Our Love Story: Hard to Guard Against the Sudden Love Strike-Chapter 427 - 406: Negotiation (Discussion and Judgment)
Old Master Forrester heard this and thought, this is bad. He turned his head and exchanged a look with his wife, and only then did Grandma Forrester reluctantly stop herself from speaking further.
Old Master Forrester turned back to Quentin Thorne. Quentin Thorne’s expression showed subtle anger, but he also seemed to have the upper hand?
He smiled and poured tea for Old Master Forrester: "Uncle Forrester, isn’t your daughter sixty this year? It seems she hasn’t neglected her career since she was young? You’ve been quite supportive of her, haven’t you?"
Old Master Forrester didn’t say anything.
Grandma Forrester smiled proudly: "That’s right, women should definitely have their own careers. Our Bianca, her career is even more successful than little Leo’s father..."
Quentin Thorne’s face completely fell: "But if it’s someone else’s daughter, if it’s our Annie, you want her to stay home and take care of the family? Doesn’t she need a career?"
Grandma Forrester was at a loss for words and didn’t speak for a while.
Quentin Thorne took a sip of tea, his eyes sharp and cold, hidden behind his glasses.
He looked around at the Forrester Family, then looked at Sienna Thornton, thinking that if Sienna showed an unpleasant face, it meant she didn’t like what he said. But Sienna appeared to be as composed as ever, so he felt assured to continue——
"As far as I know, Uncle Forrester, your daughter only has an associate degree, right?" 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂
Old Master Forrester awkwardly responded, "Hmm."
Quentin Thorne chuckled and asked again, "Your daughter with just an associate degree served as the CEO of ’The Forresters’ for at least thirty years. Our Annie is a Doctor of Law with legal licenses in the country, Azure Harbor, and California. Don’t you think it’s a waste to have her stay home and take care of the family?"
Old Master Forrester thought to himself, our Bianca had someone to help take care of the children, and now my daughter-in-law is in Franland for her career and can’t come back to look after the kids. If your daughter doesn’t stay home, who will take care of the children?
He thought this way but of course couldn’t say it out loud. If he did, there would be no need to continue the conversation today.
Just as he was thinking about how to argue with Quentin Thorne, he suddenly heard his wife speak: "Bianca was able to go to work before because I helped her with the kids. Besides, back then, family planning was strict, so she could only have one child, Leo. Things are different now. The country has opened up to two children, and who knows, maybe three in the future. If your daughter has three kids in the future, and Sylvia is abroad, she can’t come back to help with the children, so she definitely has to stay home and take care of the family. Otherwise, who’s going to look after the kids? For a woman, family should still be the priority!"
Old Master Forrester: "..."
Zane Forrester: "..."
Sylvia Langley: "..."
Simon Forrester: "..."
Quentin Thorne said nothing more, comforting Melinda Linton by gently patting her hand, his gaze shifting to Sienna Thornton across from them.
Sienna Thornton’s expression remained unchanged, but Simon Forrester, sitting next to her, had turned a livid shade.
Quentin Thorne only glanced at him briefly before looking away.
He lowered his eyes to Melinda Linton and softly asked, "Melinda, what do you think? Do you agree with this marriage?"
Melinda Linton looked conflicted, glancing at Sienna Thornton: "Annie, what do you think? If you are willing, I will support you."
Sienna Thornton remained calm: "I’ll let my parents decide."
Simon Forrester’s face fell.
Old Master Forrester finally understood where Quentin Thorne’s previous confidence came from.
He predicted that his wife would say those revealing words, so he intentionally set traps for her to fall into.
These Thorne individuals are indeed clever! No wonder his grandson, Jules, was utterly captivated by their daughter!
Old Master Forrester felt that this marriage negotiation was going nowhere and was about to give up when he suddenly sensed his grandson’s murderous glare. He recalled his grandson’s threat to marry into the Thorne Family, which tightened his heart, and, gritting his teeth, he said, "How about this! In the future, when Annie has kids, I’ll have Sylvia return to help care for them, so Annie can go to work!"
Sylvia Langley didn’t like this, remaining silent, indicating her disapproval.
Old Master Forrester didn’t get any agreement from his allies, so he exchanged a look with his daughter-in-law, still receiving no response.
Old Master Forrester grew angry and was about to say that the children should be raised by themselves when Quentin Thorne clucked disapprovingly: "No one to take care of the kids, and yet you plan for three. Asking a daughter-in-law with a government job to give up her career to stay home, taking advantage of Annie’s tax incentives in the same manner — worthy of a businessman!"
Quentin Thorne hadn’t said a word of falsehood, leaving the Forrester Family red-faced and speechless.
Simon Forrester’s face had turned from normal to green, then from green to black.
If the confrontation continued like this, who knows, Sienna Thornton might even grow upset with the Forrester Family.
He stood up and sternly addressed the four elders of the Forrester Family: "Enough! If you haven’t come to an agreement, go home and discuss it again." With that, he began to see them off.
Grandma Forrester was the first to stand, snorting coldly with her chin raised, heading toward the door.
Sylvia Langley and Zane Forrester bade brief farewells to Quentin Thorne and Melinda Linton and also left.
Old Master Forrester was full of regret, continuously explaining to Melinda Linton that he was determined for Sienna Thornton to become their granddaughter-in-law, and they would visit again once their family had made up their mind.
Melinda Linton was gracious, politely saying it was not a problem and they should visit often.
After seeing them off, Quentin Thorne closed the door and turned to Sienna Thornton, who had come out to see the guests off with him, asking, "Annie, are you upset with what I said?"
Sienna Thornton smiled: "No, I’m grateful that you stood up for me. Otherwise, these issues would have to be resolved by myself later on, which would be exhausting and possibly ineffective."
Quentin Thorne patted her back: "I’m glad you understand!"
.
Meanwhile, the Forrester Family, having exited the elevator, climbed into Simon Forrester’s car.
The family sat in silence, their expressions grave, except for Sylvia Langley, who chuckled and said: "Annie’s mom is quite pretty! She has a good bearing, tall and slim, and her features are beautiful, though she has some sunspots on her face. If you didn’t know, you couldn’t tell she was from the countryside. No wonder Annie is so pretty..."
No one responded to her.
She suddenly remembered something and tugged on Grandma Forrester’s sleeve: "Did you see how Dean Thorne spoke to Annie’s mom? Oh my! So gentle! Speaking softly, as if afraid to raise his voice and hurt Annie’s mom or something..."
Sitting in the front passenger seat like a transparent person all morning, Zane Forrester quietly remarked: "I finally understand why Dean Thorne never had eyes for Ian Grant all these years."
Sylvia Langley thought of Ian Grant’s usual cold demeanor, arrogance, and disdainful views, quietly laughing: "She probably often looked down on Dean Thorne. She’s a collection of every trait men dislike..."
The couple chatted freely about Quentin Thorne and his wife, while Old Master Forrester, who had been silent for some time, suddenly yelled: "Enough! Just now, at the lady’s house, you needed to speak and were all mute! What are you gossiping about now?"
He didn’t dare to scold his wife, so he turned his frustration on his silent son and daughter-in-law.
Simon Forrester, driving with a dark face, remained silent, heading straight to the old mansion. After dropping them off, he turned the car around, ready to return to Sienna Thornton.
Old Master Forrester hurried over to the driver’s side and knocked on the window: "Jules, you’re not staying for dinner at the old mansion today?"
The window rolled halfway down to reveal Simon Forrester’s expressionless face behind his sunglasses.
He glanced around at the Forrester Family and said coolly: "You all just wait for me to become a live-in son-in-law for Thornton!"
With that, he stepped on the gas, and the car roared away from the old mansion.
