Sir, Please Sign Here to Get a Divorce-Chapter 21: Provoking Her to Her Face
The moment Sylvia Schuyler leaned in to kiss him, Ethan Yardley’s face darkened and he dodged away.
He looked at the woman beside him and asked, "Can you see now?"
Sylvia Schuyler panicked and replied guiltily, "No, of course not."
"If you can’t see, then don’t move around. Just stay here. I’m going to change into some loungewear."
With that, Ethan Yardley stood up, left Sylvia Schuyler behind, and strode upstairs.
...
In her room, Serena Yardley angrily and frantically slammed a pillow onto the floor. When that didn’t relieve her anger, she stomped on it viciously a couple of times.
’What was with his attitude just now? He was clearly enjoying having Sylvia Schuyler lean on him.’
’He said he was just indulging her to make up for the harm he’d caused, but from the looks of it, even he can’t resist the temptation of a beautiful woman.’
’Men really are all the same. They won’t refuse any woman who takes the initiative.’
Furious, Serena Yardley stomped on the pillow on the floor a few more times.
From the doorway, the man’s mild voice drifted over coolly. "Throwing a tantrum again?"
Serena Yardley turned to look, but after a single glance, she averted her eyes and plopped down on the floor. Hugging a cushion, she leaned against the foot of the bed and angrily refused to look at him again.
Ethan Yardley felt he had already explained things clearly enough, so he paid her no more mind and turned to go into the walk-in closet.
When he came out after changing, he saw Serena still sitting on the floor, fuming. He walked over and stood before her, looking down at her.
"Serena Yardley, my patience has its limits."
The implication was clear: she shouldn’t be throwing a fit for no reason.
Hearing this only made Serena Yardley angrier.
But she didn’t dare lose her temper. Feeling wronged, she could only look up to meet the man’s gaze and voice her suspicion. "I think Sylvia Schuyler is faking being blind."
"..."
"If you don’t believe me, we can test her."
Ethan Yardley’s face was expressionless. "How do you want to test her?"
Serena Yardley was quiet for a moment before saying bluntly,
"After dinner, send Mrs. Miller away. Leave the rest to me. Don’t worry, I won’t lay a finger on her."
"And what if she isn’t faking it?"
Ethan Yardley’s face grew cold. In a heavy voice, he said, "Serena Yardley, even if she is faking it, I have an obligation to take care of her. That’s a promise I made to her.
I just made things clear with you at the hotel this morning. Why are you starting trouble with me again?"
His attitude was now obviously much colder.
Serena Yardley finally realized that he was angry.
She quickly tried to explain, "I’m not starting trouble."
"If you’re not, then what are you doing sitting on the floor? Why were you taking your anger out on a pillow?"
Serena Yardley was speechless.
’So I’m not even allowed to take my anger out on a pillow?’
’I’m upset. Can’t I just vent my frustrations on an object by myself instead of throwing a tantrum at him?’
’Or does he expect me to see him wrapped up with another woman and still be able to chat and laugh with him cheerfully and calmly?’
Suddenly, Serena Yardley felt a sharp pain in her chest, like a painful spasm.
She lowered her head, not daring to say another word.
An intimidating chill emanated from Ethan Yardley. He threw out one last sentence: "If you don’t have proof, don’t go around casually slandering people."
He turned and left, his retreating figure cold and distant.
Serena Yardley stood there in a daze, her eyes betraying her by welling up with tears again.
’Was he warning me?’
’Does he think I’m slandering Sylvia Schuyler?’
’But if it wasn’t Sylvia Schuyler, who else in the world would want to harm me?’
’When I came home just now, I clearly saw Sylvia Schuyler looking at her phone.’
’A blind person can’t see anything. What would she be doing with a phone?’
Serena Yardley felt deeply wronged. She climbed into bed, burrowed under the covers, and tried her best to suppress her emotions and stop herself from crying.
’I can’t just burst into tears every time he’s harsh with me. I’m going to be a mother soon. I have to be strong.’
At dinnertime, Mrs. Miller came upstairs to call for Serena Yardley. "Miss Serena, it’s time to eat."
But Serena Yardley was unwilling to go downstairs. She just told Mrs. Miller, "Could you bring it up for me? I don’t want to go down and see that woman."
Mrs. Miller replied kindly, "Of course."
Downstairs in the dining room, Sylvia Schuyler and Ethan Yardley were seated and having their meal.
When Ethan Yardley saw Mrs. Miller come down alone, he asked casually, "She’s not eating?"
Mrs. Miller smiled and said, "Miss Serena might be feeling a little unwell. I’ll bring her food up to her."
"Make her come down and eat," Ethan Yardley said, his tone firm.
Mrs. Miller was suddenly in a bind. "It’s... it’s no trouble, sir. It’s the same if I bring it up to her."
"Why are you indulging her? Make her come down and eat."
Left with no choice, Mrs. Miller went upstairs again to get Serena Yardley.
Not wanting to make things difficult for Mrs. Miller, Serena Yardley put on her shoes and came downstairs, her eyes red and puffy. She sat down in the seat next to Ethan Yardley.
Ethan Yardley looked at her, saw her expression of someone who had suffered a terrible injustice, and personally placed some food in her bowl.
Serena Yardley didn’t dare refuse. Not daring to even lift her head, she just kept her head down and hastily shoveled rice into her mouth.
Sylvia Schuyler observed the atmosphere between the two of them. ’Serena Yardley must have been throwing another unreasonable fit for Ethan to treat her like this, right?’ she thought.
’It would be even better if I could provoke Serena Yardley into a full-blown meltdown.’
"Ethan, are there any other tasty dishes?"
Sylvia Schuyler suddenly called out in a delicate voice.
Ethan Yardley gestured to Mrs. Miller, who was standing nearby.
Mrs. Miller quickly picked up some food with chopsticks and brought it to Sylvia Schuyler’s mouth. "Miss Schuyler, I’ll feed you."
Sylvia Schuyler’s expression faltered. Even though it was a dish she disliked, she was pretending to be blind, so she had no choice but to bite the bullet and eat it.
Ethan Yardley paid Sylvia no more attention and looked back at Serena Yardley. "Why are you only eating rice? Have some of the other dishes."
Serena Yardley pouted but picked up her chopsticks to get some food.
Seeing that she was only eating vegetables, Ethan Yardley placed a piece of pork rib in her bowl.
Serena Yardley didn’t dare to throw a fit and could only eat it obediently.
As soon as she finished eating, she stood up, wanting to leave. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
Ethan Yardley grabbed her small hand and gestured for her to go sit on the sofa. Then, he looked at Mrs. Miller and said,
"Mrs. Miller, please go out and buy a few pounds of grapes in a little while."
"Of course," Mrs. Miller quickly replied.
So, after dinner was over, Mrs. Miller helped Sylvia Schuyler to the living room and sat her down, then looked at Ethan Yardley and said,
"Well, Sir, Miss Schuyler, please make yourselves comfortable. I’m going to go buy the fruit now."
After Mrs. Miller left, Sylvia Schuyler spoke up with a smile, "Ethan, isn’t Serena Yardley here? I haven’t heard her at all."
In fact, Serena Yardley was sitting right beside them.
But Ethan Yardley deliberately said, "She went back upstairs to read. It’s just the two of us here. You just sit tight. I’ll be working right next to you."
Sylvia Schuyler replied with a dry laugh, "Oh, okay."
Right in front of Sylvia Schuyler, Ethan Yardley pulled the person beside him onto his lap.
Serena Yardley, not understanding what was happening, scrunched up her face and looked at him without a sound.
It seemed Ethan Yardley was doing it on purpose.
He deliberately held the person on his lap and began to kiss her passionately, all right in front of Sylvia Schuyler.
Serena Yardley seemed to understand. ’Is he testing whether Sylvia Schuyler can see?’
While letting the man kiss her cheeks and neck, Serena Yardley secretly watched Sylvia Schuyler’s reaction.
It wasn’t that Sylvia Schuyler didn’t see what Ethan Yardley was doing.
But no matter how furious she was inside, she pretended everything was fine, bottling up all her displeasure and resentment.
After all, she was the one pretending to be blind and unable to see anything.
Perhaps because it had been a long time since he had touched Serena, just a few kisses were enough to arouse Ethan Yardley.
He completely disregarded Sylvia Schuyler’s presence and kissed her fervently.
Serena Yardley held her breath, nearly lost in his passion.
This continued until Sylvia Schuyler, who was sitting nearby, suddenly stood up and bumped right into the coffee table. With a loud CLATTER, her cane fell, and she tumbled to the ground with it.
Only then did Ethan Yardley snap back to his senses. He quickly lifted Serena Yardley off his lap and reached out to help Sylvia Schuyler up.
"Didn’t I tell you not to move?"
Sylvia Schuyler immediately said, "I... I just thought you must be tired from working, Ethan, and I wanted to get you a glass of water. I’m sorry, Ethan. I’ve made trouble for you again."
"How are you supposed to pour water when you can’t see anything? Look, you’ve scraped your knee."
Ethan Yardley gestured to Serena Yardley. "Go get the first-aid kit."
Serena Yardley got up reluctantly to retrieve the first-aid kit.
Sylvia Schuyler put on a fake, innocent act and asked, "Ethan, didn’t you say Serena Yardley went upstairs? Who are you asking to get the first-aid kit?"
"She came back down."
"Oh~"
Sylvia Schuyler said no more, but inside, she was seething with rage.
’Trying to provoke me and expose my fake blindness right in front of me? Not a chance.’
’If I didn’t have some acting skills, how would I, Sylvia Schuyler, dare to cling to Ethan Yardley’s side and demand he take responsibility for me?’
