The Knight's Mysterious Maid-Chapter 341: New member (1)
Chapter 341: New member (1)
Annalise entered the room she would now call her own. At first glance, since she was never assigned to clean this room, it looked almost as spacious as Rafael’s room, but it was boring in comparison since there were no swords or armour hung up.
This room was in for a shock as it would become more exciting when she added weapons and put together a spot for her pet to roam. As much as she liked Rafael’s room, her own might change when she started to add things she liked to it.
Annalise only worried about how Beatrice would react to how she intended to change the room.
"I should let it stay how Beatrice changes it for a month and then do a big change," Annalise said, closing the door behind her.
She didn’t have her clothes yet since the carriage and cart they were using were yet to be unpacked so washing up had to wait.
"It’s boring to sit around," Annalise said, looking around the room for something to entertain herself with.
It wouldn’t be long before Edwin would have the bags sent up, but while she waited, this was a good time to have a chat with one of her friends. freewёbnoνel.com
Deciding to kill some time, Annalise turned around and walked to the door to find Cara or Heidi to bring them here.
As soon as Annalise opened her door, Rafael’s door opened revealing Cara coming out with a blanket in her hands.
"That was easy," Annalise said, happy to not have to search the manor for Cara.
Cara dropped the blanket, surprised to see Annalise standing before her and coming out of the room meant for a guest. "What are you doing here? Shouldn’t you be with your parents?" She asked, stepping over the blanket to get closer to Annalise. "Did something happen? Did they send you back?"
"Calm down," Annalise said, placing her hands on Cara’s shoulders. "There is a lot I need to tell you, but first, I need you to find Heidi and bring her to this room. You two should hear it at the same time and then I need to find Jonah. Avoid the other maids and get Heidi. You should hear what happened from me and not from their mouths."
"Annalise, you are scaring me more than normal," Cara said, feeling nervous about what Annalise needed to speak to her about. "If you are in some kind of trouble-"
"I am not. Just trust me and bring Heidi here without speaking to anyone or listening to what they say," Annalise said, backing away from Cara to return to her room.
This wonderful timing made it easy for her to speak with the two of them while not having to deal with the stares of the other maids.
"I have to work," Cara reminded Annalise. If Mavis caught her not doing her job, she would be scolded.
"Mavis won’t mind. Trust me," Annalise replied.
Cara knew Mavis would mind, but with how strangely Annalise was acting far more than usual, she needed Heidi around to help make sense of what Annalise was doing right now. "Fine," she said, picking up the blanket she needed to send to be washed and walking away to find Heidi.
Annalise poked her head out the doorway and watched Cara walk down the hallway to find Heidi. She waited for Cara to be out of sight and then closed the door. Annalise took a deep breath, preparing for the talk she was about to have.
Her talk with Beatrice had gone well so she was positive the same could happen for this.
Annalise sat down on one of the chairs in her bedroom and tapped her fingers on the arm of the chair as she waited.
Minutes later, there was a knock at the door.
Annalise stood up right away and walked to the door to open it, but when she opened it, Edwin was before her.
"You don’t look so happy to see me. I’ve brought your bags. Rafael wants you to know that your guests have been assigned rooms. I can take you to see them when you are ready and Beatrice has sent you a few dresses," Edwin said, showing the dresses he had placed over his arm. "May I come in to put them down?"
"Yes," Annalise replied, stepping to the side to let him in. With Edwin out of the way, she noticed that he wasn’t alone.
Cara and Heidi stood confused by the interaction Edwin had with Annalise.
"What is happening?’ Heidi mouthed to Annalise.
Annalise could only smile since she was going to wait for Edwin to be gone to share the news with the two. She bent down to put up the last of her bags on the floor and carried them inside.
"I was going to bring them inside for you. I shall take my leave since you wish to speak to the two outside. Breakfast will be served an hour from now. If you need anything, please send for me. Mavis is busy with the knight’s quarters and cleaning up. Excuse me," Edwin said, taking his leave to go back to help get the manor less confusing than it was now.
Cara and Heidi stayed out of the way, keeping quiet until Edwin left before they entered the room and gave Annalise a look.
"Explain," Cara said.
Heidi stared down Annalise and had an idea of what was happening because of Annalise’s smile. "You are together with Rafael, aren’t you? That’s the only reason Edwin would be bringing you bags. You didn’t go to see your parents. You went with Rafael and wanting to see your parents was a big plot to distract us, wasn’t it?" She asked, pointing a finger at Annalise.
"All of that was wrong. I did go to see my parents and I must confess that I wasn’t going to come back to the manor. Everything I told you two about my life was a lie. My parents aren’t farmers and I didn’t come here because I needed money. I was here to get information. My real home is at the border where the war is-"
"You are a barbarian?" Cara asked, taken back by this news. She took a step back to be safe. "That’s not a good joke, Annalise."
Annalise didn’t miss that Cara stepped back. She didn’t mind it since it would be a normal reaction because of how her people were described to the people here. Descriptions that fueled fear. "It is not a joke and I hate that word. I am from the border. When I said I was going home, that is where I was going and the king sent Rafael there so I saw him again," she explained.
"Rafael and all the knights know where I am from now. Beatrice knows as well. I’m not here to hurt anyone-"
"I need a moment," Cara spoke up, turning around to walk out of the room.
"I understand," Annalise replied, hoping that after some time apart Cara would return. "Do you also need a moment, Heidi?"
"No, because it sounds like there is a lot more for us to hear. If this isn’t a joke and Rafael knows as you say, he has brought you back to the manor so it must be safe for us and if I need to leave now, you might think the worst. Tell me, what is it like over there?" Heidi asked, trying to keep the conversation going so she wouldn’t freak out and join Cara in leaving to digest this.
"Aren’t you scared, Heidi? If you need time, I can wait. I won’t be upset with you needing some time to get used to this," Annalise honestly said. It would be a normal reaction. Well, a normal reaction would involve more gasps and them backing away from her, but them being in shock was what she expected.
"I’m scared out of my mind because of what I have heard about... there," Heidi ended, thinking that was the best word. "I just... I just need to sit first and then you can tell me about the border and why you are back," she said, walking by Annalise to sit down.
Annalise followed Heidi’s movement to one of the couches and watched as instead of sitting down, Heidi laid flat on a chair, facing the bed. Heidi was silent but Annalise knew there had to be a lot going through her mind. "Well, this is going well."
