Vampire's Blood Ascension-Chapter 28: Dr. Quad
Soft metallic clicks resounded as her four mechanical limbs moved around.
Two of them directed the control panel, and the other two kept her suspended above the floor.
Rudy studied Dr. Quad with a puzzled look and thought, ’Did she find a way to keep herself alive using technology?’
Although everything pointed towards that possibility, Rudy couldn’t believe it, as such a thing was unheard of.
Scientists across both realms were already working hard to make cyberware, transhumanism, and genetic modification possible, but had achieved no breakthroughs in any of the fields.
"How long are you going to stare at me?" Dr. Quad questioned in a monotonous voice.
Rudy came out of his thoughts and answered, confused, "I didn’t mean to stare..."
She turned her head towards him and spoke without moving her lips, "It doesn’t matter if you mean it or not."
She turned back to her holographic control panel and added, "You still did it. Be responsible for your actions."
"Calm down, will you?" Elena muttered as she snuck beside Dr. Quad.
Dr. Quad looked at her and said, "Hah... You again."
Elena grinned and crossed her left arm with Dr. Quad’s right arm. "Why are you acting so cold~ I am the only one who comes to meet you."
"Because they know I am a busy person who has a lot of shit to do," Dr. Quad responded flatly as she pulled herself free from Elena.
Elena chuckled and commented, "Stop being a tsun—"
"I apologise for my actions." But Rudy cut her off.
Both of them turned towards Rudy and saw him bowing towards Dr. Quad.
Elena’s smile deepened, and Rudy continued, "I was just shocked to see the person who had ushered humanity into the hyper-modern era."
He raised his head and continued, "I am one of the people whose inventions your inventions have graced, and seeing you in person is no different than seeing a deity."
Dr. Quad stared at him without a single change in her expression, and Rudy noted in his head, ’It’s not that she is unmoved. She cannot express anything.’
"It’s good that you know," Dr. Quad stated as white sparks flickered around her waist and a black card key with red stripes and the syndicate’s insignia appeared before her.
One of her four mechanical limbs grabbed the card key and handed it to Elena. "It’s in private chamber 06."
Elena hugged her. "Thank you, Diana!"
After a few seconds, Dr. Quad pulled herself away from her and said, "Leave. I am busy."
"Okay, okay," Elena muttered as she gestured for him to follow.
’Their relationship is much deeper than what I had initially assumed.’
Both of them walked towards the sleek metallic doors at the end of the Essence Research Wing.
Using the card key, they entered the one inscribed with 06, and their gaze fell on an eight-foot-tall black simulation pod, connected to the ground and the walls with various-sized wires, standing at the center of the private chamber.
By a strange coincidence, the simulation pod looked like a coffin with a glass top. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
’At least it has no red...’ Rudy thought upon seeing the pod that towered over him.
Elena placed her hand on the pod and asked with a grin, "Don’t you think your master is the best master there is?"
Rudy gave her a look of deep gratitude. "Yes, master is the best."
Her grin widened even further. "For the next week, you are going to do simulated battles against other irregulars."
’Irregulars?’ Rudy frowned. "Shouldn’t I battle dreadborns?"
She tapped the simulation pod. "These pods convert everything you do within the simulation to information, and then they send it to the mind and body as memory.
If you fight dreadborns, more memory would be sent, and if you did it for a week, you might fall into a memory daze, which would then force you off training for at least a week and at most a month."
"I see," he mumbled and said, "Thanks for taking care of me... master."
An amused chuckle escaped her, and she responded, "That is what a master does."
He smiled, and she said, "Get in."
He nodded, walked to the simulation suit hanging on the wall, and asked, "Can you go out for a moment?"
"Sure," she nodded and left the private chamber.
’They may have a method to surveil me within the simulation... I have to focus on my sword and body control instead of my skills.’ He put on the simulation suit and stepped inside the simulation pod.
[You have entered the simulation capsule model: 1073A]
The liquid LED lights within the pod glowed red and white smoke filled it.
[May your journey be fruitful.]
Rudy’s eyes turned heavy, and with a single thought, he fell asleep.
’Of course the lights are red...’
Rudy’s eyes snapped open, the wind brushed his long hair, and he found himself standing at the center of a grand colosseum.
"YAY!"
"GLORY!"
"FIGHT!"
The crowd yelled at the top of their lungs, and Rudy looked around with a displeased expression.
"I am not a piece of entertainment," he muttered, and a voice resounded throughout the area.
"LADIES AND GENTLEMEN! Welcome to the COLOSSEUM!"
Following the voice, a holographic screen appeared before him.
[Select your opponent type!]
[1. Speedster]
[2. Defense Master]
[3. Heavyweight]
[4. Technician]
[5. Summoner]
After thinking about it for a minute, Rudy selected defense master, and another screen followed.
[Select the type of Defense Master!]
[1. Complete defense]
[2. Defense and offense]
He obviously selected the second, and the announcer’s voice responded once again, "In Today’s battle — at the red, we have Deviant Cadet Vlad Belmont!"
The crowd followed the announcer’s lead.
"Vlad! Vlad! Vlad!"
"And at the blue, we have Deviant Enforcer Bram Malisin!"
"Bram! Bram! Bram!"
Blue static sparks appeared at the other side of the arena and transformed into Bram Malisin.
After the silence for a minute.
"Let the blood spill!" The announcer declared.
"YAHOOOO—!" The crowd roared.
