The Fallen Hero Reincarnates as the Demon King's Son-Chapter 20 - 19 - Mana Affinities
Chapter 20 - 19 - Mana Affinities
Fleur lay on her back as she replayed the scene in her mind, trying to make sense of it. However, no matter how much time she spent, she had no idea how Caliste had gotten behind her and made her fall.
There had been no indication.
His knees hadn't lowered. His stance hadn't changed whatsoever.
'Was it a skill?' She frowned.
Fleur hadn't felt the use of mana, so her conclusion was that Caliste had used a skill.
"Are you that shaken up?" Caliste said with a smirk. "Alright, for the next two strikes, I won't move. That should make things more balanced between us two."
Fleur frowned at those words. He was confident—way too confident. But right now, he had the strength to back it up.
It was the first time in Fleur's life that she was losing to someone her age. It was humiliating, and she was just lost for a few seconds.
'Should I use my mana affinity?' she thought with a slight frown.
But she decided against it. She would only use it if her next attack failed. That way, she would be able to assure her victory and dominance over Caliste.
'I need to go all out. Pity that I don't have my weapon with me...'
She stood up and removed the dust from her pants. Her expression complex and serious, she stared at Caliste, who was still acting like nothing could hurt him.
Fleur clicked her tongue. 'I'll show you that you can't underestimate a Champlin! I'll make you eat your words about my grandfather!'
Caliste yawned. "Are you going to attack me, or can you only look at me from afar?"
"You!"
Fleur took a deep breath. She knew that Caliste was only trying to rile her up. She needed to stay calm and composed; that was the only way she could win against him.
She took three deep breaths as she activated all the skills in her arsenal.
The first one was [Speed Boost].
The second was [Physical Boost].
And the third one was [Nature's Shield].
The first two skills were self-explanatory. However, the third was quite different, and it was a skill that only Fleur had managed to master out of all the elves in the past 100 years. No one since her grandfather had managed to understand the skill.
After all, to use the skill, it required the help of a certain arrogant and haughty individual. That was the main reason why most elves were never able to learn it.
A blue aura suddenly surrounded her entire body.
There was only [Nature's Shield] that was not yet activated. However, the skill was all a question of timing. She just had to time it right.
'Let's see how you're going to stop this.'
Fleur closed her eyes as blue sparks began coming off from the soles of her shoes, as if lightning was forming under her feet.
She placed herself in the stance of a sprinter, wanting to make sure that Caliste wouldn't be able to react to her attack.
She closed her
eyes, calmed her heartbeat once more, and...
-Swoooosh!
A blue lightning bolt appeared right outside of the Demonic Academy.
-Cling!
-Clack!
The windows exploded because of how fast Fleur was going. She was now even faster than the speed of sound.
Caliste looked at that speed and couldn't help but be impressed. Without his system, he would have lost against her. She was a force to be reckoned with. There was no doubt about that in her mind, and she was a lot more superior to him back then.
'She's like a real-life cheat...' Caliste thought, shaking his head slightly. 'She could be a good addition to my team if I were to take revenge. However, for that, I'll have to break her mentally and tell her the truth about what happened 100 years ago...'

Caliste delayed his thoughts for another time as he needed to focus this time around.
He planted both his feet in the ground, ready for defense.
Right as her fist was about to make contact with his face, Caliste barely managed to dodge it.
'Phew. I would have definitely died if that hit me. My head would have exploded in one go without a doubt...'
Caliste released a sigh of relief, as there was now only one strike left.
But as he thought Fleur would take her time, a strong black aura started exuding from her body.
'Her mana affinity is death?' Caliste frowned.
Fleur was an elf.
Elves were a lot more likely to obtain an affinity related to life or nature, like wind. It was the first time in both of his lifespans that he had ever seen an elf use the Death Affinity.
'I can see why she was so confident now...' Caliste thought with a small frown.
The Death Affinity is one of the rarest mana affinities that someone can obtain; usually, the only beings who can awaken it are those who were on the verge of death and managed to overcome such a challenge.
'How strange... Elves are a lot more prone to awaken the Life Affinity...'
Caliste wasn't sure what to think at the moment. He needed more time, and time was not something he had.
Now that she had shown what her mana affinity was and coated her entire body with it, the moment her mana touched Caliste's body, his entire body would be corrupted and dragged into the pits of death.
He would need a very capable healer to get out of such a situation.
However, there was something that no one in this Academy knew.
Caliste's mana affinity awakened a little more than seven years ago after the Demon King had removed the curse from his mana circuits.
"What a cute little energy..." Caliste muttered with a smile. "To think an elf would awaken the Death Affinity; it's impressive, really. However, that won't be enough."
Caliste then called upon his mana, which was of two distinct colors: white and black.
Life and Death.
