Chapter 114: THE DEAL BEFORE THE WEDDING

She had already gotten used to seeing her face in the mirror and accepted that she was no longer River but Hazel.

And just like her dream when she was little, her resolution to take revenge started faltering.

Probably because she was a little bit emotional on her wedding day or maybe because of the pregnancy hormone, but for once, she wished to be normal.

She wished she were an ordinary girl who was going to marry the man that she loved after a few years of dating on a bright, sunny day at a beautiful resort, attended by their families and loved ones.

She started to dream again about happiness and a peaceful life.

"Stop staring at yourself with that stupid grin, or else your tiara will not fit your head."

Of course, Olivia knew how to ruin this moment for Hazel with her grating voice.

And as if the universe was not yet done annoying Hazel, not only Olivia, it sent Logan on her way too.

His loud voice echoed in the hallway even before his figure could be seen.

The door was open, and he stepped in as his eyes searched for his sister, but Olivia’s screech caught his attention first.

"Who the hell are you?! What are you doing here?!" Olivia immediately marched towards Logan; her little face was furious. "No man should be allowed to enter this room!"

Today Logan looked more presentable with a black suit that hugged his body perfectly. He also took off his piercings and put down his spiky hair after some threat from their father.

"Get out of this room. You are not allowed to be here." Olivia’s voice was very stern and firm.

Hazel appreciated the gesture.

For a while, Logan was dumbstruck to see Olivia for the first time. He stared at her like a fool until Olivia snapped him back to reality by reminding him that he must leave.

"But I am her older brother." Logan shook his head comically. He blinked his eyes and finally got his bearing. His annoyance returned when he finally saw Hazel. freeωebnovēl.c૦m

"Take it back. I am not going to do that!" Logan came closer towards Hazel, but Olivia stopped him in his tracks.

"You can’t come in. You need to get out now!" Olivia blocked Logan’s way, and once again, the man was mesmerized by the beauty right in front of him.

As crazy as it might sound, Hazel could see how Logan blushed when Olivia pushed his chest. Hazel hoped she was wrong.

"It’s okay; I have something to discuss with him." Hazel came closer and patted Olivia’s shoulder.

"What?" Olivia turned around and looked at Hazel with wide eyes as if the latter had just grown her third arm; she scrunched her nose, displeased, a gesture that Hazel was very familiar with. "No. No man should be here. That’s the basic rule."

"I don’t play by the rule."

The word Hazel said made Olivia stare at her for a while because it sounded very familiar. River used to say the same thing.

"It’s okay; you can leave."

Olivia was about to protest again, but then she found it so weird of her to even have a squabble because of this.

"Fine." Olivia shrugged her shoulder and then walked away.

The way she carried herself and walked seemed like she was on the runway instead.

"Are we going to have a conversation, or are you going to stare at the closed door until the wedding ends?" Hazel crossed her arms; she was being impatient. "I have a wedding to attend."

"Is that your friend?" Grinning, Logan pointed at the closed door. "I don’t know that you have a friend."

Ouch.

"Do you come here to start a fight with me?"

Logan shook his head. Still grinning, he asked her. "Give me her phone number."

"You are lucky. I am wearing a wedding dress, and I don’t have any intention of being tripped on my gown, or else I am going to kick your butt."

"Right!" Logan seemed to remember the main reason why he came to look for Hazel in the first place. "I am not going to walk you down the aisle."

"Fine." Hazel looked nonchalant.

Hearing that, Logan was surprised. "That’s it?" It was so easy. "If you easily agreed, why would you make a ruckus and put my life in danger?"

"Let me guess. You came here because Father threatened to cut your finances off?" Hazel knew she was right even without asking this rhetorical question.

"Whatever it is, don’t put me into a battle that I am not willing to fight."

"What a coward."

They bickered here and there before someone entered the room, and both of them stopped arguing the moment they saw his figure.

It was an hour before the ceremony, and usually this time was used by the bride to calm herself down and for her makeup and hair to get the final check before she came out and walked down the aisle towards her groom.

However, Hazel had to deal with her father’s demands.

Yet at the same time, this was something that Hazel had predicted. She actually waited for this moment.

Greyson’s eyes fell on Logan for a brief moment. "Logan, you can leave now." He then directed his attention at his daughter. "We need to talk."

Finally.

Hazel smirked triumphantly, knowing she won this.

She knew there was no way Greyson would let it slide. For him, his image in public was very important, especially because he was running an election right now.

Logan looked back and forth between Greyson and Hazel before choosing to sit this one out. He didn’t know how it would end, but he knew the gist of their conversation.

If this was Hazel in the past, Greyson wouldn’t need to go to this extent.

However, there was something completely different with this woman right now.

"You look beautiful," Greyson said once Logan had left the two of them alone. His eyes softened a bit to see his daughter in her wedding dress.

There was a trace of sadness in his gaze, yet Hazel couldn’t care less. She was collected, and everything went according to her plan.

"You look like your mother."

Despite their current situation and the reason behind this marriage, Greyson felt a little bit emotional.

It was the irony of the situation, where Hazel indeed looked like the younger version of her mother, and the sight of her in her wedding dress brought all the memories to the surface.

"Thank you," Hazel replied. She let him have this moment.

However, the emotional moment didn’t last for long, and both of them knew they needed to address the elephant in the room.

[Please, I need to see you.]

[l know that an apology alone is not enough, but please. Meet me for the last time.]

Those were only a few text messages that Marcus kept sending Olivia, begging her to fold and meet him.

Despite everything, Olivia still couldn’t bring herself to block his number and be done with him once and for all.

It was really hard for her to completely cut him off. She was upset with herself because of that. She didn’t think twice when she left her family, but even after a few broken bones and visits to the hospital, she was still looking for an excuse to stay with him.

There were a thousand ’what ifs’ in her head that kept holding her back from moving on.

Ten years was not a brief moment; it was filled with endless memories that she would carry for the rest of her life.

For ten years, Marcus was the only one she had by her side when she was disowned by her own family because of the path and the man she chose.

"Hi! I don’t know that you are Hazel’s friend."

Logan’s overly cheerful voice snapped Olivia back to reality when she stared at Marcus’s last text.

[I love you. I need you. Please, Olivia. I swear I will change.]

"She is not my friend," Olivia replied coldly. "It’s a business."

"I guessed so; she doesn’t have any friends." Logan looked indifferent to that fact. "I am Logan."

"I know, and I will appreciate it if you leave me alone." Olivia was simply not in the mood for small talk.

If she had to do that, she preferred to do it with a potential business partner.

"Fine. In that case, can I have your number?"

"No." The answer was immediate and without leaving any room for negotiation.

After saying that, Olivia walked away. She left Logan, who was still dumbstruck by her boldness.

"Fifteen percent?!"

All the sentimental feelings that Greyson felt earlier disappeared without any traces the moment he heard what the thing was that Hazel wanted in order for her to allow him to walk her down the aisle.

"You are crazy to think I will agree to that!"

Hazel wanted fifteen percent of the company’s profit, and that was a lot for her in Greyson’s eyes.

The price was too high for simply walking her down the aisle.

Currently, Greyson had fifty-five percent and Dylan had twenty-five percent, while Logan held five percent, which was his eighteenth birthday present.

The rest of the fifteen percent belonged to the other shareholders.

"You are testing my limit, Hazel." Greyson glared at her sharply. "Do you think I can’t force you to do it? I think I am being too gentle with you lately."

Hazel smirked. "I would love to see you try."
