Space Odyssey: Spectre-Chapter 176: Hoodwink Found
Chapter 176: Hoodwink Found
Vana only moved slightly and the whip cracked again. This time it was aimed at her. But Vana was able to deflect it with one of the claws but a piece of metal flew off and a green hexagonal pattern appeared for a moment before shattering. It was the shielding technology that the armor had.
"Oh? What interesting personal shields you have. I would love to test how durable it is." The whip woman turned her attention to Nina who somehow closed the distance. One second she was standing next to Vana, the next she was next to the whip woman.
Nina tried to stab the woman with one of her knives. But the woman grabbed the sharp end with her gauntlet and a blue shield covered it. She then stepped back and moved the hand with the whip. But before she got a chance to attack, Vana fired a bullet from her wrist mounted gun.
The whip woman had to raise the whip to block the bullet. While at the same time Nina pressed forward attacking with a knife in each hand. Trying to put the woman off guard. The whip woman was being pushed back.
"Naughty girls. Two on one is not fair. Let’s even the playing field." The whip woman chuckled despite her precarious position as Vana raised her arm to fire at her again.
Nina suddenly stopped and looked over at Vana. "Duck!" She then threw a knife and Vana dropped to the ground just as it sailed past her. Sinking into something she could not see. As the knife was sticking out of something that was standing there, invisible.
Above the knife was a red glowing line. The person appeared for a moment as its body materialized. Vana quickly stood up and shoved one of her claws through its chest and tore out a chunk of organs and mechanical parts. A splatter of blood covered her arm and the surroundings as it collapsed on the ground.
Vana tossed the chunk towards the whip woman and Nina. "Do you have her?" Vana asked as Nina caught the chunk of organs and mechanical parts by the handle of her knife.
"I got her." Nina answered as she pressed forward with her attack.
Another glowing sword edge appeared near her. She dashed toward it. Sticking one claw through the approximate spot where its chest was located. It froze mid motion and then Vana moved behind it and used the other claw to tear a hole in its throat.
A spout of blue blood launched from the person’s neck. These were more mutants with this blue blood. She used her claws to press on the neck and the blood came out more vigorously. She then moved the body around. Spraying the area with the blue blood. Covering the other two invisible mutants in blue blood. She tossed the body to the side as one of the invisible mutants began moving towards her.
Vana raised her arms and fired out of both arm mounted guns. There was a burst of blue blood as both of the invisible mutants’ heads exploded. She then turned her attention to Nina and the whip woman. They were still fighting down the hall but Nina was making weird movements.
Almost like she was dodging something else at the same time as she was dodging the strikes from the whip. There were glowing red gashes all along the walls, floor, and roof. Every few seconds there was a loud boom as the whip moved.
Vana took a running stance and ran forward with her claws forward blocking her body from being hit. Nina stepped back and ignored the whip woman who turned her attention to Vana. As Vana ran past Nina she saw her dodge a heated edge and then stab into the air.
Vana flinched as another sonic boom occurred and felt the impact on one of her arms. Then the whip woman tried to stop her with her gauntlet. But Vana pushed the gauntlet to the side with one of her claws.
Then with the other claw she stabbed into the woman’s gut. There was another sonic boom as she moved the whip. This time the whip wrapped around the arm she had in the woman’s gut.
Vana felt the whip hit her armored arm. She also saw a chunk of the arm mounted gun fly through the air and the green hexagonal patterned shield shatter again. This time she ran forward carrying the woman with her.
She ran through something that gave resistance as her other clawed hand cut into the whip woman’s leg. She screamed something before Vana tripped and her claws tore through the woman’s body.
Vana stood up in a daze and looked around. She was now covered in red blood instead of the blue stuff that had been in the mutants. "Nina you good?" Vana glanced back out to see Nina walking through the doorway.
She was tossing the decapitated head of what Vana was assuming was the invisible mutant that she had turned around to fight. "I am good. But your armor looks really damaged- Oh?" Nina looked to one side of the room.
Vana followed her gaze.
Apparently she had stumbled into the room where the target was located. It is a large circular room with an array of controls and screens. The one she went through was the only door. Which had been the whip woman’s bed of death as she was torn up into parts and a bloody mess.
On the other side of the room was an elderly man in a wheelchair. He had a gray complexion while the shape of his face was similar to the man they were looking for. But he looked... a lot less healthy.
But standing between them and Lord Hoodwink were another pair of mutants. But they looked like the bodyguards that Nina and Jace had described in their report from their time at the Leonair Palace. The white one walked over to the side and slammed their fist against a big red button.
"Hello, I believe I am talking to Spectre Nina. It is a pleasure to see you again." Lord Hoodwink spoke weakly as a giant glass wall slammed shut followed by a noise and a layer of blue appearing over the glass wall. "I believe you have met Yang several times before." He weakly waved at the white armored bodyguard woman. "This is her twin sister Yin."
"Yin and Yang. Your personal bodyguards. You know they are going to die if they are locked on this side with us." Nina chuckled as she threw the decapitated head at the wall. The head froze and there was a loud zap before the head fell to the ground smoking. "Well that is just mean."
Lord Hoodwink chuckled, "I apologize that is just how much I wish to live. But my bodyguards want me to live even more than I do."
"Why would anyone want a monster like you to live?" Vana asked as she moved with Nina. Nina stood opposite Yang, while Vana stood opposite of Yin.
"Because I saved them." Hoodwink answered. "They were on a planet that was suffering because the federation could not afford to help their village. The Crystoph Federation is made up of a bunch of greedy men and women who only want to profit off the weak. Their village was suffering because of the pollution that the factories in the city were producing."
"So you just helped them out of the goodness of your own heart?" Vana asked.
"I... you are from Woltar aren’t you?" Hoodwink pointed out. "I apologize but I have been focused on the soldiers from the Vexical Empire. More specifically I have been focused on their commander, Spectre Jace."
"Oh, I am not offended. But I do want to kill you because I am sure the seventy-six people we suspect you had from the Woltar are already dead." Vana responded as her claws clicked as she moved her fingers.
"Yes they are, I apologize but it was all for the process of science and our eventual evolution." Hoodwink answered in a tired voice. "But as I was saying. It seems only you two managed to get aboard my spaceship. Unfortunately your boss, Spectre Jace, did not. In fact the last time I saw him was on the third floor before the blackout. Then he just disappeared."
Vana and Nina exchanged a look.
"Yeah, speaking of which I should give the order to evacuate the planet. Python and his mechanics are still in the structure." Hoodwink spun his wheelchair and moved to one of the screens. Weakly tapping a few times. "Oh dear... it seems that Python and the rest of the assassin division were killed. When did this happen? Well regardless I just need to start up the sequence to..."
"What should we do with these two?" One of the twin’s asked, surprising both Vana and Nina.
"Oh? Those two, you should capture them alive. They will be perfect specimens for my next series of experiments." Hoodwink answered.
