Reincarnated Jester: Taming Players-Chapter 49: Tea With Principal
Chapter 49: Tea With Principal
Without wasting time, Jung said, radiating aloofness and arrogance,
"The world is ending. No one wants to listen to crap like that right now. Make us fight each other or something; that’s what we need."
"Oh, why would I listen to you?" Gio raised his eyebrows.
"From what he knew about Jung, the boy was an attention seeker—rude and demanding.
"Because most of the students prefer to beat my ass," Jung said as he eyed the bystanders and added,
"And I want to save the world. Which means I need to get rid of the extra hassle sooner rather than later."
After hearing his loud declaration, Gio scanned the boy again.
In appearance, Jung acted like a rebel because that was the only archetype he was willing to show the world.
At least for now.
The same couldn’t be said about Balatro, though.
Why would he hide his might from players, when the more unique he appeared, the more of them would flood him and strengthen him?
Noting his every move, Gio said to Jung, "And again, why would I listen to your demand, stop my lecture, and let you fight like the brute you are?"
He was massaging his gap roughly.
"I told you, but perhaps my words went in the hole of yours."
Shaking his head in disapproval, Jung continued, "That’s why lobotomy isn’t always a good idea."
Gio ignored his remark and asked, "You mean the world you are going to save?"
His tone was deliberately mocking as if he didn’t even entertain the idea of Jung protecting Maskera.
The connections Jung made didn’t remain concealed.
"You should have talked to Snowshade. She concedes enough to let me do as I please. So don’t make me repeat myself and call these stupid students of yours to settle your score."
Jung was challenging authority.
It was something no other students had done before.
Small conflicts here and there didn’t count, as not even rebels dared to confront adults this way.
Even if Jung had hero and wizard archetypes, he didn’t really act upon them because they didn’t correspond to the things he preferred to do.
His personality deviated from those characteristics, yet he didn’t feel like a rebel at all.
He was something different.
A Keeper, someone Jung ought to become but was still far from it.
Having expressed his needs, Jung could only wait and hope that Gio would agree.
Unfortunately for Jung, the explorer professor didn’t share his ideas, and speaking in a soft tone, he said,
"Leave my class this instant."
"Your class, your rules," Jung said immediately and went towards the door.
But there was no way he would give up this easily. "I will leave, but I hope you can explore methods to shut the gaping hole in your class."
Of course, he mocked Gio.
Standing at the exit, he added. "It’s hard to learn from you while your forehead is clearly auditioning to be a wormhole."
His jokes persisted, and yet this time again, no one laughed.
As Jung left the room without looking back or waiting for a response, he thought about his future with this teacher.
’I doubt I can learn something from him. Only the system knows which classes I need to attend.’
Bouncing around the halls, Jung went downstairs, emerging like a slacker who was skipping his lessons.
Fortunately, everyone was busy studying, with no soul in sight, the entire academy looked deserted.
"Let’s go outside!" Nero pleaded.
She liked the rest she got in Jung’s heart, but it was exhausting to constantly stay in one place.
Desire to move was ignited and burnt even Jung, who also wanted to escape the academy and meet the players.
Not knowing how he could get the resources this early in his student life, conning players was the sole idea that motivated him to take such risks.
However, Jung was confident that Snowshade and maybe even Lilia could feed him some pills.
He had work to do on that front, but as a future saviour of the world, he would get more than that.
Before that, Jung had to find a way to run off from the academy, but with no magical door or Walt around, his options were limited, if not non-existent.
Lady Luck fancied Jung once again after he reached the first floor and encountered the principal standing in one of the small halls.
Lilia wasn’t alone.
Her two assistants were with her, helping her carry the orbs.
"Do you want me to give you a hand?" Jung asked without hiding the fact that he skipped the very first class.
He spoke and acted politely only to Lilia, as her authority stood above all, while her vibe easily clicked with Jung, and the boy didn’t find any reason not to respect the woman.
Lilia smiled when she saw Jung.
Not asking about his absence in the auditorium, she nodded and said, "There is nothing you can do, sweetheart, but the offer is appreciated. Care to join me for tea?"
Squinting his eyes to not lose focus, Jung agreed and went with her, leaving the assistants behind.
Her office was one floor above Snowshade’s.
Five minutes later, the tea was poured into two cups. Jung smelt the aroma and exclaimed. "Feels expensive and delicious."
"Know anything about teas?" Lilia asked, curious.
"You could say that . . ." Jung went on rambling about the diverse varieties of tea he had drunk while sharing his experiences.
A few minutes went by, and Jung truly enjoyed Lilia’s company, causing doubts to surface in Jung’s mind.
’She is doing something,’ he thought, especially since he was clueless about the abilities possessed by those at the highest tiers.
[Be careful,] the system confirmed his suspicion. [I know her and believe me she is no ordinary woman.]
In his vision, there were no colourful particles to reveal Lilia’s use of the archetype powers, but Jung didn’t trust his perception or his familiarity with the capabilities of those at the top.
The time kept going, and turmoil gripped his heart.
But it wasn’t the end.
Something even more unexpected happened when Lilia mentioned the last name Jung was expecting to hear that day.
"Ophelia, or should I say Elara, was your sister. Am I right?"
The Principal had a knowing smile, but it was impossible to read what was hidden behind her smile.
