"So... are you really serious?"

"I’ve never been more serious about anything else in my entire life."

She had calmed down but she was still not complexly fine with this whole love thing.

She could not understand why I would love her... she adored our friendship but the whole concept of love was just too much for her.

I knew that much.

"Why... why would you love someone like-."

"Who wouldn’t love someone as charming, pretty, attractive, funny, and kind? I mean, you are also a saintess now and as soon as you start dopingh the things that the saintesses do, there will be couybntless people tyhay will love you.

There actually isn’t any reason to not like you... and to me, though I had never expected this, there also isn’t any reason to not love you anymore."

Looking right into her eyes, I held her hands once again and said what had made her blush so preciously once more.

"I love you. And there’s nothing that will change it."

I’ve alredy told her how she was the only reason I was doing this whole absurd thing.

Going against that basatrd was something that I also feared, but at the end of the day, I wasn’t going to die as long as the two of them did what they had planned.

She cared about me.

’I don’t know if she loved me back, or if she had the same kind of feelings for me that I did for her, but, that did not matter.’

I loved her, and I wanted us to be together.

"I want to be with you, Cathy. I want Us... to be together."

She could deny it all she wants, it wasn’t going to change the fact that she cared about this friend that had only been with her for half her life.

We knew each other well now thanks to our experiences in this academy and with those two bastards.

We were close enough to something more than friends and she knew that well... I was the one to confess first, but hopefully, she also had some feelings for me.

At least a little... and that much would be more than enough to make her fall for me.

’We still technically have a good lot of time together anyway.’

The first year was about to end soon, but there was still the second and third one left.

Along with these two years, there were also many adventures and fun things waiting for us, and we will be looking forward to all those things while waiting for the world to become a better place than it is right now.

The calm and cool winds of winter, these dry trees, the declining life that was an indication of the life that was going to bloom in their place... the reason we loved this place more than the rest of the garden of six season perhaps had something do with the nature of life and end.

I knew she was not familiar with her feelings, she was a sheltered child so there were many things that she was oblivious to.

Even though she knew about a lot of things, the matters of the heart was not something she was familiar with since the only thing that she had received from her family all her life... was love.

She knew what love was so after learning what the love for someone other than her family was recently, I thought she would need a while before accepting her feelings.

"I... kind of like you too... perhaps."

After saying that, she was all red.

Not pink and blushing but red like a strawberry... she was sweet like a strawberry as well and I wished to eat-, ahem.

"You like me...? Not love but like? Is it the same as I like flowers or I like sweets?

Or is it something more than that. The kind of liking that-."

"Oh for goodness sake, you basatrd! I know You know what I mean!"

It must have taken a lot of courage to say those words, I can understand that well since I knew just how... cautious she was.

Words weren’t something simple for her. She cherished her words and took care of them like a mother kitten takes care of her babies.

"And you suck at everything else, hump!"

It was fun teasing her since the only thing we could do as ’friends’ was to teach one another.

I would say some things and she would get angry, and then she would shout at me, say things to me that she doesn’t say to the others, and act like a simple girl that she was.

Among us... the boundaries of our social roles did not exist.

And, if I have to give someone credit for that, then it would obviously be the two of them.

I hugged her once again.

And this time, with a lighter heart and a happier smile on my face.

"Tell me you love me."

She was surprised when I suddenly hugged her like that, but that surprise quickly changed into a feeling of relief as I heard her wildly beating heart finally calm down.

These little things about her were funny, so much so that the kind of peace they gave me was unlike anything any melody had ever given me in this short life I’ve lived.

Then she would go and get upset for calling me something like that.

She buried her face in my chest after saying that and stayed like that as her heart one again left for a roller coaster ride.

"Take your time... I’m sure the cleaning can wait."

We were given the task to clean up the academy and it was going to be a difficult task, but it shouldn’t be something that cannot be dealt with the magic and our skills so I was not worried about those things.

They will take care of themselves and, since the two of them are here as well, they should be able to deal with the situation even without us.

"Can I kiss you?"

"W-w-w-w-what? No!!! What do you mean-."

Well, her permission didn’t really matter after that confession of hers just now. But, given the circumstances that we are in, even I know going like the usual couples do was not possible.

We had to get back to the academy castle so it was going to take time anyway. And since we weren’t going to do ’things’ like Lily and Leon do in secret places like these, it was better to just talk while walking and enjoying the scenery.

She was not in the perfect state right now, but we still managed to get up from this place and somehow started moving.

’There were countless things I wanted to talk to her about but, that presence that she seemed to have missed to notice was not something I wanted to deal with.’

We wanted to be alone at the moment... if someone else wanted to be here, we had no reason to occupy this particular space anymore.
