When Alanis and Harlow arrived back at the estate, exhaustion clung to them like a heavy cloak. They had barely slept the night before, but duty called, and they returned to Alanis’s Villa early in the morning, only to be greeted by the very people they least wanted to see.

They had the audacity to come here after everything.

Elisa and Garth stood waiting, fake smiles plastered on their faces. They had decided to visit Alanis and Harlow this early even if they had barely gotten any sleep themselves. The two women have been up all night devising a plan to save George and Claudia. They were ready to bend the rules for their children no matter what it took. ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom

Elisa, in particular, acted as if nothing had happened. In her mind, Claudia’s actions were nothing more than a small mistake. So what if she had hurt old Charlotte? The woman should have been dead by now anyway.

"Harlow, Alanis," Garth greeted with an eager smile, her voice filled with forced warmth.

"How is mother doing?" She continued.

Neither of them responded.

They didn’t stop walking either.

Didn’t even spare her a glance.

They simply walked past, climbing the stairs as if Elisa and Garth were nothing more than dust beneath their feet.

Elisa scoffed, glaring at their backs. Who the hell do they think they are?

Then... Almost immediately... A loud, piercing shriek shattered the morning silence.

"Who the hell are you?! What right do you have to touch me?!"

Claudia’s shrill voice rang through the estate, followed by George’s enraged shout.

"Hey! Don’t you dare lay a finger on my wife!"

Then, more chaos...

"What do you think you’re doing?! Do you know who you’re messing with?"

Elisa and Garth exchanged a panicked look before rushing outside.

The sight that greeted them drained the blood from Garth’s face.

Men in black suits, Alanis’s men were dragging Claudia and George toward a sleek black car.

Their hands and feet were bound in thick iron chains like criminals.

Claudia thrashed wildly, her expensive silk dress now in tatters, her perfectly styled hair a mess. Her heels were broken with one leg missing from her feet.

"No! Let me go!" she screamed, her face contorted in terror.

Elisa bolted forward, her breath coming in quick gasps.

"Where are you taking my daughter?!" she shrieked at the men, but they didn’t even acknowledge her presence. It was as if she wasn’t even there.

"Mum, please! Help me!" Claudia sobbed, struggling against her restraints. Her screams only grew more desperate as they shoved her toward the car.

George, too, was fighting against the men holding him, but it was useless.

"No! Don’t you dare hurt my wife! Let me go!" He bellowed, veins bulging in his neck as he thrashed like a caged animal. His struggles meant nothing.

The men didn’t falter.

Alanis had given the order.

"Alanis! ALANIS! ALANIS, YOU COWARD!!!" George screamed, his voice hoarse with rage.

But Alanis never came.

Garth stood frozen, watching the scene with wide, disbelieving eyes.

No.

No, no, no.

This was exactly what she had feared.

She had warned George and Claudia to run, to leave before Alanis returned.

But those two fools never listened.

They thought they could win.

Now look at them.

Without another word, she turned and rushed back inside.

She needed to stop this before it was too late.

As she entered the grand hall of the Villa, she saw Alanis stepping out with Harlow.

His expression was unreadable. Cold. Unmoved. Garth ran toward him. Desperate was an understatement, her hands were shaking as she stared at Alanis

"Alanis, please don’t do this!" she pleaded, desperation thick in her voice.

"George is your brother. No matter what he’s done, you can forgive him."

Alanis didn’t respond.

He simply stared at her, his silence heavier than any words he could have spoken.

"Mother wouldn’t want this," Garth whispered, her voice breaking.

"She would never support this."

Still, Alanis said nothing, his eyes turning lazy as he stared at her. He walked past her and stepped outside with a smile on his lips as he watched the people being carried away and Elisa fighting for her daughter to be free.

She was being all dramatic, rolling on the floor and hitting the car her daughter was in. No one knew classy Elisa could be like this, but she was.

Harlow was about to step out with Alanis when Garth held her hands. "Where do you think you’re going?" Garth asked staring at the girl. Her bright green eyes stared back at the woman.

"Where else, Mother-in-law?" she replied sweetly.

Garth’s grip tightened.

"How can you sleep at night, being this heartless? You poisoned Alanis’s mind against us. You turned him against his own family."

Harlow yanked her hand free, causing Garth to stumble slightly.

"I did nothing," Harlow said smoothly. "Alanis simply opened his eyes and saw you for what you are. How does it feel? Bitter, isn’t it?"

Garth’s eyes darkened.

"You ungrateful girl. If I hadn’t agreed to your marriage, Alanis would be with someone else."

Harlow chuckled.

"I divorced him, remember?" she said, tilting her head. "He begged me publicly, signed a new contract, and went against you just to be with me."

Garth’s lips curled in distaste.

"I don’t think that was your doing." She clicked her tongue.

"Don’t think I’m stupid not to know the reason you’re here." Garth stiffened. "You want me to cry and beg Alanis to save your son," Harlow said dramatically as if to cry as she mocked the woman before her.

"Isn’t that what you’re supposed to do?" Garth barked. "How dare you try to divide my family? You should be begging Alanis to save George, you don’t want to incur the wrath of George." Harlow laughed softly.

"Funny," she said. "Where was this energy when your stepson was being punished yesterday?"

Garth’s expression hardened.

"He suffered because of you," she hissed. "Not because of anyone else."

Harlow leaned in, her voice a whisper.

"And now, George will suffer because of Claudia."

Then, without another glance, she turned and stepped outside.
