The SSS Ranked Demon King Goes to the Hero Academy-Chapter 53: Fighting the Monsters of the Cracks. (4)
Marshmallow reacted quickly when it began to burn, beat its wings energetically, and moved as far as possible from the flames.
Its fluff had been completely scorched, but that was better than dying carbonized by the hydra’s flames.
The now bald cherub flapped its bat wings desperately until falling into Ariel’s arms.
"Oh my God, Marshmallow, what have they done to you?" the girl asked disconsolately, hugging the small cherub.
Marshmallow, while having managed to escape, had its body burned and its wings damaged.
It used those same wings to wrap around itself, as if hugging itself.
"I-I’m sorry, I’ve failed you," the small creature said with a thread of voice.
Ariel looked at it with teary eyes as she caressed it.
"Don’t say that. You’ve protected me many times. You haven’t failed me," Ariel said sadly as she hugged the cherub, afraid it would disappear.
The small creature writhed in the girl’s arms. The burns still stung.
"But what if I can’t stay by your side..." the small animal asked sadly.
Ariel shook her head energetically, as if wanting to push that terrible idea from her head.
"No! Don’t say that! You’ll be fine, you’ll see," Ariel assured sadly as she caressed the small charred creature.
The cherub was about to respond, but at that instant, a flash of light blinded them both.
Four heads had opened their jaws, combining fire and lightning into a single attack.
Two elements perfectly combined into a devastating attack.
Ariel had been distracted with Marshmallow’s situation, thus giving the hydra time to attack. 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖
While that was happening, Gerald had been trying to dodge and hide from the hydra while reciting a more complex summoning spell.
However, at that moment he was also blinded by that glow.
Ariel hugged the cherub tightly, realizing there was no possibility of escape at that moment.
She had put herself in a very dangerous situation.
Her wand wasn’t at hand, and she was hugging Marshmallow, which left her completely defenseless against such an attack.
The girl felt time stop when the attack began being expelled, but right then the ground beneath the hydra’s feet gave way.
The hydra fell suddenly into a hole in the ground, firing its attack right after.
The stream of super-hot plasma didn’t reach Ariel, but what was below.
She had landed on the Argos’s roof, however that attack was launched at ground level, hitting the wall below her.
The air roared before such a monstrous attack, which was able to vaporize part of the "ship," precisely the hallway where the heroes had been before.
Ariel blinked confused. Her eyes had dried from the fright.
A heat wave struck her from below as the roof she was on began to give way.
However, she was alive, and that was an achievement.
Wasting no time, the girl grabbed her staff and got on it to start flying again.
From above she could see it and understand it.
Noelia was touching the ground at that moment. She had surely altered the texture of the ground beneath the hydra’s feet to make it less resistant.
The hydra’s weight would do the rest of the work, making the surface give way and the floor break.
Quickly Noelia didn’t take long to alter the texture of the ground again to enclose the hydra in it, making only the heads protrude.
At that same instant, a large number of orcs armored with steel armor appeared. All of them spun chains to grab the hydra’s jaws and necks.
Apparently they were regaining control of the combat.
Ariel sighed somewhat relieved, but then looked at Marshmallow.
It was still alive, but that monster had damaged it quite a bit.
All because of her.
Throughout the entire combat, Ariel had been distracted, thinking about the stupid argument she had with Gerald, about multiple ways to bother him.
But her rage almost cost her life.
Not only her cherub’s, but hers.
All from being distracted by a stupid argument.
Ariel growled to herself. She couldn’t let her emotions hinder her life. She had to reconsider.
With her red hair waving in the air, the girl altered the course of the song that was playing.
While the hydra’s heads struggled to escape the chains’ control, Ariel changed the song that was playing.
In an instant, hundreds of colorful light explosions struck the hydra.
Ariel’s offensive had begun.
However, that had really been a mistake, a mistake the hydras wouldn’t waste at all.
The explosions weakened the chains, allowing the hydras to finally open their jaws, breaking the chains in the process.
"Shit, can someone tell me what the hell that bitch is doing?" Gerald wondered with clear annoyance.
His frustration was understandable. He had thought of a plan and was now carrying it out.
His plan was working perfectly, but then one of his supposed allies completely messed it up, weakening the chains and allowing the hydra to free itself.
A stupid move that had ruined his plan.
The hydra roared with fury, cracking the ground until breaking it, gaining more freedom of movement.
Noelia and Gerald moved away from the hydra as it fired flames, lightning, and light projectiles at the orcs, massacring them in an instant.
"Shit, what the hell do we do now?" Gerald wondered, seeing that disaster.
But without giving him time to reflect, a sonic blast struck him head-on, sending him flying and leaving him quite stunned.
On the other hand, a stream of pressurized water struck Noelia directly, pushing her away too.
"M-maybe I didn’t have the best idea," Ariel admitted as she flew through the "sky," seeing how her actions hadn’t had the best results.
At that instant, another hydra head aimed at her, expelling a golden glow that announced what Ariel’s fate would be at that moment.
However, right at the moment the hydra was going to fire its solidified light projectiles, a silhouette emerged from the ground, cutting the hydra’s neck in an instant with a clean slash, canceling its attack.
Ariel opened her eyes wide, surprised by the newcomer, and then, just before the girl noticed the newcomer, the hydra’s body was completely frozen in an instant, being covered by a shimmering layer of ice.
"HAHAHAHA! It seems there’s an interesting fight here," a voice then said, located right above the hydra’s head. "I wonder if I can join in."
Bīng Xuě had arrived.
