Chapter 187: Another woman (2)

"There goes the princess. Where is she heading now?" Linda questioned, watching as the long line of maids hurried after the princess.

"There are young girls her age here for her to play with. She is eager to sit with them," Hazel answered.

After meeting with the princess in secret, Hazel managed to clear up the misunderstanding about the dinner and promised to meet with Sofia more often so Sofia wouldn’t be lonely with Tobias busy and her parents out of the palace.

"The days are going by fast. It felt like just yesterday you were getting married and now how many weeks have gone by? Two?" Linda asked, counting after.

"It is going to be three weeks. To me, it feels like time is going by slowly in the palace. I have been curious if it is a bit faster for anyone living outside," said Hazel.

It had everything to do with the fact she had only been gathering what the maids said about those hurting them and planning a gathering for women which should be held in a few days. Time moved slowly as there was nothing much to distract her from it.

"I would enjoy some wine right about now but they’ve removed it. It would be a good day to enjoy some with you or at night with Tobias. It is awful," Hazel said, wishing she had thoroughly enjoyed wine the last time she was served it.

Linda chuckled, finding Hazel to be pouting like a child. "Do you recall the time we snuck to taste wine when your father was busy? We went out to the large tree in your garden and were almost caught by one of the gardeners. You nearly hit me in the head with it when you tried to hide the evidence."

Hazel joined in laughing as she remembered the day clearly. "We did all that only for my father to find out and have a sip with us. How could he scold us after? We were certain we were enjoying good wine only to find out it was the harmless one. Oh to be young again."

"I had no problems then. Now each way I turn I am hearing about a child. There is no news yet," Hazel said, touching her belly. "It is the only reason I wish for time to go by fast to give Tobias good news."

Hazel had stuck to taking the medicines provided to help her be healthier for carrying a child. She had listened when some dishes were no longer served to her at dinner and followed the kingdom’s strange beliefs to help her get pregnant with a child. ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm

Hazel only needed to wait for the doctor to come when it would be time to tell. It would be an exciting wait if she would not be questioned endlessly about a child.

"You shouldn’t think too much about it because you’ll just worry yourself and the prince won’t like that. I bought something special for you. In fact, I snuck it in here," Linda said, opening the small purse she brought with her to take out her handkerchief which wrapped up a few treats. "Courtesy of my mother."

Hazel’s mood changed upon seeing the small treats she used to have at Linda’s home. "I love your mother. The next time my family is here, I must invite her to join us."

"She will love that. You can thank her at Helena’s wedding. Take as many as you-"

"Your Majesty, allow me to taste it first," Julia said, stepping forward from the group of maids standing quietly at the side.

"Don’t be offended. They will taste something brought by my mother as if she would ever want to harm me. The only person they don’t suspect is Tobias as he brought me cookies from his time out of the palace and those were not inspected," Hazel explained.

So far, anything suspicious in her food was quickly detected. Many times it was just the colour of a drink looking off but there was no chance given for Hazel to drink it.

"It is fine," Julia replied, taking the treats from Linda to Hazel.

"Thank you, Julia. It is still a bit hard to get used to having someone test what might be harmful. Should anything ever happen to one of my maids, I don’t know what I would do. You can all have one," Hazel offered the maids as there were too many for her to eat alone. "I only need a few to share with Tobias."

"Knowing the king, he will not want to rid you of your treats and not take a single bite so you can eat all. Where is the king now? Is he in the palace?" Linda asked.

"I don’t know. All that matters is that he sometimes comes to me throughout the day and I see him whenever it is time to eat. I’ve gotten used to not seeing him for many hours of the day and then he comes to me tired. He’s in need of a break, but there is always something he has to look over. It is upsetting but what can I do?" Hazel sighed.

If she tied Tobias down to the bed to get him to take a break, the court would just come looking for him. Then Tobias was still so stuck on working hard to get all his work done to see her.

"Should I buy something to make the king sleep for a few days? Unable to move his body?" Hazel asked.

Linda was taken aback by Hazel’s plan. "I don’t wish to be a part of that. I don’t want my family at war with the palace should the king never wake and I don’t want you to be harmed. Helena’s wedding should be a day for him to not be working. Enjoy time with him then."

"I suppose that is better. Thank you," Hazel said after tea was placed before her. "This is why you must be in the palace. You bring reason to me. I hope I am not taking up your time. You still need to get married and I don’t want you to trouble yourself with me when you are busy."

"I am not busy. Becoming one of the queen’s ladies took away from the attention that I was not courting anyone. I’ve devoted my time to you so those around me are staying quiet about not having a husband," Linda answered.

"Or maybe your father has warned them not to say a word. You would have to be a fool to speak of you not getting married when your father and brothers would kill for you. Now that your gaze is away from Edgar-Oh, they are here again," Hazel said, looking below at two women walking by. "They are playing in my face."

Linda looked around for who Hazel was speaking about and spotted two young ladies she had never seen before. "Who are they?"

"Who else but women looking to get Tobias’s attention? They claim to be visiting their father’s working in the palace but I can see past that. I know their intentions but I can’t ask them to leave for simply walking around the palace. A child must come quickly," Hazel said, worried that talk of another woman would soon come up.
