Our Love Story: Hard to Guard Against the Sudden Love Strike-Chapter 426 - 405: Discussing the Marriage
Sienna Thornton arrived early at Melinda Linton’s place. Melinda was arranging flowers in the living room when she saw Sienna come in, smiled warmly, and said, "Annie, you’re here? Come and help me see if these flowers look good like this."
"Sure." Sienna walked over, "They look pretty good."
She noticed Melinda was wearing a bright red silk blouse with large orange flowers printed on it and asked, "Mom, shall I help you pick out something in a lighter color?"
Melinda paused with the lilies in her hand, looked down at her own clothes nervously, and said, "Do I not look good in this? I thought today was a good day, so I specially wore something festive."
"It’s not that it doesn’t look good, it’s just that the red is too bright and doesn’t match your temperament," Sienna said as she helped Melinda back to her room.
She picked out a modified qipao dress for Melinda from the wardrobe, in smoke pink, with embroidered elements made from cotton linen. The dress was knee-length, cinched at the waist, and had five-quarter sleeves, highlighting Melinda’s slender and tall figure, making her look youthful and gentle.
Sienna had invited artisans to custom-make a batch of cotton linen dresses for Melinda recently, thinking that wearing cotton linen in summer would be more breathable and comfortable. She hadn’t planned on having her wear it on such an occasion today, but it turned out to be useful now.
While she was helping Melinda with her hair, someone knocked on the door. Soon, they heard Auntie King call out, "Linton, Mr. Thorne is here."
Sienna called out towards the door, "We’ll be out soon."
She looked at Melinda in the mirror and noticed her lip color was a bit pale, so she applied some lipstick and touched up her eyebrows.
At this time, Quentin Thorne, who had been standing by the door for a while, walked in and smiled, "Your mom looks very pretty today."
Sienna also smiled, looking at the beautiful and serene Melinda in the mirror, and vaguely understood why Quentin Thorne had been attracted to her back then.
She knew from a young age that Melinda was pretty, different from other women in the village, but couldn’t quite articulate how she was pretty as her aesthetic awareness wasn’t mature back then.
But now that she’s grown up and seen many so-called top beauties, she finally realized that young Melinda was truly beautiful.
With her eyebrows done, Sienna helped Melinda stand in front of Quentin Thorne and asked with a smile, "Doesn’t my mom, with a little dressing up, look just as good as she did when she was young?"
Quentin Thorne’s eyes crinkled behind his glasses, his gaze softened, but before he could speak, Melinda gently pulled her daughter’s hand and said, "That’s enough, Annie, help me outside."
Sienna then helped Melinda out, with Quentin Thorne following behind. As soon as the family reached the living room, the doorbell rang again.
Auntie King, who was preparing fruit in the kitchen, hurriedly ran to open the door and, seeing Simon Forrester and the Forrester Family standing outside, excitedly called inside, "Linton, Mr. Thorne, Mr. Forrester’s family is here!"
Upon hearing this, Quentin Thorne quickly headed towards the door.
Sienna also supported Melinda as they went over.
The three stood at the door.
Looking at the Forrester Family of five neatly lined up outside, Quentin Thorne warmly said, "Please come in, please come in~"
Old Master Forrester stepped in first, Auntie King quickly took out five pairs of guest slippers, and Old Master Forrester changed into them and gestured for the rest of the family to come in.
Sylvia Langley assisted Grandma Forrester as they entered, followed by Simon Forrester and Zane Forrester, both holding red gift bags.
Normally reserved, Melinda Linton uncharacteristically greeted the Forrester Family, "Hello, everyone, come in and sit down."
Sienna also greeted the elders of the Forrester Family, and once everyone was seated in the living room, she went over to help Simon Forrester place the gift bags in the dining room.
Finally, the two returned to the living room, hand in hand.
The sofa in the apartment living room is a 4+2+recliner set, with the four elders from the Forrester Family seated in the central four-seat area of honor, while Quentin Thorne and Melinda Linton sat together on the two-seat secondary position.
Sienna, holding Simon Forrester’s hand, went to sit near the recliner, looking at her parents sitting together, her heart suddenly filled with happiness.
She looked gratefully at Simon Forrester, finally understanding why he, despite wanting to marry, repeatedly postponed the wedding without truly preparing for it.
Because he was waiting for this day when her parents could sit together with the Forrester Family to discuss their marriage.
He not only gave her a grand proposal but also provided the scene where her marriage could be officiated by her parents, just like other girls.
Quentin Thorne was responsible for making tea, while Auntie King, after bringing out the plated fruit, stood by Melinda Linton waiting.
Sitting next to Zane Forrester, Sylvia Langley glanced a few times at Melinda Linton, and when her eyes met Auntie King’s, she smiled politely.
Sylvia Langley looked at Auntie King and asked, "Who is this? Why don’t you sit down?"
Melinda Linton smiled, "I am not in good health, this is my caregiver." Then she looked up at Auntie King and said, "I am fine, you can go busy yourself, I’ll call if I need something."
Auntie King nodded and went to the kitchen to attend to other matters.
Only then did Sylvia Langley withdraw her gaze.
After drinking tea and exchanging pleasantries for a while, they got to the main topic.
Old Master Forrester spoke first, "Quentin, our Jules and Thornton have been together for two years now. The two kids truly love each other, and as elders, we shouldn’t delay them."
Quentin Thorne smiled politely and said, "Uncle Forrester, our Annie has already changed her surname, so you shouldn’t call her ’Thornton’ anymore. Either call her ’Annie’ like we do, or call her ’Thorne’."
’Thorne’ was how Old Master Forrester addressed Quentin Thorne, naturally an elder couldn’t call Sienna Thornton ’Thorne,’ Old Master Forrester laughed heartily, "Yes, yes, yes, look at my old muddled mind. Annie, from now on, let’s all call ’Annie’!"
He said this while turning to look at his son, daughter-in-law, and elderly wife.
The three of the Forrester Family naturally agreed with smiles.
Skirting past that, seeing Quentin Thorne not expressing an opinion, Old Master Forrester asked again, "Quentin, what’s your take? If agreeable, let’s settle the two kids’ marriage today?"
Quentin Thorne leisurely continued brewing tea, occasionally lifting his gaze to glance at Simon Forrester across from him. Without speaking, he just smiled and observed him for quite a while, then slowly said, "Uncle Forrester, to tell you the truth, I am not entirely satisfied with Annie marrying into your Forrester Family."
These words were quite embarrassing for the Forrester Family.
Perhaps not anticipating him to be so blunt, Old Master Forrester was momentarily speechless, not recovering his wits for some time. It was Grandma Forrester who reacted quickly, grasping her husband’s hand, and asked Quentin Thorne, "Why? Is there any aspect where our Forrester Family is lacking?"
The tone was not pleasant. Although Old Master Forrester wanted to stop his wife, it was already too late.
Quentin Thorne, however, remained calm, smilingly stood up, poured more tea for the two elders, returned to his seat next to Melinda Linton, and said with a smile, "Our Annie is now a public servant, busy with work and under great pressure. Ideally, I would hope she finds someone in the same system, facilitating mutual understanding and support."
Old Master Forrester thought to himself, is this a subtle way of saying he disdains our darling not being a civil servant?
But listening, it doesn’t seem to be the case; Quentin Thorne’s words hardly appear superficial?
The elder was contemplating the implication behind Quentin Thorne’s words when he heard his wife snort coldly, "Our Jules is now a major shareholder of ’The Forresters,’ receiving billions in dividends yearly. After your daughter gets married, she might as well stay home and care for the children. It’s not like the Forrester Family can’t support her, so why be so busy?..."
