every night to sleep, right?"
.
Once they got home, Simon Forrester showered and put their dirty clothes into the washing machine. When he came out to the living room, intending to watch some evening news, he suddenly noticed a few sheets of paper on the table.
He picked them up and realized they were labor agreements Sienna Thornton had signed with Auntie King, along with Auntie King’s ID and bank card copies.
He secretly stashed the agreements and documents in the study.
After Sienna Thornton finished her shower, she intended to gather up those agreements, but seeing the empty table, she asked Simon Forrester, who was lounging on the sofa with his legs sprawled out, "Did you see the agreements on the table?"
"I did."
Sienna Thornton sighed in relief, walked over, and patted his chest that was only covered by a T-shirt, "Where did you put them? Hurry and give them to me."
Simon Forrester didn’t move, his eyes still on the TV, "I put them away. From now on, I’ll pay Auntie King’s salary."
Understanding what he meant, Sienna Thornton was both amused and annoyed, nudging his body with her foot, "Move over a bit, I want to sit."
Just as she said that, Simon Forrester suddenly sat up, spread his arms, and pulled her into his embrace, lying down together.
Nestled in his arms, she softened her voice and pretended to order him, "Be good, hand over the agreements."
"You’re paying Auntie King twenty thousand a month, which is more than your own salary."
"Don’t I still have savings?"
"Savings are for buying houses and land, do people just spend their savings? That would be living beyond one’s means."
This hit a sore spot for Sienna Thornton, and she fell silent, pondering for a moment. After a while, she wrapped her arms around Simon Forrester’s neck and kissed his cheek, "Alright then! You’ll pay Auntie King’s salary, and in the future, I’ll fund our house and land purchases!"
Having achieved his aim, Simon Forrester kissed her back triumphantly, "So good!"
.
Sienna Thornton didn’t sleep well all night and got up before dawn the next day.
As she moved around the room, Simon Forrester was awakened by the noise and got up too.
Seeing her standing seriously in front of the dressing mirror, not saying a word, just looking at herself in the mirror, Simon Forrester walked over, sleepily asking, "Why are you not sleeping, what are you doing?"
"Do you think I should be more serious or friendly at the Treaty and Law Department?"
Only then did Simon Forrester realize that she was worried about how to win over her subordinates as a newly appointed director.
He stood behind her, enveloping her short-statured figure, which only reached his chin, in his arms, resting his chin on her fluffy head, and laughed, "Do whatever feels comfortable for you, don’t overthink it, focus on your work, and naturally, you’ll win them over if you achieve results."
Sienna Thornton furrowed her brows, "But what if I can’t achieve results?"
Simon Forrester chuckled, "Then you’ll just have to come home and take care of the kids."
Sienna Thornton was struck with frustration, "Then I’d better work hard to achieve results!"
.
Simon Forrester then went out to make breakfast while Sienna Thornton chose a straightforward black wool suit with a white silk collar trimmed on one side.
To make herself appear more approachable and non-threatening, she applied a very light nude makeup, styled her hair in a loose Korean ponytail, and parted her long bangs three-to-seven.
She rummaged through her handbag cabinet and finally found the classic MK commuter bag she had bought for under 400 dollars when she graduated in the United States.
The heels were from Staccato, a pair costing over a thousand RMB.
Once she was equipped, she left the closet.
Simon Forrester was at the bar heating up milk. When he saw her approach, he scanned her from head to toe several times, laughing, "Where did you dig up such a vintage outfit, shoes, and bag?"
Sienna Thornton walked to the dining table, sat down, and sighed, "Luckily, I didn’t throw them away before, otherwise I would’ve had nothing to wear to work today."
"Are you worried you don’t have clothes?"
Sienna Thornton took a bite of her sandwich, swallowed, and said, "It’s different now than when I worked at the law firm. When I was my own boss, I was afraid of dressing poorly and being looked down upon by clients, so I wore money on my body. Now that I’m working at a state unit, it’s better to be low-key, or else people might secretly accuse me of taking bribes—how tragic would that be?"
"Bribes?" Simon Forrester brought over two cups of hot milk, handed one to her, and sat across from her, chuckling dismissively, "The wife of the chairman of the Forrester Group needs to take bribes?"
