Chapter 17: Chapter 17: Shameless Woman

In the restaurant.

Ethan Yardley once again ordered a table full of Serena’s favorite dishes.

But when he saw that Serena was barely eating, not even taking a single bite of many dishes, he asked with concern:

"What’s wrong? Is the food not to your liking?"

Serena shook her head.

"Then why are you eating so little?"

"I’ll eat more fruit."

As she spoke, Serena pulled the fruit platter closer and began eating large mouthfuls.

Ethan Yardley elegantly lifted a piece of steak to his lips. After swallowing, he looked at Serena and asked, "Will you come back with me after we eat?"

Serena nodded like an obedient child. "Okay~~"

"No more tantrums from now on."

"Mm-hmm."

She kept nodding.

Suddenly, a thought occurred to her. Serena lifted her gaze to the man across from her and asked in a low voice,

"Mister, do you really not need me to have a baby anymore?"

Hearing this, Ethan looked at her from across the table. "You’re still young and in school. We won’t have one for now."

"But what if I do get pregnant?" Serena blurted out.

Ethan’s sharp brows knitted together. "You’re pregnant?"

Serena froze for a second, then quickly shook her head to explain. "I mean, what if I got pregnant in the meantime?"

"I won’t let you get pregnant," he said, his tone certain.

Serena, "..."

’Mister really doesn’t want me to have a baby anymore.’

’Even if I did get pregnant, he wouldn’t allow it.’

Her head drooped in disappointment. Serena quickly busied herself with eating fruit, trying to hide her inner turmoil. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮

After lunch, the two of them returned to The Sovereign Villa.

After getting out of the car, Serena looked at the magnificent building before her and suddenly stopped in her tracks.

Ethan looked back at her. "What’s wrong?"

"Does that woman really have to live with us?" Serena asked.

Although Mister had explained to her why he was indulging that woman, she was still a woman insistent on marrying him. Serena didn’t want to live under the same roof as her love rival.

’It’s just too sickening.’

"She can’t see anything right now, and her leg is injured. If she doesn’t live here, I’ll have to move out to live with her and take care of her. Do you want to come home to an empty house every day?"

Of course, Serena didn’t want to be left alone in an empty house again.

She hurried forward, grabbed his hand, and said with a pout,

"You’re the one who drove me away. So now you have to carry me inside. That way, that woman can’t say I have the nerve to come back after already leaving."

Ethan, "..."

’Did I drive her away?’

’She clearly ran off on her own.’

Feeling a little helpless, Ethan still stepped back and swept her small frame into his arms.

This time it was a princess carry.

But Serena wouldn’t have it. "Don’t carry me like this. Change it."

"???"

Ethan was exasperated. He actually had to carry her according to her specific instructions.

He had never met a woman who dared to make so many demands of him.

"Do it like you used to. You carried that woman this way, and I don’t want to be the same as her."

Ethan complied with her demand, sliding his hands under her bottom to hoist her up so she was clinging to his front like a koala.

Serena wrapped her arms around the man’s neck, finally satisfied. "Let’s go. I’m only coming back because Mister carried me."

"..."

’Sigh! Women are so much drama.’

Sylvia Schuyler sat on the sofa in the living room. When she saw a message from her subordinate saying Ethan’s car had arrived, she quickly deleted the history, hid her phone, and continued to wander around blindly with her cane.

Then, out of the corner of her eye, she saw Ethan carrying Serena back in.

A pang of bitterness shot through her heart, and her resentment reached its peak.

The next second!

She threw her cane aside and fell to the ground.

Ethan, who was carrying Serena into the house, also saw Sylvia sprawled on the floor. He quickly put Serena down and strode over.

"Sylvia, are you alright? Didn’t I tell you to stay in your room and not move around?"

Sylvia continued her blind act, fumbling to grab for Ethan.

"Ethan, you’re back! I just wanted to familiarize myself with the surroundings. Don’t worry, Mrs. Miller brought me down. I’m fine."

"Let’s get you up."

As Ethan helped her up, Sylvia deliberately tried to hug him, but he just supported her as they walked toward the sofa.

Standing a short distance away, Serena watched, a sour feeling of jealousy churning inside her.

’It’s so sour.’

’But what can I do?’

’Mister is only treating that woman this way because he feels he wronged her, that he’s the reason she can no longer be a mother.’

’And I, Serena Yardley, have to be understanding. I have to accept what Mister is doing for Sylvia.’

’Heaven knows how much courage it takes to watch the man I love dote on another woman with my own two eyes.’

Struggling to hide the profound pain in her heart, Serena walked step by step toward the two people in the living room.

Seeing Serena approach, Sylvia pretended to clutch at Ethan and asked,

"Ethan, did you bring Serena back? As long as she can accept me living here, I’ll pretend the previous incident never happened. I don’t blame her either."

However!

The moment Serena heard this, she flared up and shot back at Sylvia,

"What do you mean, ’pretend it never happened’? What right do you have to blame me? You’re the one who threw yourself down the stairs! Who do you think you are, blaming anyone?"

Provoking Serena into an outburst was exactly what Sylvia wanted.

As soon as Serena lost her temper, Sylvia immediately put on a frail act and leaned against Ethan’s chest.

"Ethan, I really don’t blame her anymore. I just want to live peacefully with her."

"Sylvia, do you have no shame?! What right do you have to blame me? It wasn’t me who..."

"Serena."

Serena’s words were cut short by Ethan’s cold voice. His sharp gaze fixed on her as he instructed, "Go to your room."

Serena, indignant, retorted, "Mister, don’t tell me even you..."

"I told you to go to your room," Ethan repeated, his tone icing over.

Serena felt incredibly wronged. Angrily, she stormed upstairs.

Sylvia smiled to herself in triumph, but she continued to cling to Ethan, refusing to let go.

Using that same frail voice, she said, "Ethan, it’s all my fault. I’m the one who put you in a difficult position. But if I were a normal woman, I wouldn’t..."

"Sylvia."

Ethan cut her off coldly. "I don’t care if she pushed you down the stairs or not. I’ve already punished her. This matter is over. Don’t bring it up again."

Sylvia, "..."

She wasn’t an idiot. She could tell Ethan was protecting that brat.

Although she was furious, Sylvia still put on a magnanimous air and said,

"I understand. As long as she doesn’t cause trouble for me, I won’t hold it against her."

"Mm."

Ethan looked over at Mrs. Miller, who was standing a short distance away. "Come here."

Mrs. Miller hurried over to Ethan’s side and bowed her head. "Yes, sir?"

"From now on, you will take care of all of Miss Schuyler’s daily needs. Can you handle it? If you can’t, we’ll hire two more maids to help you."

Mrs. Miller quickly replied, "Miss Schuyler is a grown woman, she’s easy to take care of. It’s fine, I can handle it."

Knowing her master disliked having too many staff in the house, Mrs. Miller naturally refused the offer to hire more maids.

Ethan waved a hand to dismiss Mrs. Miller, then turned back to Sylvia.

"From now on, call Mrs. Miller if you need anything. I have to work. I can’t be by your side 24/7."

Sylvia pretended to be very understanding. "Mm, I know."

"Then sit here and don’t move. If you want to walk around, call Mrs. Miller. I’m going upstairs to change and then head to the office."

Sylvia nodded reluctantly. "Okay."
