Reborn Young Miss: Phoenix Burning Red-Chapter 157: Shoot Oneself (1)
Camilla wasn’t able to sleep at all as she felt uneasy throughout the night. She was worried about her daughter, but Elise had locked her door and refused to answer her.
However, she also had to wait and ensure that Ares had proceeded with their plan. The rumors of Ares Gu being a ruthless bed partner was almost a common knowledge nowadays and Camilla couldn’t help but feel thrilled knowing Adrienne would go through such torture. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
Even though there was some uneasiness in her heart, Camilla was itching to see Adrienne’s wretched state later. With such thoughts, Camilla slowly calmed down.
"Just wait a little longer." She told herself as she sat on the bed.
After the party ended, the city was blessed with another downpour. Early in the morning, the air smelled fresh but felt moist against one’s skin. The servants had started their morning routine while the others were still busy cleaning the banquet hall.
The sun had yet to rise, but a black car had pulled up at the Gu family mansion’s doorstep. Irina alighted from the driver’s seat and rushed to open the backseat door. An old man stepped out from it. He was tall and a bit burly, and he was holding a black cane in right hand as he steadied his form.
The old butler rushed to greet him. Old Master Zhao had ceased attending social events like this, but everyone still tried to curry his favor and would send invitations to him. Who would have known that he would come here without a notice?
"Master Zhao, what brings you here early in the morning?" The old butler asked nervously.
Old Master Zhao gave him a stern look.
"My granddaughter didn’t return home last night. I’m here to pick her up." He answered before walking passed the butler and entered the mansion.
Irina kept her face blank and followed Adrienne’s grandfather. Although she thought that Adrienne was quite shameless to use her own grandfather as a pawn, she had to admit, it was brilliant.
The only thing that surprised her was when she relayed Adrienne’s words to Old Master Zhao, he didn’t bat an eyelid and nodded in agreement. She thought she needed to persuade the old man to cooperate and never thought it would be this easy.
A moment later, Old Master Gu and his wife came down. Their eyes widened in surprise seeing Cedric Zhao.
"Cedric, my old friend. You should have told me you were coming. You missed the party last night." Old Master Gu nervously asked. Cedric Zhao’s appearance today wasn’t part of the plan. If this old man found out what they did to his granddaughter, things wouldn’t be good for their family.
"Who cares about your foolish festivity last night? I’m here to pick up my granddaughter. Didn’t she spend the night here? Her bodyguard returned home last night and I was told about the incident. I hope Addie didn’t cause you any trouble." Cedric replied.
Although he hadn’t been seen in public for a number of years, his noble air remained. As Irina looked at him, she briefly wondered if Adrienne inherited this attribute from her grandfather Zhao. No one from the Jiang family was capable of exuding such aura.
Ares’s parents arrived shortly. They looked confused and turned to their father, but he only shook his head in response.
It was that moment when Camilla, Ayla and Sierra arrived. They were already dressed, eager to see Adrienne in her lowest state. When they saw an unfamiliar old man, they were startled and broke into a cold sweat when his eyes landed on them.
"So even that woman spent the night here? I expected more from you, old friend."
Camilla’s face flushed, but she still forced a smile on her face. She reminded herself to endure this humiliation as once they’d seen Adrienne’s pitiful state, this old man wouldn’t be able to mock her as he wouldn’t be able to hold his head high for having a presumptuous granddaughter.
"Since you’re already here, why don’t you join us for breakfast. Your granddaughter should join us soon."
However, just as soon as Old Master Gu said those words, a loud scream was heard from somewhere. Camilla’s heart skipped a beat and clenched. The time was finally up. A flash of exhilaration appeared on her face.
"What’s going on?" Madam Gu asked. She rushed upstairs to see what was happening.
Everyone rushed to where the scream came from. With Irina’s help, Cedric Zhao managed to follow them.
"Why are you shouting so early in the morning? Are you trying to disturb our guests?" Madam Gu immediately scolded the maid who caused the scene, but her sinister eyes could hardly be concealed. The Zhao family wouldn’t be able to ignore them once Adrienne Jiang married into their family.
Irina frowned, "What’s going on? This is the room they gave Miss Adrienne last night. Did something happen to her?"
Cedric Zhao’s face immediately darkened.
"I know I didn’t need to say this, but if something bad happened to our Addie, I will make your entire family pay for it." He said in passing, but it was enough for everyone to feel cold shivers down their spine.
"There must be some misunderstanding here. Why don’t you knock again to see if Adrienne is awake. Her grandfather personally came to pick her up after all." Camilla said. She didn’t want to waste anymore time waiting outside.
Irina stepped forward and knocked on the door. She didn’t show any expression on her face as she knew how this would turn out. The victor in the end was yet to be declared.
"Miss, I’ve arrived with your grandfather. Are you awake now? Do you need some help?"
However, only silence could be heard from the other side of the door. Those who were oblivious of the scheme pulled by the Jiang and Gu families thought something was amiss. Camilla pretended to be worried, while Ayla and Sierra’s lips curled up in anticipation.
They had never been this excited in their life and couldn’t wait to see Adrienne hit rock bottom.
Irina turned the doorknob but it was locked from the inside. She pushed the door forcefully, and slapped it loudly in order to make a scene. More people had arrived, curious as to what had happened. Since the party stretched deep into the night last night, some guests had chosen to spend the night at the Gu mansion, including Alistair Han.
Ayla glanced at him and blushed. She was certain that after today’s events, Alistair would lose his interest towards her cousin.
"What are you waiting for?! Quick, get the keys!"
It didn’t take long before a maid brought the set of keys and opened the door with trembling hands. As the door opened, the strong scent of body fluids and blood reached everyone’s nose. Adrienne’s black evening dress was seen on the floor causing the women to gasp, covering their mouths in surprise.
Camilla pushed everyone and entered the room, seeing a massive lump on the bed with Ares’s half body exposed to everyone. It was obvious that the two had recently been intimate. She wanted to see Adrienne’s wretched appearance, but the body next to Ares was covered with the thick blanket.
Camilla gasped and appeared to be frightened and ashamed.
"Young Master Gu, what’s the meaning of this?! How dare you harass a daughter of our Jiang family?!" She exclaimed.
In front of so many people, it was too late for Adrienne to escape. With her reputation completely destroyed, who would want to marry her?
"This is my fault. I should have paid more attention to Adrienne." Camilla shed a few tears. "To think that someone would defile her like this... I should have tried harder to convince her to return home last night. I wouldn’t know how to explain this to her father later."
She pretended to be concerned about her stepdaughter’s welfare, but her words had hinted at a subtle meaning. It was Adrienne’s fault for not listening to her words. Since most people are aware of Adrienne Jiang’s dispute with her father because of his new wife, it was easy for her to manipulate their opinion.
"Unfilial son! Unfilial son! Why would you do this to Miss Jiang?!" Old Master Gu was infuriated as he angrily pointed at his grandson.
His loud voice stirred the occupants of the bed. Ares then slowly sat up and scratched his head before yawning behind his hand.
"Old man, don’t you think it’s too early for your nagging?" Ares groaned. He hadn’t expected his mother to bring such a crowd to witness the evidence of his ’spring night’ with his new wife.
"Madam Jiang hasn’t seen the woman’s face, yet you’re already certain she’s our Miss Addie?" Irina asked, piquing everyone’s attention.
"How could it not be her? Adrienne was the one occupying this room last night!"
Right that moment, a faint and familiar voice was heard from the outside.
"Why is everyone here? What are you looking at?"
Hearing that voice, everyone stood frozen as if they were hit by a bolt of lightning. Cedric Zhao raised a brow, his gaze moved towards the direction of the voice.
