Transmigrated Into The Body Of The Cursed Prince Wife-Chapter 240: Dilemma
Chapter 240: Dilemma
Ave paced around the room, worried and restless. She knew in this day and age, a man was allowed to marry more than one wife, and as a prince, Lucian could take whatever woman he wanted. But the thought of sharing her husband with another woman unsettled her and squeezed at her heart, twisting it into an unbearable knot. She had wondered all this while what could be the reason behind Lucian’s hesitation in consummating their marriage, but the thought that he was not doing it because he feared he might hurt her did not come to her mind.
Was that why he grew fangs and claws whenever they were about to do it? Ave wondered.
She had read about how the Nazia were said to be greedy and had known they wouldn’t help them just like that without getting anything from it in return. They had welcomed them and clothed them, and now they expected Lucian to marry their princess before they would give him support. How could she live the rest of her life knowing her husband wasn’t hers alone? How could she sleep on nights when he would visit his other wife’s bed?
She couldn’t, for the life of her, imagine that. If Lucian couldn’t touch her and he could touch Nina every night, what reason was there for him to come to her bed after he married the princess? Ave was in a quiet dilemma as she couldn’t think of what to do.
Princess Nina had been shameless to come to her, telling her to talk to Lucian about marrying her. What did she take her for? A fool who would jump into convincing her husband to marry another woman? If it had been before, perhaps Ave would have been that fool and talked Lucian into marrying the princess to get him the throne, but she was no fool, and she wasn’t willing to share him.
But if she didn’t convince him, where would they go if they got sent away? How would Lucian fight the Empress before she destroyed the world and caused everyone to cease to exist, as in the future Ave had known? The history books had said she would rule the entire Empire into damnation, and though Ave had no idea where Lucian was then when all that happened, the history had said all the sons and daughters of Alaric died at her hands after she took control. If Ave let her jealousy get in the way of duty, things would surely happen the same way again. Elara would destroy everything just like she had the first time, and this time, Ave would fall into the ruins with everyone else.
On one hand was the desperate need to keep her man for herself, and on the other was the many lives that would get lost if she allowed her jealousy to win and Lucian lost the support here. But then, what if she was able to provide the heir they wanted? What if Lucian slept with her and nothing happened to her? If he was able to consummate their marriage, surely the Nazia wouldn’t force him into marrying Nina, right?
If she could carry his child without any problems, then she could keep him to herself. But the problem here was that Lucian would never touch her, knowing he could take her life. The last time she seduced him, she’d ended up sleeping in bed without him; she didn’t want that again.
She had to think before tonight and come to a conclusion on what to do. It was either she made him make love to her, or she convinced him to marry Nina. She dreaded doing both.
Even though now that she knew she had another family member she could run to if anything were to happen, she didn’t want to lose her husband nor his affection. Hence, whatever she had to do, she had to consider it carefully.
Ave went on with her daily routine in the palace as she waited to meet and talk to either Lucian or Rylan, but it was like the two had disappeared from the palace after their fight. She tried to ask the maids who had repaired their rooms, but none of them answered or acknowledged her words. They ignored her and continued to work while they discussed among each other in their language. Ave didn’t have to hear to know they were talking about her and something about their princess marrying Lucian.
The way they glared at her made her realize they believed she was the one standing in the way of their princess marrying her husband. Ave had thought she could get used to the ways of this era completely, but now she realized how she found most of their ways shameless and utterly stupid. He was her husband, and she had every right to be against his marrying another wife! Why the hell were they looking at her like the culprit?!
Lucian hadn’t even told her about the king’s proposal, which meant he also didn’t want to marry their princess, but to them, she was the one holding him back. She’d already learned from Nadia how their people believed women with red hair were good at locking men with enchantments, and they must have believed she’d locked her husband down.
Ave ate her breakfast with the twins as she couldn’t find Lucian and Rylan. As they ate, the twins couldn’t keep their curiosity about why Prince Aaron was here and why he fought with Lucian. Ave tried to find ways to change the subject, but it seemed the twins were hellbent on knowing, especially Celeste. She lied to them that it had something to do with Madeline and she didn’t know the complete details.
"Brother Caelan has taken the throne," Celeste was saying after they switched topics to the heated gossip in the palace they’d overheard when Ave was unconscious.
"When are we going to go back? Now that Brother Caelan is the Emperor, Sister Thalia would most likely be given away to any man who is interested in her for marriage, and Mother would move out of her quarters to a normal room. The longer we stay here, the more worried I get for them," Celeste said as she poked her spoon into her plate of food without eating. "I wish Brother Lucian had taken the throne..."
It would be a lie if Ave said she wasn’t worried about the princess they left behind as well. She had to act fast on a decision before tonight when she’d talk to Lucian.
Ave tried to assure the twins and promised them yet again that everything would be fine, just like she always promised, and yet nothing seemed to be improving. However, she was certain she would make everything right tonight because she had finally come to the decision of what to do.
After eating dinner yet again with the twins, Ave went back to the room she was sharing with Lucian that had been repaired, with the broken mirrors and table replaced. She had spent all of her day with the twins since she hadn’t been able to find her husband nor brother, whom she wished she could spend more time with and get to know better. She had even prepared to draw for him before, but Princess Nina’s visit to her had not only ruined her mood but also made her more restless now about what she had decided. Would Lucian get angry if she told him? Would he do it? Those were the thoughts going through her mind when she went to their room.
Ave hadn’t expected to find Lucian anywhere in the room because it was empty when she first entered, but he walked out of the bathing room wearing only his robe and wiping his hair with a towel-like fabric they used here. He didn’t notice her at first, but when he brought the towel down from his face, he looked toward her direction as if sensing her presence.
Ave felt her breath catch in her lungs at the mere sight of him at this very moment. His damp hair clung to his face in dark, wet strands, dripping onto the grey robe draped over his shoulders. His amber eyes, intense and piercing, locked onto hers beneath thick, wet lashes, sending a rush of heat through her skin, warming her up from the inside.
The robe parted at his chest, revealing firm, sculpted muscles that seemed to ripple beneath the fabric. Her gaze trailed down to his narrow waist, where the loosely tied belt barely held the garment in place. The robe ended just below his knees, leaving his powerful legs bare to her. He was utterly divine and handsome; she’d never known a man who could compete with his looks.
He wasn’t only handsome but had all the qualities of a man one would want to give everything to. Ave’s eyes trailed his body until they settled at a certain place. Heat rose to her cheeks as she noticed the obvious bulge in his robe; he was properly naked underneath that robe for her to notice his arousal this vividly.
"If you don’t stop looking at me like that, love, I might end up needing your hand again tonight," came his quiet voice that sounded almost like a low growl, the deep husky tone betraying his arousal.
"Huh, what did you say?" Ave asked as she hurriedly snapped her head away from his bulging erection and up to his sinfully handsome face. She didn’t even hear his words because she had been too distracted wondering what it would feel like to have him inside her.
Lucian had allowed her to look at him, but her admiring eyes alone were surprisingly arousing him. It was like she was touching him with her eyes and stripping him naked. The way she looked at his body with that drooling-like look made his muscles tighten instinctively, sending heat surging through him until he wanted nothing but to have her in his arms and on the bed, legs spread with him between them. Everything about her was torture to him, and though he liked that she was admiring his body, he couldn’t take it anymore and had to stop her, especially when she was looking at his little man down there.
Now that she looked at him in confusion, he decided not to repeat his words and said, "Nothing. Have you eaten?" He asked as he turned away from her before he’d end up doing something he might regret later with how she was staring at him with a flushed, beautiful face. Did every man on earth get this aroused by the little things their wives did, or was it just him? Resisting her was far harder than it seemed.
"Yes, I have," Ave replied as she watched him make his way to the stool in front of the mirror to wipe and comb his hair. She didn’t know what she was doing, but her legs took her towards him before she thought about it. She stood behind him and took the cleaning fabric from his hand to do it for him. He wordlessly released the cloth to her and sat still on the stool.
