Chapter 68: Why Rebirth? 1

The night was still young, yet the temperature at the Quinn mansion was colder than usual.

At the deep, dark basement of the Quinn mansion, the sounds of cries could be heard. Bitter tears.

Lying on the floor, covered in sweat and blood, were two maids.

Their entire faces were filled with tears as they begged for their lives in this state.

Seated before them was Rowen, his eyes darker than usual as he rested his arm on the chair’s handle, his legs crossed.

And behind him was George, his face expressionless and as straight as always.

Meanwhile, beside the maids were two men dressed in black. One held a black belt while the other an iron rod ready to use these equipments when instructed.

"I won’t repeat myself again," Rowen said, his voice calm and firm. "Who caused the fire?"

He asked as the two maids shivered, exchanging gazes. "I-I-it was Mrs. Vanessa-ahhh."

Before she could complete her words, she was hit in the back, and she cried out in pain.

Seeing her sister going through so much pain, the other maid cried out, "P-please sir... w-we will say the truth, please spare us..."

She begged as Rowen clicked his tongue slightly, facing George, who knew exactly what to do.

Walking towards her, he pulled her up with one move and tossed her right in front of Rowen, grabbing hold of her hair as she hissed in pain.

"Now speak."

"I-it was Miss Stacy, sir. She was the one w-who told us to set the guest house on fire. She also told us to lock her in her room and shut the doors so she wouldn’t be able to leave. She transferred us a huge amount of money if we were successful in the job, sir."

She said as George released her immediately, standing straight, awaiting Rowen’s response.

"Where’s your proof?"

"I-I have proof, sir. On my phone, you can see the credit alert of 10,000 dollars she sent to us. She was going to send the remaining 5,000 as balance when the job was completed."

She said as George immediately left the basement, only to return some time later with the maid’s phone. He opened the message app to find the bank credit alert and, just as the maids had said, she was truly credited the amount of 10,000 dollars.

Seeing that, a smirk escaped Rowen’s lips as he stood up from his chair. Facing George, he said, still holding the phone, "Send them both away... credit one million to their accounts and send them away from Graceland. Vanessa should never set her eyes on them ever."

He instructed as George did as told. The two maids were taken away, and that was the last time they were ever seen in Graceland.

Meanwhile, still standing and staring down at the phone was Rowen. His eyes were unreadable, though his lips had a sarcastic smile plastered around them.

**

It was around 2 a.m. when Stacy woke up from her sleep.

She turned on her bedside lamp and looked for the jug. When she finally found it, unfortunately, it was empty.

Sighing, she got down from her bed and made her way straight to the kitchen to get something to drink.

Stacy walked into the kitchen, her bare feet making soft sounds on the cold tiles. She yawned lightly, rubbing her eyes as she reached for a glass and filled it with water from the dispenser.

Just as she raised it to her lips, a sudden sound behind her made her flinch. Before she could even turn, a hand gripped her neck and slammed her back against the wall.

The glass slipped from her hand, shattering on the ground.

"Ah!" she gasped, both in shock and pain.

It took her a second to see him clearly, but there he was. Rowen. Standing right in front of her, his hand still firmly around her neck, his eyes burning with rage.

Her hands flew up, grabbing his wrist, struggling to breathe.

"R-Rowen... what? What are you doing?" she managed to choke out.

His grip loosened just a little, just enough for her to speak, but not enough to run.

"Playing dumb now?" he asked coldly, his voice low and dangerous. "You think I don’t know what you did?"

"I-I don’t know what you’re talking about!" Stacy cried, her voice trembling.

Rowen leaned in, his face just inches from hers. "The fire, Stacy. You caused the fire."

"No! No, I didn’t—"

He slammed his fist against the wall beside her head, making her jump.

"I said don’t lie to me."

Her lips quivered. Her eyes darted around, looking for someone, anyone that could save her. But there was no one.

"You tried to hurt yourself and blame it on Vanessa. Who the hell do you think you are?"

He said, shoving her aside as she fell slightly on the ground.

He bent down, taking hold of her chin as he forced her to look in his direction.

"That night," Rowen brought out the incident, "that night at the tea house, you had something to do with me getting drugged. And I know you had someone to help you."

He said, as Stacy whimpered, her teary eyes fixed on him. She, who always had things to say, at this moment was speechless.

"I don’t know who the hell is working with you, but I’ll make sure I teach you both a lesson."

He then pointed at her belly. "If not for this child, I would have tortured you till you regret ever meeting me. Stay the hell away from Vanessa. If you dare do anything to hurt her again... I won’t give a shit if you’re pregnant with my child or not, I’ll send you out of this house complete if you’re lucky. Do you understand?"

He shouted as he shoved her face away, standing up to leave.

Meanwhile, still seated on the ground, her face covered with tears, was Stacy. And she said with a bitter smile, "If only you remembered the past, Rowen, then you would know who’s the real villain."
