Rebirth: Love in the Apocalypse-Chapter 149: Stadium 4
"We didn’t encounter a single level two or level three zombie." Mo Chenxuan stated, and Qin Wu nodded.
"Don’t you think it’s strange?" She asked, but Mo Chenxuan shook his head after a moment of thought.
"Not really." He said and began explaining.
"Most zombies evolved after the black rain. It makes sense that the indoor zombies are weaker than the outdoor zombies."
After listening to the explanation, Qin Wu nodded.
Because the apocalypse began at night, there were originally more indoor zombies than outdoor zombies.
However, things changed over time.
After all, many survivors left doors open during their escape, allowing indoor zombies to go outside. As a result, these zombies enjoyed the black rain and consequently evolved.
Unfortunately, the stadium’s structure was too complex.
Even if the gates were open, the zombies couldn’t go out, and no survivors dared to go in. This caused the stadium zombies to miss the black rain, which slowed their evolution process.
"It’s a good thing for us." Qin Wu said, and Mo Chenxuan nodded.
Although level two crystal cores were better than level one, killing level one zombies was easier than killing level two.
Considering the number of zombies in the stadium and their army of only five thousand, the two felt that missing the level two crystal cores was preferable to the alternative.
After that, the two killed the zombies in the mechanism room before inviting Wang Meilin to check the machines.
"The machines are intact, but we need fuel for the generators." She said.
Qin Wu didn’t hesitate; she took out the fuel, and Wang Meilin got to work.
The power was back in no time, and they immediately started the mechanism to open the stadium roof.
"It will be fully open in one hour." Wang Meilin said.
"Chenxuan, I will keep an eye on the machines and come out after the roof is fully open. You should leave with Auntie Wang." Qin Wu said.
This was necessary.
After all, the flying zombies wouldn’t wait until the roof was completely open before they began making trouble.
Knowing this, Qin Wu felt one of them needed to stay outside just in case of unexpected situations.
"Be careful while I am away." Mo Chenxuan reminded, and Qin Wu nodded.
"You too." She said.
After a quick hug, Mo Chenxuan left, and Wang Meilin followed closely behind.
Five minutes later, they walked outside and returned to the camp.
"Stay alert." Mo Chenxuan reminded everyone as he took his place among Team Legends.
Time passed, and fifteen minutes later, a gap appeared in the stadium roof.
However, no zombies immediately flew out.
"Send out five surveillance drones." Xiao Junxie instructed, looking at the drone operators.
A moment later, five surveillance drones flew up and entered the stadium through the gap in the roof.
"They are transmitting." An operator shouted with an excited expression.
The drones used radio frequencies to transmit data.
Fortunately, the distance wasn’t long, and the drones could transmit the filmed images and videos perfectly.
"As we expected, the stadium is at full capacity." Xu Fei observed.
Along with the images and videos was the sound transmission.
As they watched the videos, Team Legends listened to a hair-raising cacophony of grunts and groans from more than one hundred thousand zombies.
"It makes my skin crawl." Lin Rongrong muttered and subconsciously shuddered.
"I have counted eleven level three zombies so far." Xiao Junxie said.
"The scouts previously reported nine level three zombies. Their number is not too far off."
"If..." Xu Fei started but suddenly stopped.
Simultaneously, everyone saw a metal rod growing bigger in front of a drone, and before they could react, the drone was smashed to pieces.
"Is that a metal element zombie, or did it pick up the metal rod from somewhere?" Lin Rongrong wondered.
"It should be a level two metal zombie." Xu Fei said.
"Too bad for the drone." Lu Yanyan sighed, but what could they do?
They needed intelligence, and losing drones was part of the risk.
"Take the drones higher." Xiao Junxie instructed, and the drones’ operators did as asked.
"The situation is better than expected. We will begin the operation when Wu’er returns. Also..." Mo Chenxuan started, fell into thought and continued.
"Team Flow seems to have a white-throated needletail mutant?" He asked, looking at Tang Jun for confirmation.
"Our team indeed has such a person." The man said.
"Are there any other bird mutants or ability users who can fly in other teams and the army?"
"Team Eve doesn’t have one." Xu Hongying said.
"The army also doesn’t have one." Xiao Junxie confirmed, and Mo Chenxuan nodded.
He expected such an answer.
After all, mutants were rare, let alone bird mutants.
Additionally, speed ability users could fly, but only when they advanced to level three.
Considering that only he and Qin Wu had advanced to level three, it was natural that there weren’t any ability users who could fly in the teams and army.
"Boss, what are you thinking?" Xiao Junxie asked.
"Let’s change the attack method from explosives to fire. We will irrigate the zombies with gasoline and then start a fire." Mo Chenxuan said.
He originally planned to bomb the stadium because he thought there would be thousands of level two and level three zombies.
However, most of the zombies were level one, and a roaring fire was enough to burn them to death. Also, using fire was safer than blowing up the stadium.
"Burning the zombies will preserve the integrity of the stadium. Boss, are you planning to repurpose the stadium?" Someone asked.
"We will see." Mo Chenxuan said with a thoughtful expression.
In fact, he was conflicted about the stadium.
On one hand, the stadium was sturdy and could be repurposed, but on the other, it didn’t fit their original development plan.
Thinking of this, Mo Chenxuan summoned the expert team.
"We have a little over a week until the development phase begins. Before then, come up with a plan that includes the stadium. The proposal should not only detail a plan to repurpose it, but also include the expected challenges of maintaining it." He instructed.
"Yes, boss." Several experts nodded and rushed to begin discussing.
Mo Chenxuan had a thoughtful expression as he watched them leave.
Although he was conflicted about the stadium due to land utilisation and future maintenance costs, he was also inclined to leave it as it was.
After all, the place had a roof that could be used to guard against flying enemies and insect swarms.
’It’s best to keep it.’ He thought, but planned to discuss with Qin Wu before making the final decision.
