Prosperous Marriage: Married to My Brother-in-law-Chapter 653: The Arrogance of the Opponent (1)_1
"Yes, Sect Leader."
The subordinate answered respectfully before turning and leaving.
Outside the manor, Glades Horne and Hansen Ruiz were indeed stopped five hundred meters away.
There was only one three-meter-wide cement road leading to this manor; blocking their car was an easy task. Noah Reyes's underling simply moved a chair into the center of the road, sat down with an air of arrogance, crossed his arms, crossed one leg over the other, and coldly and haughtily watched the two approaching vehicles.
"Young Master, there's a roadblock."
Glades Horne's bodyguards stopped the car upon seeing Noah Reyes's man blocking the road and reported to Glades.
The winter wind howled. There were always fewer buildings in the suburbs compared to the city district. Moreover, Noah Reyes had chosen a secluded location; the manor was built on a flat-topped hill, with buildings only at its base. When it was quiet, the place felt especially cold. Noah Reyes's man had only been seated in the middle of the road for a few minutes before feeling underdressed. But since the people the Sect Leader had instructed him to stop were already in front of him, he couldn't possibly go back inside the manor for more clothes.
"Get out and ask them."
Glades Horne had also seen this and ordered in a low tone.
Hansen Ruiz, following behind him, also stopped his car. He got out, walked to Glades Horne's window, and leaned against the car while speaking to Glades in the backseat, "Noah Reyes probably doesn't want to see you."
Glades Horne snorted coldly. "If he's inside today, I must see him!"
Hansen Ruiz just smiled, remaining silent about his friend's adamance.
The bodyguard quickly gathered the information and returned to the car. Hansen Ruiz stepped aside, allowing the bodyguard to approach the window and explain to Glades Horne why they were stopped.
After hearing the bodyguard's explanation, Glades Horne's handsome face darkened once again.
His purpose?
His purpose was to see Noah Reyes.
He wanted to ask Noah Reyes about Adele, and of course, he had to see Reyes himself, with no one else present. Since he had no proof and couldn't be sure that the man was indeed Noah Reyes, he would be very careful, considering Adele's situation and Noah Reyes's reputation.
"Tell him I just want to see Noah Reyes. He is the real person in charge of the Black Emperor Group, isn't he? The Black Emperor Group has been challenging the Valence Group for the past three years. Noah Reyes has become my, Glades Horne's, rival. I just want to see the true face of my opponent," Glades Horne said in a low voice.
He leaned back in the black leather car seat, his black suit blending with the seat's color, further accentuating his cold and stern presence.
The bodyguard responded softly and then went back to speak to the man blocking the road.
The man blocking the road uncrossed his arms, pulled out a mobile phone, and called back to the manor, relaying Glades Horne's intent to Noah Reyes.
Noah Reyes had already left the main hall and was in the study room on the second floor, concentrating on painting Adele Horne's portrait. His painting skill was not perfected. The portraits of Adele he painted didn't resemble her, especially the eyes. Often, after completing a painting, a different beautiful woman would emerge on the canvas. However, none were an exact likeness, often bearing just a hint of similarity.
"Sect Leader."
Deon Myers knocked and entered, seeing him painting. The portrait closely resembled those he had been given to aid in the search, and Myers immediately broke into a cold sweat. The Sect Leader's painting skill hadn't improved. If the Sect Leader couldn't paint the woman he was looking for vividly, how could Myers possibly find her? Without a doubt, Myers faced a daily scolding.
"Did Glades Horne say anything?" Noah Reyes put down his brush, unsatisfied. He looked at the freshly completed portrait of the woman, then ripped it forcefully and threw it to the ground in frustration.
He walked to the window, somewhat irritated, and pushed it open. The cold air from outside immediately rushed in, blowing away his agitation.
It seemed he would have to study painting under a master. But if he did that, finding her in a short time was out of the question.
Painting, it seemed simple, but was actually very difficult.
Typically, capturing the true likeness of the beauty in one's mind required profound skill. As a self-taught learner who had studied from books for only a brief time, how could he possibly capture Adele Horne's essence, let alone get the shape of her face right?
He should have let Deon Myers take a look at her face; Deon was the person he trusted the most.
Outside the window lay the manor's scenery, which, truth be told, was not beautiful. Being newly built, apart from the structures, the green belts had yet to mature, the trees were still bare, and the lawns were unappealing.
"He has. He said he just wants to see the Sect Leader's true face and stated that the Sect Leader is his true rival," Deon Myers answered respectfully, his sharp eyes carefully observing Noah Reyes's reactions.
Noah Reyes snorted coldly, a sneer creeping onto his handsome face as he straightened his back, his pride enveloping him.
"Does he think he can see me, Noah Reyes, whenever he pleases? Tell him to leave. I will not meet him." Noah Reyes was agitated. What he wanted most was to find her from four years ago; meeting a rival seemed utterly unimportant. Besides, he had already memorized Glades Horne's capabilities and appearance. He had figured Glades out long ago, while Glades, on the other hand, still hadn't figured him out. In such a confrontation, his odds of winning were much higher.
"Yes."
Deon Myers quickly complied, not daring to say more, and left the study room to relay Noah Reyes's decision.
Upon hearing that Noah Reyes refused to see him, Glades Horne's expression remained unchanged, but his demeanor grew significantly colder.
Noah Reyes could pull rank and refuse to meet him; Glades had expected that. After all, Noah's status was different—he was the leader of the Blazing Sect. However, when Glades Horne wanted to see someone, he made sure it happened.
"I told you, they clearly don't want to meet you," Hansen Ruiz glanced sideways at the man blocking their path.
None of them had seen Noah Reyes's true face, yet he was now their enemy. Maintaining this mystery was greatly to Noah's advantage, and Noah Reyes wouldn't be foolish enough to meet Glades Horne so easily.
What Hansen Ruiz could deduce, Noah Reyes had surely thought of as well.
Glades Horne didn't speak, merely signaling his bodyguard to get in the car.
"Young Master, shall we return?" The bodyguard started the engine, preparing to turn the car around. But then he realized a new problem: the road was merely three meters wide, making it extremely difficult to turn the car.
"Floor it and charge forward!" Glades Horne ordered coldly.
"Young Master?"
"Do you not understand my words?" Glades Horne's tone turned colder. The bodyguard hurriedly replied, "Yes."
Then he stepped on the gas and surged forward.
"You dare to force your way through?" The color drained from the blocking man's face. He moved quickly, not bothering to grab the chair, and hastily rolled to the side of the road. He had barely made it to the side when he heard a crash—the chair he had been sitting on moments before was sent flying by Glades Horne's car.
