Chapter 32: Movie Shoot 2

Vanessa banged on the door, frustration building. "Open the door!" she shouted, but no response came.

Frantically, she searched for her phone. Just as she found it and began dialing Susan’s number, the lock clicked. The door swung open, revealing Fiona.

Vanessa sighed in relief. "Fiona! Thank God you’re here. I thought no one could hear me."

She hugged her tightly, but Fiona simply nodded. "Now isn’t the time for that. The entire crew is waiting for you, and the director is furious. You better put on your running shoes!"

Vanessa’s eyes widened. "Oh no! I need to get ready!" She rushed towards the dressing area, but her heart sank when she couldn’t find her costume.

Just then, Sam entered, her face tense. "Miss Owen, the director is asking for you! He’s not happy."

"Sam! My costume is missing! Where is it?"

Sam frowned. "What do you mean? Didn’t Eunice give it to you?"

Vanessa’s eyes widened in disbelief. "What?! You gave it to Eunice? Why?"

"She told me she’d deliver it. The director called for me, so I had no choice. I didn’t think she’d keep it from you."

Vanessa didn’t wait for an explanation. She stormed outside towards the set, but stopped abruptly. Her eyes landed on her costume ripped apart and tossed into a bin.

Sam gasped, rushing to pick it up. "This wasn’t how I gave it to her. Why would she do this?!"

Vanessa clenched her fists. "That witch! I’ll teach her a lesson."

Fiona grabbed Vanessa’s arm before she could act. "We’ll deal with Eunice later. Right now, we need to get you ready. Come with me!"

Sam followed behind as they hurried to find a replacement.

"We are thirty minutes behind schedule! Where is Vanessa?!" the director barked. The crew murmured amongst themselves.

"She thinks she’s too important to be on time."

"Her cousin is way better. She’s a big actress but still respects everyone."

The door suddenly swung open. Vanessa walked in, followed by Fiona, Sam, and Susan. She wore a different black dress, decorated with silver jewelry and a belt that made it look regal.

The director frowned and stormed toward her. "Vanessa, what is the meaning of this? We’re behind schedule because of you!"

Vanessa bowed her head slightly. "I’m sorry, Director. I was locked in my dressing room. That’s why I was late."

Gasps echoed through the room. Eunice’s face turned pale. "W-What rubbish! Who would lock you in? Just admit you were late instead of making excuses."

Vanessa glared at her, ready to respond, but the director raised his hand. "Enough! Let’s just get this movie started. Everyone, to your positions!"

As Vanessa moved to her mark, Eunice’s eyes fell on the new outfit. "Wait a second! That’s not the dress made for the film. What are you wearing, cousin?"

The director’s gaze darkened. "She’s right. Vanessa, where is the original costume?"

Susan stepped in. "Director, when we found it, it was torn to shreds. We don’t know who did it, but for now, this dress should work. It fits the scene, doesn’t it?"

The director examined Vanessa’s outfit. After a moment, he sighed. "Fine, we’ll go with this for now. Let’s begin!"

The cameras rolled, and Vanessa got into character instantly. She spoke her lines with confidence, her expressions flawless. However, Eunice, who shared the scene with her, struggled. Her anger and jealousy clouded her focus.

"Cut!" the director shouted in frustration. "Eunice, you missed your cue again! Focus!"

Eunice clenched her fists but nodded stiffly. They restarted the scene.

"Cut! Eunice, your reaction was too slow. Let’s do it again!"

Murmurs spread through the crew.

"Wow, and she was talking about Vanessa being unprofessional? Look who’s wasting our time now."

"I used to admire her, but she’s a terrible actress ."

"The director should replace her unless we would remain here the whole day!"

"Vanessa outshines her in every way. No wonder she’s angry."

"Even my grandmother can act better, why is she even here?"

Eunice overheard the whispers, making her even more flustered. They repeated the scene over and over again, costing time and energy. The crew grew more annoyed with each take.

"Eunice, if you’re not ready to act, let me know now!" the director snapped.

Eunice swallowed hard, realizing she had only embarrassed herself. She glanced at Vanessa, who stood calm and composed, waiting for the next take. The difference between them had never been clearer.

At this point she hated Vanessa so much that she felt like pushing her off a roof

With a deep breath, Eunice forced herself to focus. But the damage was done she had lost the crew’s respect.

Soon the first and second scene was over and all the crew members were given an hour break before they reviewed the scene

Collapsing on her chair, Vanessa smiled relieved, "Thanks again for helping me Fiona, you really saved the day.. but wait, why are you here anyway?"

Vanessa questioned as Fiona smiled, "You probably don’t know but I’m am a side actor."

"Really, what part are you playing?"

"The female leads sister who dies in episode five!" She said as she and Vanessa burst I to laughter.

"That Eunice annoys me, I’ll teach her a lesson." Fiona said as she turned around and left taking Vanessa by surprise.

Soon the break was over and all the crew and actors gathered around the huge screen as the first two scenes played.

The director sighed and rubbed his temples. "Eunice, you need to work on your delivery. Your reactions were slow, and you lacked emotion. If this continues, I will have to consider a replacement. Understand?"

Eunice stiffened but nodded, her hands clenched tightly.

Just then, the screen flickered, and instead of the film footage, a new video started playing.

Gasps filled the room as everyone watched the CCTV recording. The footage clearly showed Eunice sneaking into Vanessa’s dressing room, locking the door, and then tearing her costume apart before throwing it in the bin.

Silence fell over the set. All eyes turned to Eunice, whose face drained of color. The director’s expression darkened as he slowly turned to her.

"Eunice," he said, his voice dangerously low. "Explain this. Now."

Eunice’s lips trembled as she took a step back. "I-I... I don’t know what this is. It’s fake! Someone is trying to frame me!" she stuttered, her voice shaking.

The director’s expression hardened. "Fake? Are you saying we can’t believe our own security footage?"

The crew whispered amongst themselves, shaking their heads in disappointment.

"She got caught red-handed."

"And she was acting like Vanessa was the problem."

"She should be fired!"

Sighing, the director just turned to Fiona.. "You there! You’ll take Eunice’s role.. learn the script and practice. Everyone dismissed!"
